This is absolutely the simplest and most correct fix. After realizing the common problem and the easy cost effective solution, I bought two new pumps through INTEX… Payed the same amount in shipping for two of them versus just one… Shocking. Put my new pump in in just a few minutes, and I am right back in business. Trying to do any fix it to these cheap small pumps is a waste of time. The investment is minimal for new pumps, and so is the time it takes to install a new one and be right back in business. This video is the best of all of them!!
I got that code. Cleaned my filters. Only put filter back on intake. But...let it run a minute without filters because air was in the pump. Running fine since for $0.
Thank you for this. I could not get rid of the E90 error code. Did everything including changing filters. I let it run without outtake filter. No error. Put on outtake filter E90 reappeared. So let it run for 2 days without outtake filter then put on the outtake filter. It’s been 2 days & no error. Thank you. I wouldn’t have known to do this without your post. Now I have a new pump I do not need.
Many times when air stuck in the pump will come up with E90. You can power it off then power it back on. Now push the filter button (pump on) then push it again (pump off) in 2 seconds. Repeat it until no bubbles are pushed out.
These pumps are definitely not $50 anymore. Those were the good ol' days, I guess. Today, they're $160 on Amazon. Today, the shaft is $8. I'll try shaft first. Thanks for the video!
Great video and advice. That said, I ran the unit with both filters and the return taken off for 5 minutes (after bubble purging also), changed the 2 filters which were only in for a few weeks and looked pretty good and that solved my problem. The return being removed alone did nothing to help. There was also a little bit of black pudding skin like guck returned into the main tub area that I see from time to time. I am thinking it’s residue from the internal pump area as the filter would def. Catch it from going in. Bottom line is clean water and filters sometimes makes all the difference.
Hey guys. I bought one today second hand and had the code. Watched alot of videos and decided I'd fix it myself. I'm not an electrician or anything like that. But basically I took the pump off from the bottom. Took the top section off the pump. And where the propeller is on the pump there is a little rod going through it. I'm assuming plastic. Anyways that was broken! So I found a nail that was the same diameter. Snipped the ends off and made it the same length as the broken plastic one. And I've had no issue with it. Litterally took me an hour.
The rod going through the propeller is to keep it center. The plastic one had snapped causing the propeller to wobble causing it to stop. Hope this helps
My tub is 2 years old. The E90 code is a water flow restriction. I always get the code when the filter needs changed. I hit the GFCI reset button to power down the unit, then change the filter and power it back on. Have you tried that? or had the E90 code after the new pump was installed?
Exactly, normally you simply replace the paper filter but eventually the pump itself dies. There are 4 screws on the Blue Intex spas that hold the base together. Once they are off the replacement takes 5 minutes. I"m back up and running in less than 20 minutes.
I replace the filter next to the unit itself and it started right away. So happy I did not have to invest in anything else. "Change the filter on bottom".
This is so great! I'm having the same problem. We bought ours new June 2020....now the E90 won't go away! So I just ordered 2 pumps with expedited shipping. Hopefully i get it soon. I'll report back. Thanks again!
In order to replace the pump did you detach the hoses from the base to the spa? It’s only logical, but did you just place the rubber caps to prevent the water from leaking out? Seems like it would start gushing out as soon as you started unscrewing. Also I haven’t seen how to replace the pump on this particular unit, do you just flip it upside down like the other videos? Or can you access it from the top?- I’m sad intex is out of stock of these pumps right now. I can’t find them anywhere.
It should have came with caps... 2 inside caps and 2 outside caps for them holes... Cap it off inside before removing.... Otherwise yes it will all start gushing out. You have to take the filters off first, then caps go on.
Very helpful video! My pump got to where it wouldn't restart if it turned off. But, I took it apart and tapping on the motor would get it to start. The shaft and propeller looked great so I lubed the shaft and "spinny" parts with Vasoline and for now it seems to be working normally again. I may need to replace the motor in the future but my tub is only a year old.
I literally just got my Intex hot tub not even two days ago and it’s been working perfectly and tonight I got out and I put the top back on it I fastened it down and out of nowhere the E 90 code popped up so I turned off the hot tub and I unplugged it I waited a second and I plugged it back in and I turned it back on and I turned the heat back on and it seemed to work because I waited a little while and it did not do the code and I seen that sometimes there can be a clog so when I turned it all back on and it pushed water through I think I got the clog I hope that’s what it is because I haven’t even had it for like three days
My issue is that pieces of the coating in the pipes/lines (black material) is chunking off and I think that's clogged my pump. I'm worried that even if I replace the pump I will still have that issue.
How do you get the case off to get to the pump. I have a pump in hand but either the case is stuck or I am doing it wrong. Removed four screws on the case do I have to disconnect the pipes as well?
I have only had mine for not even 2 months and I have had that e90 error code come up three times already. It did it again last night and this morning I did change my filters and I got the beeping to stop again but I have a feeling it will come back I don't know. I took off the filter and I can feel the suction coming out of there so I know that is working but my filter light will no longer light up not even when I press it? Do you know what is going on there
Replaced the pump and still have an E90 code. So it’s not a bulletproof fix. I think it may be the control board now. Sucks that it lasts only 2 years. Also their tech support sucks and is useless.
Hi thank you so much for the info. I get the E90 code everyday when I turn the filter on. The filter is dirty so after I put a new one in, it works fine. Do you think I need a new filter pump. My spa is 1 year old?

What I do is fill my spa , with water that is heated up to 110* degree water coming from your garden hose and ran thru a propane heater used for taking hot showers when you go camping these little portable units run off of a 5 gallon propane tank and heat the water from your garden hose one past thru snd puts out 90 to 120 degrees water continuously until your spa is full and the is hot and ready to go as soon as its filled up.
