Since Charles wants to cut so much out of his coronation, why not just have an inauguration like all the other European monarchs? Then he should take a page from the Dutch and Belgians: get too old, step down for fresh blood on the throne (British monarchs won't do this because they're "Anointed" ). Sorry, but I was looking forward to a truly spectacular pageant like his mother's. I was only 9 months old at that time, and I'll probably not outlive Charles as my family doesn't have the genes that his has.

@@TheKingsofFrance Yes, this wonderful memento of the 1937 Coronation was passed down to me from my maternal grandmother.
I keep this delicate, browning newspaper in a plastic case to prevent further deterioration - occasionally, I take it out and very cautiously turn the brittle pages, still fascinated by the write-ups of the occasion, the obscure reports of the day, and the wonderful adverts promoting a vast array of products that are alien to us today!

Hey, kings of France; did you know there was A plan to unify both Britain and France as one county but was dropped.
Eisenhower thought of a plan to split Bavaria from Germany; add it to Austria; and put Otto von Habsburg on its throne. Nothing came of that either.
