This game is beautiful. The art design, story, and gameplay are all well crafted. The only improvement that could've been made was more voice acting. Whenever a character spoke the delivery had so much weight to it which only had me wanting more. I imagine this is because the budget was tight but still was great all the same.
i loved this game. I never played any other game like this. Its atmosphere and tone is so sad, bleak and hoplesly real. Its a trilogy i will never forget.
I'll never forget the masterpiece that is Banner Saga, and the story of Alette from a wide eyed hopeful girl to a hardened, badass leader willing to go any lenghts to guide her people to a better place. Also, my boy Ludin, he is the best, his character development is also great, beginning as a spoiled superb kid and becoming a man fit to be a king. I shipped them so much together, lol.
This game is one of few I've played that made you feel the weight of your decisions. I was terrible at it on my first run, and ended up in a spiral with a starving and dying caravan. I felt downright depressed as I was losing on all fronts; losing battles leading to weaker party members, leading to losing combat, etc. Not to mention bringing more people into my caravan just for them to betray me, I felt like I just couldn't do anything right, haha.
Immediately bought the whole series after watching this. Your take on the themes of beauty in the struggle and the how the people beside us give us hope gave me some LOTR vibes for sure. beautiful write up!
i finish this game in 2017, an absolutely master piece. I never feel the history of final fantasy tactics or any other tactical turn base combat but i always remember this game, his story and atmosphere. Awesome game for such a small group of people. Thanks for the video, i was looking for some kinda review of this game and now i know that i'm not the only that thinks this game is special :)
Proud to have been one of the folks who helped crowd fund this trilogy. Also proud to have kept my boy Egil alive through all three games! You actually get an achievement for it, as he’s the character with the most opportunities to die! Poor kid. XD
Brilliant stuff dude. Love your take on finding the beauty and things worth fighting for in darkness. That's always been my take as well, because I think it's real easy to sit back and say that everything sucks, but it's so much more meaningful to say that things are hard, but we can find good in them, difficult as it may be. And I am kind of a sucker for stuff that's about the end of the world over a long period, as opposed to Thanos level threats or whatever. I think Dark Souls III does this tremendously well And jeez man, I didn't even play the game, but I was deeply affected by that final choice of the game you discuss. Absolutely wild, man. Really, just a great video, man. I don't even play these kinds of games, but I'm sold haha. But yeah, there are some very nice and subtle editing details in this that I picked up on that maybe I hadn't before, so very nice Keep it up dude!
I do enjoy it too! Been wanting to play the game since a year or two, but now I really consider to experience the story myself. Thanks for conveying this video, and have yourself a new fan!
Last month it was 5 years, since I played Banner Saga for the 1st time. And 3 years, since I nade my friend stream his playthrough for me. So I decided to look at some videos about it(sadly it seems, there aren't that many) and after watching thid one, you made me to play it again. Not that I am complaining. But I already have so little of time for games. Before I played as Rook, so I am interested to play as Alette now.
I've played through the banner saga series twice and I couldn't stop alette from making the shot either time. The first time I pretty much knew that she would die and the second I literally knew that she would. I just couldn't deny alette her autonomy or her role, I wanted to play like I was rook and I couldn't imagine doing that to my daughter. Her funeral made me cry, I felt terrible.
I really love that trilogy... except one thing. The Ending almost ruin the whole experience. The idea of literally choosing The ending you want shouldn't be a thing. It was terrible in Divinity Original Sin 2, it is terrible in Banner Saga. The endings should be an conclusions of stories we get to experience. It can be one formal conclusion like in The Last of us which close The story of game perfectly. Or it can be summary of our decision, conclusion of our personal story. I prefer the first option but in Banner Saga i do not feel neither of these. After finishing Banner Saga 3 i felt like creators said to me "thank you for playing our game, bye!". And nothing more. No emotions, no thoughts, Just emptiness to put another game in it.
Just came to say that nobody should waste money on this game. There is a single mechanic that is utterly game breaking to a point that it's unplayable and I have no idea why anyone thinks it's good. Those of you that haven't played it that purchase it on this video's romantacizing are going to lose your sh*t about 2 hours in after it's too late to get Steam to refund you.
I beat the trilogy at least twice this is the best game I've ever played. I don't want to recommend it to someone who wouldn't like it, just my opinion. I'll say 2 & 3 weren't as honed as the first one but they were very good and it has to be difficult to keep up to the standard they set in the first one.
Playing that trilogy was one of the greatest rides I ever made

I think that's a strong feeling this game invokes regardless how well anyone plays. Thanks for the great comment!

Oh radical! Have an awesome time with the games! And thank you for the sweet comment, it means a lot to hear I was able to do the game justice.
GREAT game. Highly underrated. Thanks for recommending it.

Ah man, you make me want to play the whole trilogy again.
😮
If you do, have a awesome time, and be sure not to make the mistake I made with Egil, he's such a good boy.
I loved this game!! My favourite character was Ekkil. Absolutely love his character design and he’s a viking through and through.
What a brutally underrated series.
One of the best and most evocative stories I have experienced. A really special trilogy
I fell in love with this game the moment I saw the trailer, It's a trilogy that i recommend to anyone.
Brilliant stuff dude.

Heheheh my skills in conveying pathos is slowly increasing.
For real though thanks for watching Noah, glad you enjoyed watching it!

Best videogame trilogy ever made
The trilogy is powerful, thank you for this.
That series is supper good, glad you enjoyed it!
well put essay. keep up the good work

That part is brutal, it's such a good game!
The combat is so hard even thou the mechanics are so simple, i still find it so diffcult
It reminds me ALOT of Ralph Bakshi's rotoscoped work most notably The Lord of the Rings
I love that comparison, excellent observation!
thx. ur video. Loved this game.
BS1 1000/1000(XBOX)
BS2 1250/1250(XBOX)
BS3 850/1000(XBOX)
Thanks for watching, glad you got some enjoyment out of it! Also well done, that's some dedication!
I loved the first game but I think parts 2 and 3 dropped the ball a bit and felt rushed at points.
Good quality of video but too many spoilers for my taste. You should warn in advance if you are going to spoil parts of the story
He did, though, if you watch carefully.
So this is where all the Bioware writers went?

You got me curious, what's the mechanic?
Enjoyment. Apparently, some people are bothered by actually enjoying the the games they play.@@Pollymacho
Played through the trilogy about 4 times and have absolutely no idea what this could be in reference to..
Having more strenght or less based if you surround or get surrounded by enemies?
