Walksnail Avatar digital FPV system has one amazing feature that DJI FPV system lacks. It’s the Avatar VRX, the external receiver module you can attach to any FPV goggles with HDMI input. If you have goggles, then starting with Walksnail Avatar is cheaper, as you don’t need to buy more expensive Avatar goggles.
But the separate receiver has one additional advantage! It has a standard HDMI output, so you can connect anything you want to it. For example, a HDMI field monitor and build a real digital FPV ground station!

I went with the VRX from the start because it gives me more options. It works awesome with the HDZero goggles, but starts to get a bit heavy with all that hanging off the front. Might have to get this as well for days when I don’t want to wear the goggles the whole time (or if someone wants to watch).

Best use will be to put the vrx to antenna tracker. Yes, hdma cable will be one more thing hanging from the goggles but with DJI you can forget about antenna trackers...

Will the HDMI splitter introduce additional lag do you think? And do you have a link for that tripod?
I'm still deciding if I should go with the 1S VTX or not for my 10 year old Mini Skywalker which flies so efficiently and well with modern gear. It depends on what range I can get with that vtx.

      Exactly what I'm thinking!
My only concern, so far, is how far can I run a coax cable, without losing too much signal? I have come across concepts such as impedance matching, while trying to figure this out. (not even sure if it's applicable to this scenario) If all seems good, once I am confident in my understanding of these things, a portable, telescoping riser mount for the receiver will be a very satisfying goal to attain!

You can use walksnail goggle for the pilot, and vrx with monitor set up as audience. Less dangling cable and no additional latency caused by the splitter.
The drawback is cost, of course 😅

Hi Pawel, Great video on your walksnail ground station. I am so confused about what to get. DJI or WALKSNAIL. I am looking for a ground station that has a tracking system. I'm disabled and in a wheelchair, I have seen ground standards that can track your drone or aircraft. Thanks for the video and information about this ground station.

You will need a Telemetry Transmitter and Receiver. + GPS & compass unit and a flight controller that supports ardupilot. to get up the real time tracking you can use your laptop or phone with a usb receiver and run Mission planner.from there you can watch the map in real time along other flight information as well as the camera feed.. I suggest you find a forum for FPV flying and make a post for more in depth information. I am no expert, but I plan on doing a similar setup as you with a glider.
I saw some cool setups on UA-cam using a raspberry pi with a 4g/lte mod so the guy basically had unlimited range as long as he had LTE/4G coverage. He then had Mission Planner running on his computer and a Xbox one controller he used if he wanted to fly manually. inside of the program he could make the plane fly a route, set waypoints very easily as well as a return to home function to name a few things.
Tell me how it goes!.wich aircraft do you plan to do this project with?

Pavel, Hi, this is a really useful thing! I have purchased a VRX module and I am using it with my 10.1 inch FEELWORLD field monitor!
I prefer long-distance flights and I'm really happy with this system!
The only thing is that most monitors currently have HDMI support with a frequency of 60 fps, which entails a total delay of the entire system of 34-37 milliseconds. At that time, Avatar glasses or other devices that have an HDMI port with support for 48 Gigabit HDMI 2.1 for UHD have a delay of the entire Avatar system of the claimed 22 milliseconds! Yes, those who fly with a monitor for long distances do not really think about the problem of a delay of 35 milliseconds.
But I have a question for you, does your FEELWORLD recorder also have an HDMI 2.0 port, are you engaged in video production, perhaps you know any portable device with a 48 Gigabit UHD HDMI port?
    Thank you.
I watched your video about the "D D D" signal when flashing the Avatar module, thank you for the good mood!

Hi Pawel, but you see that for me this is not a real Ground Station...
The most important thing is missing, the Tracker...

Regarding latency, is it possible to have a pair of Dominator HD v3 goggles **AND** this VRX both getting the video feed? This way the pilot will not get that additional latency from going through the ground station.
