Also worth mentoning is that the games are short and pretty cheap so it is by no means a big comittment to check them out, if I remember right i did all three in something like 25 hours together
i suck at the combat aspect of this game so i played it on easy, but the story, conversations, characters and art style was enough for me to really enjoy it. great trilogy!
I love this video, actually made me pick up the original banner saga. Shame this video only has 610 view, this video needs a lot more love from your community, if your keep up what you’re doing I could see you on a Mr. Matty type of level
Great video. Loved this series and completed them all in less than a week during 2020 lockdown. If I were to put all games into one position (which I think is fair since they act like 3 episodes of one game and they are all pretty similar quality wise) I'd put it in my overall top 10 games I've played so far. Honestly although they're very close to each other quality wise my ranking of the games is the direct opposite of yours.
Ngl, this trilogy is how i Kinda wish they had gone with dragon age…mass effect trilogy felt like they were just iterating on it bit by bit whereas dragon age felt like they did a bunch of drugs to get to each successive game.
Stunning music and art. Excellent story. Deterministic tactical combat and unforgiving decision-making / management gameplay that both fit the tone of the game perfectly.
Way underrated and a series more people seriously need to look at if they want to change up the more generic games and long-spanning franchises in their life 😉
@@legacy0fbacon719 you are correct ";)" is probably the most innocuous version but regardless any form of wink has a more flirtatious connotations nowadays rather than a cheeky/joking connotation
Just finished the trilogy (physical copy, Switch) and...rrrrrrrgggggh...the ending. That trilogy took quite some time, so not sure I'd really play the entire trilogy over again just to see if there's a better ending to get. Amazing game trilogy regardless though, art is amazing, story is just as great as the art, the combat is good and unique considering there are a lot of this tile tactical rpg type of game out there in the tactical rpg genre. More than any of this though, the characters are my favorite part of the story. So many unique characters, and the witty, dark, and funny dialogue in the grim situations reminds me so much of my favorite characters in Joe Abercrombie's First Law series. An amazing debut from an indie developer.
There are several possible endings ranging from total catastrophe to narrowly-averted near-total catastrophe. I kid, but there was a pretty good happy ending (with the caveat that the world had already been mostly destroyed by the end of the second game no matter what), and a range of really depressing endings. Highly recommend playing a second time, if only just to see how the Rook/Alette choice plays out differently across 2 and 3. Your choices really can make the game play out differently within the constraints of the plot.
I bought a physical copy of the trilogy for Xbox One few days ago for less than 6 euros, it was such a bargain and I can say it's truly awesome, I highly recommend this franchise
hahaha, Bak actually got a mention 5:20... two mentions?! 12:03 Another great review and pitch by longbrow for an amazing game. Is it a 'perfect' game? I have certain quibbles about how the turn-based combat system is implemented and the leveling system, but sometimes a great game isn't the sum of a rubric. I agree wholeheartedly that the game had a really cool aesthetic and told a great story with compelling characters in a world that I want to know more about. So no, it's not perfect, but it's one that I remember, more so than games that were flawless, but lacked banner saga's sense of epicness. Longbrow, your review got me to play the whole trilogy all over again. lol!
Bak's wife is dead, mate. :( Says so in the cavern, when Bolverk can check the pools and stuff. He complains about the loneliness, the "hole shaped like her" in his life etc. That said, great review. I'll check more of your channel :)
I actually played the entire Banner Saga Trilogy on my PS4. It was one of my first Tactical RPG game which is sort of like Fire Emblem, but with Vikings.
Trygvvi more like the LEGENDARY BLOODLETTER, fr i went full crit on this man, and im so glad i did. Hes to good honestly especially his Neckless in the third game.
I used Bloodletter on Alette, and not only because her name basically BEGS for it, but also because overwatch with bloodletter was so awesome. Also - I gave Tryggvis necklace to like Ubin or Hakon or someone. XD
I have the physical Switch version.. It’s definitely original as it appears to be a hybrid visual novel/choose your adventure coupled with light srpg elements.. It kinda goes over my head when I play as I’m used to more traditional stuff like Fire Emblem but hey I’m trying..
I hate this game. How are you supposed to progress if you keep loosing and the game doesnt let you retry the battle, or when you win not one of the characters you want to level up got upgrade, because they died during the fight?
The pat response is to stop losing battles and stop letting the characters you want to upgrade die. The real response is to start over and pay closer attention to what the tutorial section is trying to teach you, then use the training tent to practice until you are comfortable with the rules and mechanics of each class without cost or risk to your units (which you can also use to grind out kills for your less offense-minded units). Once you grasp the fundamental strategic implication of the armor/strength dichotomy, the game will start to make sense and it will get easier.
played finished and enjoyed the first one but couldn't bring myself to play 2nd and third and my favorite genre of games is tactics games. Can't pinpoint what exactly was it that made me not want to play 2nd and 3rd but simply couldn't care enough to continue it
Also worth mentoning is that the games are short and pretty cheap so it is by no means a big comittment to check them out, if I remember right i did all three in something like 25 hours together
Which difficulty?

HBO MAX should make this saga a series.

Hope you enjoy it man! It’s great

This is indeed one of the best games I have ever played!!

Looks pretty good to me. A fine addition to your catalog of videos. Thank you, Longbrow.
Thank you for making this video. I am very passionate about this game, and I am glad people are starting to recognize it more.

This game made me actually feel accomplished at the end
I remember really enjoying the first game, I gotta try out the rest of the trilogy. Oh btw you mispelled "too" in the title
I was just about to bring up the title
Great review! I purchased the switch physical copy and looking forward to seeing playing it. 😃
First game I got on my switch was the collection. Such incredible games, really good review!!

I own the trilogy on Switch and PlayStation. These devs get all my $$$. It scratches such a specific tactical itch!
Out of random curiosity... ever played a turn based strategy called Disciples II?
hahaha, Bak actually got a mention 5:20... two mentions?! 12:03

Game is 🐐ed. I want to know a hell of a lot more about the lore especially since that map was so big and had so much story and detail in it
Never heard of it but I'll still watch :)
This isn't the rating every ingredient video wtf?
Jokes aside, big agree, these games are great
Hidden gem of the last decade, as well as Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak
Tough games but beautiful
Never played it but it’s next up after I finish Pillars off Eternity 2

Great review 👍
your review is super funny
Banner saga trilogy is probably the best turn- based game for the last 15 years. Heroes 3 veteran speaking...
I just wished that they ported 3 in iOS as well.
This...this doesn't look like Skyrim.
I'm confused...? Haha.

If you like this game play Shining Force on Sega and Sega CD.

I was going to leave a like but it's on 69 right now
3:53 Geez man, focus more on the story, one quick joke is good but you make too many stops. Sucks cause you own a good voice.
