  • This is the first, original mix/version of my piece which I posted some weeks ago. I was unsure if I should post this version or not-but here it is all the same. A 'Loop' piece which doesn't change much by design. Probably best for background, or low-volume playback, or reading to, etc... Hope you like!

Of course I liked it. That sound that you are doing at the 12:32 / 12:33 mark sounds really cool. Is that done though the keyboards or your guitar synth? Little subtle parts like that make your songs so original Gary. I will play the last eight minutes this evening. Thank you for sharing it. It was the perfect background music for this pre-work coffee time on my computer. I love the early morning check-ins over a cup of coffee. Checking in with a friend like yourself. Wonderful. have a nice weekend G~

Hey buddy! I think the sound you're referring to is the electric slide guitar that is looped and plays at times through the piece. I was hesitant to post this, but done as a background I think it's really not bad. I mean I like it myself.
I appreciate you always being here, listening, and leaving nice comments. Hope everything is going well for you and you're enjoying summer, and hope the music room project is coming along.

Nice and billowy. I left a previous comment, but I guess it didn't go thru or it's possible I didn't hit the comment button. On second thought, I left a link in here, which YT doesn't like... At any rate, I may just send you an email. I wondered how you were doing the looping? Is that done thru the mixer? Do you also have a mixer pedal? Nice stuff G.

Hey buddy-Yes I did get a notification of your earlier message. I even clicked several times on the notification but your comment never came up. It could be that YT didn't like the links, I know that's been a issue i've seen.
Loop #1 is the acoustic guitar strum looped/repeated using a standard digital delay. I played some very subtle, unheard stuff I think, along with that loop while I just let it record into the software program. I then added a keyboard part or 2, played only once or twice and recorded that directly into the software via overdub (not using the digital delay pedal), and I looped that part in the software itself after I recorded the live key playing. I then did the same with several guitar overdubs, playing a part once or twice, allowing silence between phrases, and then just looping it in the software. I did maybe another 4, 5, maybe more of those guitar overdubs, mostly on guitar synth (all this stuff is better heard in the first 'mix' of this track I posted), using the software to loop those as well. So this certainly was NOT a thing done 'live' in other words!
      Thanks again for listening!

It's odd, YT must be having some problems as I never got a notice on this, just came over here to see if you ever got it--either that or my notifications is screwy, but I think it's the former. Pretty cool though how you described it. It came out well, and these days I feel, whether one plays their stuff live or not doesn't matter what with sampling and every other software and devices that one can use at the disposal. It's not like studio musicians don't do that as well, with even more sophisticated technology and using studio musician if called for--and they been doing that for many years now. That said, I'm not saying that there aren't many super talented musicians out there, because there certainly are. I think the main thing is just to try, and don't worry about how you went about it. If I worried about that, I'd never do anything. :)

@@culturefan Exactly. Well i've always been a fan of musicians using a studio fully and overdubbing. In fact my very favorite albums are those where one musician does just that: plays alone, all the parts by himself in an overdubbed situation. Some favorite albums done like this: John Abercrombie's 'Characters', several Harold Budd albums, Terje Rypdal's 'After The Rain', Ralph Towner's 'Blue Sun' and 'Diary'. There's just tons of them. I prefer them fully using the studio to overdub rather than just go in and play a live thing in the studio and release it like that.
