There are videos on UA-cam of Leeds Children's Day which took place each year from the 1920's to the 1960's. Many of the schools in Leeds would send a maypole team as part of a demonstration of massed maypole dancing with up to 1000 children taking part in front of tens of thousands of spectators. I was a member of my school's team in the early 60's.
I danced this maypole with Donna Maria from 8-12yrs 20years ago! Can’t believe she’s still going I was Blossom usually one of the little ones on the outside
