Interestingly, in French a tassel is a « gland » which means acorn. In ancient civilisations the acorn was a symbol of life, as in the cycle of renewal of life (an acorn in the ground becomes a new tree). So tassels = life , I don’t make the rules
I WAS going to disagree about the pompoms = tassels statement the author claimed. But with deeper consideration, pompoms basically come in 2 types: the Poof type and Droopy/flowing type. The latter does in fact resemble a tassel. The author is right. She’s a pro.
I legitimately want this book now. Have you heard of the string skirts? Some of the earliest fiber clothing we have from Europe. They were essentially skirts of tassels. It's theorized they were worn to attract the attention of the opposite sex.

If the shoe’s tassel’s bottom is bound, wrapped or in any way closed, it is imperative to cut through the material to allow the tassel tendrils to flower freely. An open tassel end, curled in response to its exposure to the natural elements, is a thing of beauty with a majesty and personality all its own. At least in my Tao since early childhood.
