I think you touched on the hardest part: You have to plan your phone and laptop purchase together. My Pixel has no display out or desktop mode I'm aware off, because Chromebooks! I assume Google is in no hurry to make a toes that steps on Chrome OS toes.
My view of Google and their products can be summed up in a quote from the movie Zoolander. “Mugatu is so hot right now he could take a crap, wrap it in tinfoil, put a couple fish hooks on it and sell it to Queen Elizabeth as earrings.”
Honestly, I’m getting really interested in this as a dock for the upcoming Steam Deck. The Steam Deck is not only a strong gaming PC, but it can also be used for… anything a PC can be used for. And we already know it’ll work with any dock that has a type-c connection. So instead of buying a standard dock, a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, I could just buy this and it would be even more convenient. This is honestly looking really nice.

Until covid ends, don't expect a bigger screen anytime soon. I'm glad my order was converted to a 360, after seeing how vastly better the screen is.
just buy a wacom bamboo tip and buy the soft nibs. just make sure increase touch senstivity is turned on. the accuracy is nlt very good though. what should be improved is the screen response time and refresh rate
This concept is so cool and truly pushes into the "one device that does Everything". Phone on the go, plug it in and get a full desktop mode to say video edit or something where you'd need the bigger display
@@GodisGracious1031Ministries But we don't see that on Android until 2017 when both Samsung and Huawei came up with DeX and Easy Projection respectively.
I do agree with you. That said though, I do have a high-end Windows laptop mainly used for PC gaming and my Adobe work. Most of the time, I use my phone.
While I've always been intrigued by the concept, the reality of pricing still makes this hard to do myself or recommend to others. The NexDock is $340 (with the relatively exorbitant shipping cost included). A nice chromebook like the Acer Chromebook Spin 513 is only $10 more at $349. For that $10 dollars, you additionally get a CPU, RAM, storage, and the other niceties that come along with a standalone laptop. Of course, you may lose out on performance for certain tasks, but the redundancy and no need for a physical tether make the chromebook a winner in my mind. Maybe what we should be pushing is for laptop manufacturers to start including video-in via USB-C. Then we can just buy a lower-spec laptop to use for basic tasks and then plug in our phones when we have some heavy lifting work that needs to be done.
The whole point of this lapdock is longevity. Since it doesn't have any CPU or GPU in it, you can use this thing for multiple devices for long. Sure that you can buy a standalone Chromebook at that price, but the overall performance will be lost in few years time.
@@farishanafiah8461 Longevity may be the goal, but it is definitely not a guarantee since only a minority of phone manufacturers/models support screen output. To make long term use of the lapdock, one would have to limit themselves to those phones having a desktop mode (very few!) when it came time to upgrade. Not sure that restriction is something I would want for myself or family/friends to whom I may offer advice.
Chromebook support length is awful. They literally write it on the wall. At least if you could install Linux (in a non-hacky way) then you could keep using it, but that doesn't undermine the awfully poor performance of the SoCs they use in them. Plus to run the display some laptops like that may require the GPU / computer to be on. Plus, it's more wasteful to make that which is worse and limited. Lets face it, basically no laptops have USB-DisplayPort input, and at that price point, they never will. You have to basically put the video input, at least some switching circuit, on the motherboard too. USB-DisplayPort is not a software feature, but connects the hardware directly to the GPU (that is why it's so cheap compared to a DisplayLink renderer)
I have been using dex with a dock, monitor, mouse and keyboard, sdr, and battery bank. The dock plugs directly in the fone and can keep it charged with the battery bank if I want to include it(not required). This looks like a possible option to replace my monitor and keyboard if I wanted to travel light. Although I'm likely to keep my mouse as I detest track pads. My only issue is that this isn't very useful if they can't deliver it on purchase.
The NexDock 360 is worth the price especially if you already own a Samsung Galaxy S20/21/22 Ultra Smartphone and want to take advantage of Samsung DeX. The ability to pass-through external devices to the smartphone, whether an external storage device or an Ethernet adaptor outs it ahead of similar products on the market. I am using mine as a notebook computer replacement for web development, decentralised application development, and smart contract development, testing, and auditing. When I ordered a NexDock 360 earlier this year it took maybe 2 weeks to arrive. It feels more premium than my premium business-class ultra-notebook. It would be nice if Samsung partnered with NexDock to enable them to maintain a consistent inventory so some people are not waiting months for delivery. I agree a Bluetooth mouse is essential; trackpads feel awkward and not as precise but that is not the fault of NexDock.
Great review ! I have no home pc and I'm running a home renovation business from my note 10+ but I would like a larger screen to work on contracts viewing pictures printing etc, I bought this phone because of dex but when I started shopping it was overwhelming all the accessories I needed to make it work as a pc. You hit the nail on the head 1 Cord plug and play baby! I'm sold Thanks for the great review.
Could not agree more! It drives me crazy Samsung has not made a lapdock. I use dex a fair amount but would use it even more if I had a first party lapdock that would maybe let me use wireless Dex.
But then again, you have to buy a Samsung phone in the first place... and I don't do that. I'm now rocking an LG V50 with its DualScreen case, so we do want to see a universal solution.
Mine should arrive on monday, exactly three weeks shy of 1 year since ordering. One benefit though is I got mine for 249. Looking forward to pairing it with my s10+ and 8GB raspberry pi to compliment my tab s5e tablet with keyboard cover. Thanks for the video, nice to see the first quality one uploaded on the 360 :)
Going to shop around a bit, but defintely going to get one of these! So cool and smart idea, this will go great with Dex! Great video btw too on the information and explanation
I was hoping you would review the NexDock and possibly compare it to the Uperfect - thanks. One of the apps I’m using a lot works WAY better on my android phone than the iOS version does on my iPad, but the app is also harder to see on the relatively small screen of my phone. I thought about buying an android tablet, but I would rather buy something to use with my android phone, and these two docks are the leading contenders. I appreciate you showing the on screen controls, I don’t think either company mentions it at all on their websites. Are the on screen controls the same between the two? Or is one better than the other? I wanted to point out that the Uperfect has a 10,000 mAh battery and dual speakers, while the NexDock has the extra port and 4 (1W) speakers, but only a 5,800 mAh battery. This info came from their respective websites, which may or may not be up to date. Picking my poison, the NexDock seems the better choice for me, being cheaper and with the extra port. And I carry a power bank around with me, so the difference in battery size wouldn’t affect me much. Again, thanks for the informative videos. I find them very helpful and informative. And entertaining. 😄
Yeah, the two seem to be VERY similar variations on the hardware. The monitor controls are practically identical. I'd be in the same boat. The extra battery is nice on the Uperfect, but I LOVE that extra accessory port.
Juan you gotta get the Samsung hate out of your heart.. 😂😂.. As its that samsung hashtag that brought me to your video. Plus samsung is perfectly built for using with this phone companion. Motorola is dead to us average guys, 8 of 10 people dont even know Motorola, LG or these other phone to computer manufacturers even exist. Viva la Samsung
Nerp. When Samsung PR stops being so punitive, when Samsung stops gouging their FANS, and when Samsung stops operating like a crime family, then maybe I'll come back around... I'm not holding my breath...
This a great phone gadget, zero system administration laptop, also great for book reading. I still not very sure if it can take hand writing notes for a great tool for meetings and students.
Oh my God... If only these miracle "laptops" are available where I live, it'll literally change the way students here do online classes. I live in a 3rd world country and with the pandemic, everyone's shifting to online classes. But the most obvious problem is access to the Internet and devices used for such learning. Your phone having the capability to turn into a literal laptop will resolve such problems. Everyone have phones but not everyone has a capable laptop This device needs to go mainstream!
I wish we could push this more aggressively. ESPECIALLY outside the USA where for so many young people, a phone might be the ONLY computer they have access to.
"Your phone having the capability to turn into a literal laptop..." That, ironically, is where nearly all smartphone makers fails to do. We only see this on selected flagship-grade smartphones from selected brands. Up to this point, the only non-flagship smartphone I see that have such a capability is the LG Velvet 5G and the LG Wing 5G. I don't even see any SD6xx midrange smartphones that can do this at all. P.S I can definitely see a major selling point of this product for schools that plays around with Raspberry Pi.
If this had at least a 2K screen, and maybe a user replaceable battery I would definitely consider buying this. Another things stopping from moving to DEX only would be software support, has anyone who just uses DEX run into any problems?
Didn't a company make a laptop shell that you can put your phone in the keyboard section? I think it was razer. I'd prefer that then having it loose on the side.
Project Linda. They made a concept, but I think it would have been a poor solution. Runs the phone hotter, and it's proprietary to ONE phone form factor. I think this kind of portable monitor solution is more practical and likely cheaper to make.
What would really be cool with this is a z flip 3 with a larger battery; dex support; and a weaker processor and no ip rating so that it becomes cheaper. pairing that up with the 360 nexdock having stylus support would be a killer
Desktop mode won't make much sense unless it will become available in entry level smartphones. High end phones offering it are simply too expensive for the solution to become popular. Most entry level smartphones have CPUs more powerful than a Raspberry Pi anyway, not to mention something like Poco X3 Pro with 8XX Snapdragon for around 200$. All we really need is for Chrome OS to become part of Android (nobody needs dozens of different desktop modes from different manufacturers) and USB-C display out will make its way to more devices.
We have to wait until Qualcomm and Mediatek give external display support for entry-level chipset. At least in Qualcomm's context, they do give external display support for midrange chipsets. That could explain why the Sony Xperia 10 Mk3 has a USB-C 3.1 port with video output capability.
Some people might think that kind of gadget is rather pointless but looking at the starting price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra with no 5G support, 8GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage for $1,100, you start to appreciate just how useful this kind of gadget is. Last year's S21 can now be bought as a used or secondhand item for as low as $500, and I still have around $200 to spare for accessories or peripherals like USB-C hubs. EDIT As for 6:43 to 7:01, I totally doubt something like the NexDock can displace laptop sales, at least for Windows. You even mentioned about palm rejection issue on Android, which is something Windows has no problem at all. I always see the NexDock and Android Desktop Mode as a disruptor for Chromebook laptop, not for Windows laptop. So I can understand why Samsung develop DeX for PC software as Windows is still the preferred desktop OS for daily productivity work.
I did use Samsung's DeX for PC software on my Windows machine and I definitely love the flexibility of using both Android and Windows at the same time without any lag. There is however one problem though: You can't get any DRM-protected apps working on it. I tried to open Netflix on DeX for PC, but it didn't show up.
@@FAT8893 Yes, DRM-protected apps like Amazon Prime Video also won't work on DeX for PC. Also, I read some comments saying that using DeX for PC on DeX-supported tablets won't work at all. I'm not sure how true is it since I don't have any Galaxy Tab model with me, so I can't comment any further.
I just got one a few weeks ago but my use case is slightly different I use it with my surface for a second display and hmi input makes life so much easier when away from the office also works well with a fire stick
We did that for Marie for MONTHS at the beginning of the pandemic when we didn't know how long her work from home would be. It's such an incredibly useful tool. I'll never understand the techies that can't figure out how helpful it is to have an additional display at the ready.
I work on the road and have been using a Samsung tab with my Note 9 which i just upgraded and now I have the nexdock 360 in wireless I don't need to use all my data with the Hotspot and it works great! Also able to maximize my s23 ultra's power through Dex. Thank you for this review.
i know this is an old video, but the Nexdock 360 is my go-to device for a datacenter crash cart replacement. I can easily plug into a server and have a ready to use console without dealing with dragging around a real crash cart or a laptop with $400+ crash cart adapter. They could sell 10x as many as they do today if they marketed it to IT professionals in this way.
I've had to use a capture card and monitor software on my PC to imitate this. And it sucks big time. I need one so I can more easily play with my raspberry pis and other sbcs!
Great video! I sold my first gen nexdock few years ago but with touch/360 plus things like geforce now on phones I'm in the market again! Although usually uperfect sell the x 14 for 390 AUD on Australian ebay which is fair bit cheaper then nexdock
The big selling point for me, and the reason I bought one, is because my phone has unlimited mobile data. My laptop does not. At my job, I don't have free wifi, nor am I allowed to use my work computer for personal use, which means I have to check my emails and manage my personal affairs on my phone with a touchscreen display, and I hate that.
I have the same Nexdock for some reason I can't transfer the sound coming from my phone to the Nexdock. Nor do the volume buttons seem to work but everything else works. Ugh what am I doing wrong?
I love this conversation. I am thinking of getting this setup to carry instead of my CAD work laptop when I am traveling, when I know I won’t be playing with 3D models. But I am not sure if Anything is better than or equivalent to Samsung dex. What has your experience been like with Motorola’s desktop mode?
@@nickthaskater I use solidworks for work on their own VPN (can’t use anything else), But I rarely use solidworks while traveling. So a nex dock and a desktop mode compatible phone would be ideal for notes, meetings, general document editing and other day to day tasks
I kept it really simple and easy. I use a 13" Wimaxit monitor. I adheared a 20,000mah battery to the back of the monitor case, so I don't have to carry it separately. I have two 6" cables. One to put into the battery and one to put into my phone. I keep them both plugged into my monitor all the time. I use my GN20U as a keyboard and trackpad. I paid the same amount that I would have if I was getting the Nexdock, but I got it the SAME week I ordered it. So I am using it right now, instead of waiting for it. Also, if something goes wrong with one component, I just replace IT instead of replacing the whole thing. It's nice to have choices. 🙂
I can understand your point there. But from my personal experience, using the phone as the keyboard and trackpad never go well. Also, carrying that whole setup around can be a bit of a struggle. That is probably why this lapdock idea is still usable.
Just wish they made a 1440p/1600p version. That would be perfect. Edit: One more cool thing that not many people consider with these devices is that truly unthrottled mobile data plans are now a thing, whereas hotspot and tablet plans still get throttled. If you're very mobile and need reliable internet, that's pretty sweet. Definitely better than paying extra for a tablet plan and getting throttled, or using the phone's hotspot data for a normal laptop and still getting throttled. Couple it with a stronger PC at home that you can remote into with Parsec or Moonlight, and you have the perfect "Do it all" machine.
Yup, definitely agree about mobile data and hotspot data throttling practices. You don't have to worry about throttling if the mobile data isn't being throttled.
I've had a Galaxy s20 fe for about a month now. And I've always been interested in Dex. Now, I just came across those lapdocks and man are they compelling. I am so glad that you brought the Chromebook counter argument that the specs of a 3 year old Chromebook will become obsolete whereas the dock will last for many generations, or at least different phones. One thing I'd like to point out is the increased sense of security those docks could bring. Imagine a group of students working in a room, and one of them calls out to go get some food. The group leaves the room and their laptops there with a chance of being stolen. Well, the person using a lapdock can just bring its phone and not lose as much as the others. Who's laughing now!
It's not just Chromebook, it's also about buying an actual laptop for the same price as the NexDock. I used to own a $400 actual laptop and it's terrible. I will never buy any actual laptop, be it Windows or Chromebook, under $500.
@Kenneth Larson I so agree with you. It really feels like a total joke to see popular sponsored sellouts that only care about top brands gets way more publicity than properly intellectual real indies instead.
@@WyattLite-n-inn it is the same as most trackpads so I use a Bluetooth mouse most of the time. That said, the built-in trackpad is not terrible compared to others.
8:35 The NexDock 360 is now $349 including shipping cost. But even at that price, the laptops I can find at Best Buy only has 4GB RAM, 64/128 GB eMMC storage, and Intel Celeron CPU. Some refurbished laptops with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD runs on much older 5th/6th gen Intel Core CPU. Even when looking at Chromebooks, things aren't much different. The only most sensible $349 laptop I can find on Best Buy is the Samsung Galaxy Book Go with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 SoC and Windows 11 ARM, but even that only has 4GB RAM and 128GB eMMC storage. I have my four-year-old Huawei Mate 20 that I bought secondhand for $140 and can easily decimate all those $349 Windows and Chromebook laptop.
Now in January 2023, the wired NexDock 360 cost $299. I can't see a combination of a separate monitor, keyboard, mouse, USB hub, and battery power for such price. Also, there's no point going for $300 Windows or Chromebook laptop when they all have crappy CPUs.
I actually got rid of my Galaxy Tab S7 pro, because I felt it was redundant with my Fold 3. As long as this is lighter than that with a Bluetooth keyboard I'm game. Except it doesn't look like the keyboard is back lit
Received mine a couple weeks ago. didn't mind the wait because... coronavirus... I aint going anywhere. But I figured it'd be nice to have one for when we can travel again.
Just pre-ordered my Nexdock 360 for use with my Raspberry pi 4 since I didn't know about these things until AFTER I bought my smartphone that DOESN'T support the ability to connect to this thing. Yea,"ouch!" and "ugh!" groans all around. Great video!
I became interested in the 360, because I wanted a computer as fast as my phone. I have an old desktop in my office that takes 5 min to boot up and I've wanted to replace it, but I thought why not connect my phone to a monitor rather than spend the money on a really expensive computer. This is perfect, love it!
Well, the good thing is that Linux phones are making inroads. So things like this could take advantage of the flexibility of having phones that run as a mobile phone os and a full fledge desktop environment.
When you both run the phone hard and charge it, maybe you could pull it out of the case and set it on top of one of those freeze blocks for lunch boxes and what not.
If they do, hopefully TCL and Moto keep the fire burning long enough for Androids desktop mode to get better. As it stands now, I use these lapdocks the most with LG screen+.
Juan really gets it.. I'm just thinking about Windows 3.1 and the way it used to be. Sooner or later (in fact right now) these devices are going to become so powerful that in terms of compute performance, they will be able to accomplish most tasks for most people. And when that happens the only bottleneck will be application support.. Software. In many ways its really the evolution of personal computing. Where a single device is not only small enough to be found literally on your person so to speak, but is also powerful enough and flexible enough to be used in multiple contexts.. Given the right kind of software, it could fundementally shift the way we think about and use computers. Its potentially VERY disruptive..
While this kind of lapdock makes great sense for home PC and consoles, I'm still waiting for a universal laptop shell with ASUS Padfone-like docking solution and also a detachable screen. That would make a perfect sense for smartphone as a tablet PC.
That would be epic! Imagine a Surface Book-style lapdock with built-in kickstand and a little slot for smartphone connection with built-in USB-C port. That would be the ultimate lapdock ever! ASUS definitely had got the whole idea right along. Shame that smartphone power at that time wasn't powerful enough to harness all the pocket desktop capability.
Hi there! Great video! Really wanting more detail on the specs. When it rotates does the keyboard lock functionality? What are all the ports it has? Does this have any type of camera? I think the camera would be the biggest deal breaker for me in a virtual society.
It works with mine, but it's really finnicky about what cable it likes. It won't hook up over the included USBC cable, but likes my belkin thunderbolt cable. USBC is weird.
Relax, Apple will probably do something like this, name it something dumb like Macbook Pure Air, charge $800 for it, and it'll be a struck of innovation genius... To their credit it'll probably be a more refined experience, the benefit of controling their entire pipeline...
Total newb here so I apologize for the question, but would I be able to attach my S21 Ultra to the Nexdock, turning it into a serviceable notebook for me, but also simultaneously share my screen with a large classroom monitor? I've used the original DeX dock and a BT keyboard in the past (my Surface Pro crapped out on me and was being repaired) and successfully connected DeX to these overhead monitors where I teach, but it was frustrating; whenever I needed to look at the screen, I would have to turn my back on my class. Thanks!
It wouldn't be as convenient, but I suppose you could run an HDMi out from the phone into an HDMI splitter? That could work. You'd also need to run an additional USB cable for the nexdock's touchpad and keyboard.
I doubt yo will even see this but I was wondering if you could give some insight based off your experience. I currently have the Nexdock touch I bought years ago based off your review. (actually using it with Ready For right now on my Motorola G100 in my hotel room to type this!) I was curious if the Nexdock 360 is a decent upgrade over the older touch? You mentioned lighter weight so that is a plus for me on these motorcycle trips. Is the screen any brighter on the 360? Is there really any other reason to upgrade besides the new 360 hinge? I figure I can sell my current touch for a decent price to make up some of the cost since its in great shape still. Thanks for making these reviews. I love being able to use my phone as a laptop when I travel and I wouldnt have known about this if it werent for your channel.
I do like the 360 better than the touch. I don't have the touch anymore to compare, so I honestly cant say how the brightness compares. The form factor is just more versatile. You do need to carry extra dongles or adapters though, since the 360 doesn't have room for USBA or full sized HDMI. If you're looking for sleeker though, it's worth the trade off IMO.
@@SomeGadgetGuy Thanks for the quick reply! I didn't think about the dongles. I do normally use a wireless mouse that uses USB-A but that's not a huge deal. The HDMI port only gets used at home when I'm using it as a portable monitor when building PC's so no worries there either. I think I'll give it a try. Thanks again!

That is the problem. For home PCs, there is still a good use of the NexDock. But for phones, very few has video output support in the first place despite some having a powerful USB-C 3.1 port like the Pixel.

@@dinoypeter Refresh rate is the least of its worries since it all depends on Android app behaviour.
This concept is so cool and truly pushes into the "one device that does Everything". Phone on the go, plug it in and get a full desktop mode to say video edit or something where you'd need the bigger display
Drives me crazy when techies downplay these kinds of accessories.
@@SomeGadgetGuy exactly this is the literal definition of being techy finding new and interesting ways to use our tech 😂
@@GodisGracious1031Ministries But we don't see that on Android until 2017 when both Samsung and Huawei came up with DeX and Easy Projection respectively.
I wish this happened a few days ago... I was more comfortable buying a flagship and one of this than a medium phone and a mid lap
@@farishanafiah8461 If longevity is the goal then a built in battery is a bad idea because even if you take care of it it would die after like 4 years
Chromebook support length is awful.
Exactly the use case you might be interested in 👍
So it does exist, I was tempted to get one earlier in the year, but kept seeing the dates pushed back.
It's the "charm" of buying one. My first was eight months late?
@@SomeGadgetGuy But they are tempting, especially since both my V60 and S21+ support it.
With a NexDock and a Dex capable phone, using an unlimited phone plan, you have no need for Wi-Fi.
NEVER use any public networks if you can help it 👍
Could not agree more! It drives me crazy Samsung has not made a lapdock. I use dex a fair amount but would use it even more if I had a first party lapdock that would maybe let me use wireless Dex.
Drives me crazy. Dex would evolve so much faster as a standalone option.
Woot woot! My first was super late too. It's the "charm" of the brand.
@@SomeGadgetGuy agreed, at least nexdock always deliver in the end. Unlike other failed lapdock projects (sentio superbook etc)
Going to shop around a bit, but defintely going to get one of these! So cool and smart idea, this will go great with Dex! Great video btw too on the information and explanation
Asus was way ahead of time with the padfone ... Back when phones were rather underpowered
A reboot of that idea + heatsink for the secure phone cubby would be amazing
Same with the Atrix.
Ikr. That little slot behind the screen is slick af. I definitely hope to see a modern day universal solution of that idea.
Now if we could only get manufactures to do power through on phones like Asus and Sony
HS Power Control should be mandatory on all phones.
@@SomeGadgetGuy that would literally make this a viable laptop replacement for the majority of users.

I love the review, thanks for it!! Subscribed.
Is it possible to turn off the mouse
Yes it is! It's possible to turn off the trackpad and just use a wired or wireless mouse with it.
Everyone have phones but not everyone has a capable laptop
This device needs to go mainstream!
I wish we could push this more aggressively. ESPECIALLY outside the USA where for so many young people, a phone might be the ONLY computer they have access to.
"Your phone having the capability to turn into a literal laptop..."
That, ironically, is where nearly all smartphone makers fails to do.
"I surmize that it will not" needs to be memed...
My laptop is 9 years old, my smartphone is 3 years old. Both will need to be replaced soon... 🤔🤔
That depends on your workflow, really. Maybe you use Android apps more than Windows softwares for everything that you do.
If this had at least a 2K screen, and maybe a user replaceable battery I would definitely consider buying this. Another things stopping from moving to DEX only would be software support, has anyone who just uses DEX run into any problems?
2K and a larger 15.6" screen would be slick. Replaceable battery would be rather optimistic though if they keep that slim design.
@@farishanafiah8461 I know, a user replaceable battery would be hard to get. But a 15.6 inch convertible would be great, especially with pen support.
I have a second gen nexdock and love it. Its also held up really good. I love it.
Same. I still have that metal body NexDock. It's one of the best built accessories I've ever bought.
Using my nexdock360 for lots of typing, I just disable track pad and use the touch screen if needed
Nice tip! Yeah it's funny, but even on a phone without a desktop mode, typing on a real keyboard is so nice...
Where do I get it for $300? On their website it's going for $370
Previously, it cost $300 but without the shipping cost since that depends on where you live. It seems that Nex has now standardized the shipping cost.
NGL I love the "I surmise that it will not!"
😁
whats the usb hub at 3:03?
I also have that pixel USB A to C adaptor you plugged into your laptop. Totally a lifesaver
What would really be cool with this is a z flip 3 with a larger battery; dex support; and a weaker processor and no ip rating so that it becomes cheaper. pairing that up with the 360 nexdock having stylus support would be a killer
I'm kinda bummed Samsung didn't opt for the 870.
It worked great on the LG Velvet. Shame techies panned that phone.
EDIT
As for 6:43 to 7:01, I totally doubt something like the NexDock can displace laptop sales, at least for Windows.
Yup!
That's nice for online classes, great review as always.👍

i know this is an old video, but the Nexdock 360 is my go-to device for a datacenter crash cart replacement.
No joke. This is SO much easier.
I do also use capture card to capture gameplays, but monitor softwares can really be a faff to use.
Just pre-ordered mine a couple days ago, I hope it won't be a whole year 😭
Made me want to play Megaman X.
Looks like a great piece of kit. The Windows 10 Mobile Continuum dock hit me in the feels.
There's never a wrong time to revisit MegaMan.
I have the same Nexdock for some reason I can't transfer the sound coming from my phone to the Nexdock. Nor do the volume buttons seem to work but everything else works. Ugh what am I doing wrong?
I'm looking to use this with a Network Attached Storage PC instead of connecting to my tv with a USB extension cable for keyboard and mouse.
Will be using my phone with this in the meantime until the Steam Deck releases. Yes, the Deck will be a little more bulky, but will be fine.
REALLY excited for Steam Deck, and when it gets here, I'll have a NexDock ready to game with it 😄
I love this conversation. I am thinking of getting this setup to carry instead of my CAD work laptop when I am traveling, when I know I won’t be playing with 3D models. But I am not sure if Anything is better than or equivalent to Samsung dex. What has your experience been like with Motorola’s desktop mode?
@@nickthaskater I use solidworks for work on their own VPN (can’t use anything else),
But I rarely use solidworks while traveling.
Do pixels have desktop mode?
No, it doesn't.
I adore my Nexdock! paired with DeX and a mouse. Great commentary on durability across time.
Dex is such a monster feature for Samsung. I really hope they continue to push it. Makes me nervous seeing phones like the Z Flip exclude it...

The point most people ALWAYS forget.

Wait a minute, Samsung could make a portable rechargeable touchscreen with a keyboard and touchpad built in...
Hmm
Anyone could. Almost no one will.
I actually got rid of my Galaxy Tab S7 pro, because I felt it was redundant with my Fold 3. As long as this is lighter than that with a Bluetooth keyboard I'm game. Except it doesn't look like the keyboard is back lit
The nexdock 360 does have a backlit keyboard, tho only single stage on/off. I use mine semi regularly when typing in the dark

It's just so handy to have at the ready. Congrats on snagging one 👍
Just pre-ordered my Nexdock 360 for use with my Raspberry pi 4 since I didn't know about these things until AFTER I bought my smartphone that DOESN'T support the ability to connect to this thing. Yea,"ouch!" and "ugh!" groans all around. Great video!
A lot of why I want this is watching movies. I wish they would include MacBook level speakers
Ugh no joke. The speakers are pretty weak.
Damn I hope we get real traction there.
@@SomeGadgetGuy agreed. Fantastic video by the way.
Why not also make it wireless. For more efficient use .some of Samsung phones have a wireless dex mode

For something without computer, fan and heatsink, they could go thinner!
But the battery capacity will be thinner as well, and I don't think that is a good idea.
need good speakers to this?
When you both run the phone hard and charge it, maybe you could pull it out of the case and set it on top of one of those freeze blocks for lunch boxes and what not.
Only if you have a phone with chipset that can overheat under intensive use.
You better hope Samsung dosnt cancel DEX
If they do, hopefully TCL and Moto keep the fire burning long enough for Androids desktop mode to get better. As it stands now, I use these lapdocks the most with LG screen+.
Thanks for posting this video, I was wondering if you can connect a wired mouse to it.
Yup. So long as the host device supports a mouse.
A physical switch or button would fix the track pad issue.
Oh for sure. That would be an easy solution.
If they combined the nexdock tablet touchscreen with their keyboard situation it would the ultimate assist
Just received mine 2 weeks ago.worst speakers and weighty
But then again, speaker has never been lapdock's specialty.
Do you have a promo code?
Pre-ordered mine in July. Probably a 2022 delivery date...
🤞
That must have a wifi connection so we can connect our phone with this machine without wire....
I wouldn't do that since wireless connection always have lag.
Shout out to The Maxx.
5:36 thats what she said haha but what was the thing you had in your hand at 7:15? Thanks in Advance
The one at 7:15 is Microsoft Display Dock, an accessory mainly used for Lumia 950 and 950 XL.
Hi there! Great video! Really wanting more detail on the specs. When it rotates does the keyboard lock functionality? What are all the ports it has? Does this have any type of camera?
I think the camera would be the biggest deal breaker for me in a virtual society.
Would that work with TMobile version of velvet ?
It works with mine, but it's really finnicky about what cable it likes. It won't hook up over the included USBC cable, but likes my belkin thunderbolt cable. USBC is weird.
Relax, Apple will probably do something like this, name it something dumb like Macbook Pure Air, charge $800 for it, and it'll be a struck of innovation genius...
To their credit it'll probably be a more refined experience, the benefit of controling their entire pipeline...
Whoa Apple did it again! They INVENTED desktop modes! 🤯
Whereas Android and Windows Phone people have been using this kind of feature for ages.
The design is beautiful. Like a touchscreen mac

I used samsung Dex since pendemic. All i hoping for is full fledged desktop apps microsoft office on android. Currently i can do work but advance things like polygon shape / edit shape / merge shape cant be done.
Same. Even just better support for multiple docs open at the same time would be handy.

I have regular nexdock touch... Been under bed for months now. If you don't have a phone with desktop mode it's not very useful. Wish google would create default one. May use it again if I can find my pi
That's a shame. Seeing those folks who still have issues with pre-orders, if you're not using it, you should sell it.
That is the problem. For home PCs, there is still a good use of the NexDock. But for phones, very few has video output support in the first place despite some having a powerful USB-C 3.1 port like the Pixel.
