CORRECTION: The part at 2:11 after the "Here comes the pain!" sample is 4 hits on the low 6th string, not a 3 or a triplet like I said in the video. It looks like that's how I played it in my cover but must've forgotten how to play it all these years later lol. I might do a re-visited cover anyway since that one is pretty outdated and my equipment's a lot better now...
Bro actually makes the best lessons of slipknot, i do wish you would make a few lessons covering micks parts just because it would be interesting to learn both, but respect either way, love these videos
Thanks, Mick's style never connected with me as a player so I don't study his parts but I love how it interweaves with Jim's. But yeah it'd be cool if someone else covered/taught Mick's parts
Cheers for the lesson. I actually had to look back at the Ozzfest 99 live performance because I've been playing the bridge part wrong: replacing the fretted bits on the 6th string with open chugs. :P Goes to show that you're spot on with your lessons, and it's good to revisit old shows to see how Mick/Jim played parts.
@@Albert-_117 ua-cam.com/video/y3qwrpHjKeE/v-deo.htmlsi=UsxLfPmto2rvIR-a&t=82 You can clear as day see that they're both playing a minor second where you say they're playing a major second. Jim never goes to the 4th fret and is playing the 3rd fret in the spot you say he's playing the 4th. Plenty of other footage confirming this too. Here's one from 1999: ua-cam.com/video/CkBwViNPKjg/v-deo.htmlsi=u05CYtEuqNj_cjfU&t=58
I feel so betrayed by this song. I always thought the tuning for the song was off in the recording or something lol The intro is played entirely different. It’s not just all opens with that 1 barre power chord played at the end (and neither is the galloped version of it). After watching “Anton Khoff” cover it, I figured it out. It doesn’t start with an open note. It starts with the first fret! I slowed down the recording and that guy is definitely playing that part correctly. Check out his cover and slow the song down. What he’s playing matches what’s played on the album. I hope this helps anyone else who’s been stumped over that intro riff and the galloped part. Also at 2:20 that’s not a triplet being played. It’s supposed to be four open sixteenth notes. I’m still looking deep into covers, lessons & live shows to figure out exactly what’s being played. Been piecing everything together for days lmao Edit: Also I think you nailed that riff at 7:50 Seen Jim playing it live and it looks very similar to what he was playing. I hadn’t seen anyone else play that riff like this. So this lesson has really helped me out too.
I think you're misinformed here. The tuning IS off on the album, it's a little sharp of Drop B as I mention in most of my S/T lessons. Maybe that's why you're hearing things differently, but I disagree with everything you're saying. It doesn't start on the first fret, there's plenty of footage of them playing it live where it's clear it is opens and the first fret power chord at the end. You can see he's playing triplets at the part you're saying I'm wrong on too. ua-cam.com/video/eLQYvtS-xoI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ErynnHalvorson for example.
@@BlackacreDoe The riff after “Here comes the pain” Jim is playing sixteenth notes followed by two eighth notes. That whole riff starts off with two open eighth notes, followed by 4 sixteenth notes, 2 more eighth notes and then finally you hit fret 3 then 2 (which are also eighth notes). You could see Jim play it like that on the video you showed. Also listen to the song on UA-cam and set the playback speed to 0.75x. You could clearly hear that’s what’s being played. You are right about the intro riff though 🤔
@@decayingcorpse-xv The riff after the here comes the pain sample is definitely 3-2 and then the open notes and Jim's playing it that way in the video too, I don't know what you're referring to. I've covered multiple of their albums in their entirety and spent countless hours listening to the songs and watching live videos on all types of slowed down speeds. If you don't believe me you're welcome to post a cover with how you think it's played but we can agree to disagree, I don't think what you're saying is right.
@@BlackacreDoeI know they play 3-2 when the sample plays. But that’s the ending part of the riff. That isn’t how the whole riff actually starts. The next bar is where the entirety of the riff is played. So yeah, it does start with an open string. I’ve always been way too anxious to upload any covers, simply do to the fact that I’m not a camera person. But I’ll try and record a short video of me playing that part. Don’t know how good the video will actually be since I only have the camera of an old iPhone 6s. Your videos look fckn amazing. Btw there’s a video of Joey playing the song on an acoustic guitar in front of an audience. He obviously struggles to play it because he’s more of a drummer. But even when he plays that riff, he’s not doing triplets like you do in your video. He plays sixteenth notes instead. And at 2:21 that is not a triplet. What you are playing there is a reversed gallop. Two 16th notes followed by an 8th. I used to think those were called triplets too.
@@decayingcorpse-xv 3-2 is what is played right after the sample plays so I guess you're explaining that riff to me in reverse and saying I'm wrong. I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty, sixteenth note here dotted eighth here with you. But I do see now what you mean in that one riff where I'm doing triplets and he's not, it looks like I played it that correct way in the cover years ago but forgot that's how it's actually played for this recent lesson.

Duda why the hell my octave sounds terrible even in correct tunning..
hey, guy! try to punch your strings in guitar, not out. it helps being more punchy and try to play closer to bridge pickup
Could be an intonation issue. Is your guitar set up for Drop B?
Which amp you take for slipknot
I did a rig rundown video recently that has all my gear
Which strings are you using and gauge size
