The caution followed the failure of First Republic, the second-largest banking failure in US history, and the third bank to collapse in the country since March.
JP Morgan Chase took over First Republic in a deal brokered by regulators - but there is a warning that the US could face a credit crunch and an economic slowdown, and at a crucial time, if another bank fails.

It was a very bad decision to remove the Glass-Steagall Act in the late 1990s, which led to the spectacular failure of huge banks during the financial crisis of 2007-2008. To prevent another disaster, Dodd-Frank and this statute both need to be reestablished right away. What happened with these banks is only the beginning of what will happen if nothing is done to address the current situation.
In my opinion, some of the banks was attempting to restructure their bond portfolio, which involved selling their low-yielding bonds despite the potential loss, and compensating for it by buying higher-interest-rate bonds on the open market.

This deal was a disaster to other small banks as their credit ratings will worsen, deposits will disappear and they will find it extremely difficult to get funding.
This is fundamental banking and not just a short trading story (as indicated by your interviewee).
It is now likely we will see an exponential number of failures going forward. It will start with smaller banks and move up the size scale.
