The correct term for the Vietnamese ruler is both king and emperor. All Vietnamese rulers considered themselves emperors, but they couldn't say that officially because that would put them on the same level as the Chinese emperor. To do so was to insult China, so Vietnamese rulers had to call themselves kings when dealing with foreign countries. They still called themselves emperors at home.

Proud to have been to Hue... I always spend maximum of 6 dollars for accomodations. In Hue, I got to spend 8 for something with the bath tub. But this was most memorable because of the Spring Roll with a transparent wrap. That spring roll made me love Vietnam.

Nice to see Hue again. I was not aware that the audio tour there was so helpful and detailed (I had decided not to use it there a few years ago but might use it next time). This video is reminding me of how delicious the food is in Hue - the best food in Viet Nam. When I first went to Hue (one of four times) back in 1995, I remember the palace there being renovated/restored and in subsequent years as well. They have really done a lot of work. Hope they keep the traditions of the Ao Dai and that it makes a bit of a comeback in other areas of Viet Nam as well.
Hue seems the same - so full of history and laid back, sleepy, peaceful, enjoyable, and colorful. Certain neighborhoods in Hue have the beautiful Hue Garden Home style houses which are just so cool.
Great video and go Ninja Teacher Academy! Hope Viet Nam opens up again soon.

Something to note, King and Emperor were eras of Vietnam. Some period, vietnam only had kings because Vietnam was a sovereign state of China. Acording to China, there can only be one Emperor. Once Vietnam regained independence, some Kings took on title of Emperor. Which was quite insulting to China as Vietnam deemed themselves equal to the great China.
