- LBC callers react to Suella Braverman's controversial speech to the National Conservatism movement in which she decried government department's displaying the LGBTQ+ Progress flag.
"Far, far too many Tory politicians agree, and still agree, that the Progress flag must be flown to be kind, to be inclusive," the former Home Secretary told the National Conservatism conference in Washington DC.
"The Progress flag says to me, it says to me one monstrous thing: That I was a member of a government that presided over the mutilation of children in our hospitals and from our schools."

Look at the history of the Tories (from the old middle Irish word, 'tóraidhe' meaning 'outlaw' or 'robber') and you will see that their core belief is that wealth and power should be concentrated in the hands of a few, at the expense of every other citizen of the UK. That is their foundational principle. And, as Nye Bevan said, they will never change. I'm in my mid 70s and remember all the damage that they have done in all the administrations I can remember. The only difference with the current iteration of the party is that they have let the mask slip and have revealed themselves for what they really are.

Hear me out, I don't know if Braverman is a bigot, I think she's just so completely without morals and convictions that she'll say whatever she thinks will benefit her no matter how utterly reprehensible it is, who it hurts, or the damage it does. How can that first caller say Braverman did nothing about immigration when she was in office? She did loads! She made the asylum backlog five times longer, gave a cash fortune to a country with an atrocious human rights record for doing NOTHING, got fired for breaking the law, gained the enmity and distrust of the secret services, created Victorian prison hulks, made the most vulnerable people on Earth feel frightened and persecuted, whilst treating them like criminals and putting them in conditions that endangered their health and lives!
Oh, and then she joined the people trying to bring down the Tories and sabotaged her own government, displaying the loyalty of a rattlesnake!

I stand by my original point that you don’t have to agree with every single thing a politician in a party you support says. This is one of the problems with tribal politics. People think they have to be 100% aligned with their political party’s message. People tend to be much more nuanced than that, and agree with some things and not with others. We are people, not sheep.

Dale was perfectly willing to run for THIS version of the Tory party. The version that mocks trans people in front of the parents of children who were murdered for being trans. The version that complains about the immigration that they increase. The version that complains about taxes that they waste and corruptly share with their friends and families. This isn’t a Braverman exclusive ideology. All the ministers under her, the ministers at cabinet and Sunak himself have all defended her when she made similar statements in the past . That’s all of the party’s best and brightest. He wanted to join them.

The country has had enough ot toxic, poisonous politics, we could all do with a very long spell of uneventful, boring politics to reunited the country so we can all work together to repair the damage caused by the past 14 years of the Tories.
