What do we followers love about the old seadog vlogs? Answer must be. First of all honesty. Filming a journey and a personal life experience on the in and outside. Barry is just a great person the kind of human that get friends all over the world. Greatings from norway.
Barry is a Great Story Teller, whether he is talking about the food he has cooked or the Dangers of bad Weather he makes it interesting, as far as his old videos that he thinks nobody has watched, Barry does a great voice impersonation of Sean Connery, then there is is love of Playing The Blues, which seems to make him instant friends no matter what Port he may be anchored..He makes his world - Our world.
In this vein, you should also check out the Sailing Brothers. Two down to earth brothers who are sailing the world on their Rival 34. No sponsors, totally real and a great adventure they also are having, just like Barry.
Great to see and hear Barry in a first person mode rather than self narrative. We are so appreciative that you got off of the couch AND brought us with you!
Thank you sir for a great interview. You are an inspiration to me, and I am you senior fan! ( Or one of them) I'll be 92 in a few months,I still drive and am very active working with various needy groups such as the food Bank and the homeless here in the States. Thank You again for sharing your life and adventures with us. You are a blessing to me.
This is one of your best videos because the questions were nearly all I would have asked. Thank you for the answers. May the wind always be from your behind - filling your sails.
Great interview! I've watched Barry since not long after he bought Shady - always a great watch, a true down-to-earth salty, sailing oceans in all weather, doing what other channels promise, but seldom deliver. 👍
My dear Barry. You are my hero. When Martin asked you how do you feel being alone in the open ocean, I can't forget the moment when you got your eyes on tears seeing the french coast guard jet flying over your head. Keep going as long as you can and we will follow you.
Truly enjoy your sense of humor! That bit with the helicopter. And YES, I would enjoy reading a book about your adventure. I bet it would give us a better insight into the journey. I am sure it's hard to really get the point across in a 30 min snip every two weeks.
A great interview Barry. What I enjoy about your channel is that an older gentleman myself is watching you take off an go half way around the world and hopefully all the way in the next 12-24 months. Thanks for sharing!
Well! Barry got the good tweeds out for an interview with Martin WOW. Now that was awesome Barry, loved every minute of the interview, Top journalist interviews Top Reality Vbloger How cools that Cheers
I don't believe this channel has so few subscribers (relatively speaking of course). Barry you are such a real and transparent person. Watching your videos is a highlight of my day when a new one comes out. I started watching you in the middle of your Pacific crossing. The scene when the jet went over definitely caused runny eyes from me, and hooked me into your channel for good. Keep up the great work. Please don't start writing your book until you have finished sailing. From personal experience, writing a book will suck the life out of you very quickly.
An old Sea dog should always sit to talk. The legend grows. Also enjoyed seeing Martin Tasker at work. Was struck by the Yorkshire angle. So many great seafarers came from the North of England - including one very relevant to NZ. And yet if Barry was an onion he has barely been peeled ! More of the life story of this remarkable individual please.
This was a great interview! Barry I love your story you are an inspiration to all of us. Thank you for sharing your life and continued adventures, I will be following you in spirit and through your circumnavigation. Enjoy life and stay well!
Thank you for this awesome interview, keep the vids coming.Sailing around the world with you through your videos. Thanks for letting us all come along,Fair Winds my friend…..
The theme of "kicking the door down" reminded me of the Kristofferson tune: "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose". So glad you made your way to Plymouth and then on to the rest of the world!
So glad you did this interview Barry. You are correct saying to just kick down the door. Not to wait but do something. Best wishes to you and respect sent. 👏⛵️🏝
thankyou for letting me follow and see your warts and all interview. barry, your doing what so many of us so wish we could. Im just jealous. well done to you, hopefully get to shake your hand when you do eventually return to blighty. fair winds
Man, you’re such a legend for doing all of this. Keep crushing it. Like you say, I’ve gotta just get to it. No dilly dallying around. Don’t want to end up worm food before I sail the boat to far off places. Thanks for keeping this dream alive
Thank you Barry. I´m sailing towards you for two month now. Started from Hamburg, Germany. Never sailed before, but doing quite well so far. My goal is la reunion. Hope to see you there🙂Stay safe and enjoy. AND Happy new year.
I was born in New Plymouth N.Z now retired in Vung Tau Vietnam have watched all your videos from day 1 cheers and all the best and safe sailing for 2023
Hi Barry! Happy festivus and all that! The movie was "On The Beach" with Greg Peck, Ava Gardner and Anthony Perkins... 1959. Great flick. Ahead of its time... BTW Australia, not NZ but close enough! Take care and enjoy the trip.
Barry my friend it's us men that need guys like you to lead us with tears because not doing so is literally killing us. Thanks. You're my great pleasure during the winter when my boat is on the hard.
I just checked what for me was one of the more frightening situations Barry was in. In episode 3 he was marooned in a storm on an unfamiliar boat without water or food in Portugal. For everything that followed he was better prepared. I wish you all the best for the second half.
You Mentioned On FB That You Weren't Sure If You Should Post This. But We Are All Better People For Having Experienced It. Thanks Barry. Wonderful Episode.
now thats a great video . reality is where my joy lays , I am and older Newfie lad myself with saltwater in my veins and this is my go to time ,i watch many sailing channels but always look foreward to The Old Seadog escapades with a smile in my heart , fair winds and following seas my friend .
You can see that little glint in your eye toward the end when Martin asked you the ultimate question. Well done, half way there, wishing you fair winds on the rest of your adventure. ⛵️💨
It's time to kick the door down to a new view!! Barry your what got me back into sailing.. An I am forever grateful for this.. As a aged fine claret me... With age an wisdom come time for change an dang it .... Grateful for this episode Barry thanks for this it really had me crying an laughing... Mostly listening an thinking.. I adore you me Old Sea Dog!!! ✌🏼💗😊
THANKS Barry This was another interesting look at your life for us, and it is appreciated . I always think of you and that Lear Jet fly your good friend sent out for you, Thats a true friend to watch out for you. Thanks again all the best
Great interview with mr Tasker Barry. Always love your original content. Its a bit stressful watching some of the bad weather episodes in the middle of nowhere, but then I remember, you must have survived it otherwise there would be no video of the event. Wish you well Always. Alan
Thanks Barry and Martin, that was excellent. I enjoyed getting to know you more Barry. I know you prefer not to go there but it would be really good to hear you talk your earlier life more; mixed in with the sailing, as Christian Williams does. I am 63, with an ocean going boat that I have been restoring for two years, she wants to go adventuring; the wife has given me a visa, I’m waiting until my kids have left for college, to avoid disrupting their lives. I cycled around the world in my 30s so the oceans await in my 60s.
Thanks for this segment, which was shared openly and without prejudice. Most appreciated and enjoyed. Seasons Greetings, and wish all is great for Ole SEADOG 2023..Cheers.👍
That was the sweetest thing, always liked Martin Tasker, great interview, my grandmother was a Tasker and Martin reminnds me of my dad. Fair winds Seadog and the best of British, hope to see you back in NZ some day.
I’m rarely inspired by videos on UA-cam. However this was such a breath of fresh air. Such a pragmatic and real world approach. I loved the advice. As an older viewer I really appreciated this video.
Barry,it was a realy nice interview, you are the one who give inspiration ,your Chanel it s the real life on boat.and i like it.hope Everyting gone good for the rest of your world tour.thank.s
Been following you Barry for a few years now and I would agree - sailing around the world single handed, especially at our age, is quite the accomplishment, and no doubt, you will do it. I sail, but my goal is to enjoy every single day on land and sea. Simple. You are doing the same, but have expanded your territory :) Gambatte!
That was a good piece that Martin did for you, Barry..!!!✅ BTW, The French always like to Fly their Own Jet’s 🛩 seeing as they DO Actually make their Own. That search & Rescue jet on your 71 day trip is a FALCON 20, imo, much better than the Learjet brand, although some would argue..!!! 😎
Hello Barry, thanks you to share with us this amazing adventure. It's the best channel about sailing. I don't really know how to describe it in a proper way because of my poor english (I'm french), but I hope you're Ok right now, and I'm longing to see what's next! Yeah Baby!
Beautiful! I was lucky to sail a 36 ft Van De Stadt back in 1974 with my pa. We sailed from Bequia to NYC. Every 10 year olds dream! Sail on man, sail on!
Well, Mr Perrins, you scrubbed up well for that interview. But then, you did say in the last episode that you must get a haircut.😁 I thoroughly enjoyed watching the interview and can’t wait for your next screening. Well done old son. Kind Regards, Barnacle Bern SY Cadbri SW Wales. 😎👍👍👍 Happy New Year, BTW. 🎤😮🎼
That was such a good watch Barry...always loved Martins easy way with people and his sailing knowledge second to none. Great to hear it from the heart as you always tell it.
Love this channel because it's down to earth and simple. I'm probably never going to own a catamaran, but a monohull? Maybe! You make sailing seem achievable for average everyday people :)
Aloha Barry! Trust and Hope that you are keeping well this Holiday season. As always another Great video and then the interview, a huge bonus! Thanks loads for sharing. But, what about "The Beer"? No mention of The Anchor Beer. Some of my favourite parts of your videos is when you are far off... and then after a long day, or night, cracking open the can and then doing a monumental Seadog 12oz curl. Priceless! Oh well! Cheers to you! A dream of mine is to someday hear some of your music live and then buy you a pint. All the best going forward in 2023.
Very interesting to hear more of your story after watching you for years. Always wondered what you did before and how you were able to afford the boat, etc.
What makes "our Oldseadog" so likeable? He is modest, absolutely authentic, honest and he has the good old humor that I only know from Peter Ustinov. And what is also important for me, he never produces a simple show. That is probably his "recipe for success" and makes him so popular. I am also over 70 years old and he is a bit of my role model. For that, I love him and appreciate his life trip.

Warts and all, that's why I love this channel (same for Sailing into Freedom). No glitz, no glam, no big sponsors. Thank you, Barry!
In this vein, you should also check out the Sailing Brothers. Two down to earth brothers who are sailing the world on their Rival 34. No sponsors, totally real and a great adventure they also are having, just like Barry.
Wonderful - "Sailing around the world single handed - that's the one." Well said.
Great to see and hear Barry in a first person mode rather than self narrative. We are so appreciative that you got off of the couch AND brought us with you!

Well done Robert, contributing to others keeps one happy and strong.
This is one of your best videos because the questions were nearly all I would have asked. Thank you for the answers. May the wind always be from your behind - filling your sails.
Want to rephrase that?
@Tony, wind is 👍 good, waves that poop you 👎 BAD!
and preferably not your fundamental orifice.....🤣
Martin Tasker has interviewed a large number of sailing greats...and here's another one to add to his list! Nice one Barry.
Great interview! I've watched Barry since not long after he bought Shady - always a great watch, a true down-to-earth salty, sailing oceans in all weather, doing what other channels promise, but seldom deliver. 👍
You scrubbed up well for this interview Barry. Great work, really enjoying it!
i noticed that too and the boat :-))
Love you sea dog . You the man . Happy new life.
Very nice I enjoy following the old seadog, and his humble take on life as it goes and flows.
My dear Barry. You are my hero. When Martin asked you how do you feel being alone in the open ocean, I can't forget the moment when you got your eyes on tears seeing the french coast guard jet flying over your head. Keep going as long as you can and we will follow you.
And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
Voice of peace,
Thank you both for a lovely, inspiring chat. Thank you.
Truly enjoy your sense of humor! That bit with the helicopter. And YES, I would enjoy reading a book about your adventure. I bet it would give us a better insight into the journey. I am sure it's hard to really get the point across in a 30 min snip every two weeks.

What an amazing man. We love you, Barry, for your never-say-die attitude. Smooth seas, Shaddie, and may the wind be at your back.
I even got the shivers watching the jet fly over again as I think we all did the first time. Safe travels Barry.
Yes! We all i hope felt that! We are humans after all!
Loved the interview. Great to get to know you better. I’m a 71 year old sailor. You inspire me!!

The film with the submarine was "On The Beach" from the book of the same title by Nevil Shute. A good read.
Barry, I feel for you, being an expat kid myself. 8 country's and 32 different schools. I alas bought the couch. keep safe and live your dream.
Barry,it was a realy nice interview, you are the one who give inspiration ,your Chanel it s the real life on boat.and i like it.hope Everyting gone good for the rest of your world tour.thank.s
The movie you were talking about when the northern hemisphere sub landed in Australia (not, I believe, in NZ) was “On the Beach” !!
Great interview. Many reflections to what I am doing now. If we had followed our thoughts prior. Nothing better than the present.
That was amazing Barry. Thank you for sharing this.
