-1st test match: "tackle" on grosso: "its not intentional, there is not reason for red card"
-2nd test match: contest of fall: "Intention doesnt count, rule is rule"

Yes, these "the rule is the rule, but only when it suits my team" people really make me jaded. There IS red card for Fall, but there also should have been red card for the New Zealand player (I don't remember his name) during the first match.
For me that wasn't a red card, but is very probably the 15 frenchmen seen barret and still going down against him, In other words: its a Fr vs NZ rugby game, come on everybody hope see violence.

I understand why people are against the red card but it was a red card offence all day regardless of the intent of Benjamin Fall. Even under the older interpretations this was a red card offence. It was extremely clumsy by Benjamin Fall but he left referee Angus Gardner with no option but to brandish a red card.
The All Blacks didn't play well in response to the red card. It seemed like they lost their structure and became too loose in the way they tried to play the game, resulting in a messy contest with a high error count. The French to their credit, hung in there and showed some fight, after folding meekly after conceding a harsh yellow card in the first test.
The All Blacks will take a good, long hard look at the way they played and the team they put out for the final test in Dunedin should hopefully be a more cohesive unit.
The ovation from the whole stadium at the end when France scored summed up this match for me. French played the better, even with 14 men for 68 minutes and 2 disallowed tries. ABs played crap, ball in hand and on d. GGz to the French.

The scoreline isnt the only measure and comparison to the teams performance dumbass. The French outplayed the All Blacks in every facet of the game apart from the lineout. The French played with passion, going hard the whole game whereas the ABs played with no class. Nearly 30 missed tackles in ONE game LOL how many dropped balls??? and what was up with Canes shove on the halfback after the pass? real classy on a team down to 14 and still beating the ABs at the ruck. You can play better and still lose.

Before yal get up in arms about the red, put the shoe on the other foot. If France copped the same thing, yal would be hating on them for it too. So guys, get over it. If one of their best players landed dangerously, they would demand a red no doubt. Just quit with the excuses and just look ahead to the next match.

Yes ! There is so much more to playing rugby than winning or losing. Also all the layers in between. The French to their credit played a great defensive and offence plan. With the 14 man team that was thrust [ so to speak ] upon them. Put the lose series in the learnings. Come fired to win the last game, and to finish on an ascending note. .........HG BLACK ..........
It was tough on Fall as clearly there was no intent, but it was careless and a red due to the landing. However France showed tremendous spirit and their try was cheered by the whole pub here in Christchurch. From an ABs fan, Allez Les Bleus!

I think the red was totally appropriate. Head injuries are no joke and should be penalized, avoided and part of the modern game should be smart tackling. I also thought the French side played very well otherwise and are well on their way to another World Cup final. The ABs seemed a bit scattered and were lucky to win. It was a curious display of new beginnings for both teams.
So why no card for the head injury on grosso ?

And that's why there are many frustrated French supporters like me out there. Head injury to a French player by a dirty shoulder tackle by an All Black ? Nothing. Head injury to an All Black player because of a security neglect by a French player ? Red card... There is absolutely no consistency in the sanctions, and that's annoying.
Shocking game
Let me just get a few things straight, Firstly France should be proud of their performance. They were very good tonight and for large parts of the game they were the ones who dominated. In the first half the All Blacks were the best team, but in the second half France were the much better team. Secondly, The red card given to the French fullback was a red card, yes he was going for the ball and wasn't looking at Barrett, but since he did not jump and contest the ball to any great degree he has to be responsible for making sure Barrett lands safely. And since he didn't do that, and he endangered Barrett he unfortunately had to be sent off. Yes it was a soft red, but at the end of the day rules are rules no matter how bad they are. Also to the people saying that this is another case of the ref being on the all blacks side, No that is not the case at all. The All Blacks still get unfair calls against them all the time. It's just that since the All Blacks are so good, everyone jumps on the bandwagon of hating the top team. This ain't football (soccer) where the higher-ups are corrupt, it's just that everyone notices when a good team gets a dodgy/ 50/50 call given to them more often than smaller teams. This is the case for most sports. But anyway the French look very good at the moment and should be proud/very pleased with their performance out there today, making the All Blacks look average. But tbf to the All Blacks they were missing some key players like Dan Coles, Kieren Reed and Barrett due to the injury, but that shouldn't overshadow the achievement of the French. So basically Well done France 👍
The same people who claim there's some conspiracy to protect the All Blacks and the ref made a bad call would be demanding a red card and suspension if an All Black crashed in to their player under the high ball like this incident. It's all swings and roundabouts but as you outlined the bad calls favoring the All Blacks gets magnified more than any other team.
I would say a few : yes, the red card is one. yes the refs favor the AB. And this is typically french : well done for the defeat, it was a nice one. (And being french, I know what I'm talking about on this one)

ok then, and what do you think of the agression on Grosso last week. 2 illegal tackles. no red card, no yellow card. at the end rules are rules ? are you sure ?
And this is just one example. Have a look at other games again other nations.
Career ending lucky to get up n walk away
Is their a press conference to this game from Steve Hansen. I'm really intrigued to have a listen about how bad the discipline on the all blacks side was and how they where unable to capitalize on the french playing with one man short the rest of the game. I was shocked to be honest at the inability to execute from the boys. To many basics not being made, almost reminded me of some of the group stages of the 2015 world cup. Got to be sharper in the basics like he always says otherwise that sort of play won't be forgiven come 2019.
Lose to the Lions with 14 men = Courageous win by the British. Beat a Les Bleus team with 14 men = Conspiracy. Still not sure about Ardie at this level and Fifita seems lost in heavy traffic. ABs really miss Cruden. Great effort by the French tonight. All international teams should practice playing a man down as it may become a critical reality next year in Japan. The rules are the rules so much better to recognise and plan for every possible situation than worry about factors you cannot control.
I think you will find the ABS do practice that but not 1 man down, try 2 or 3. I once watched Graham Henry taking them through just that drill, Richie was the only loosie up against Sione Lauaki, Daniel Braid and a young Keren Read ... funny enough he held his own, that was either 2008 or 2009

By the letter of the law, red card. I think the first time I saw something like this was Jared Payne. Very similar scenario.
However, whilst I don't make the laws, I believe that Red Cards should be reserved for two things: Highly dangerous DELIBERATE play OR the result of two yellow cards in the same game.
Something doesn't sit right with me that you can be sent off the pitch for 10minutes for purposely assaulting someone by punching them in the face, and you can be removed from the game for 70minutes and face subsequent bans for watching a ball in the air whilst someone jumps into you. But hey, maybe my logic is flawed.
For those saying that it could have been career ending and life changing, I could name many other actions of that nature that happen on rugby pitches which would only fetch penalties or yellow cards.

Great effort from France with only 14 men keep your heads up and give it all on the last test. The ABS have made heaps of errors and alot of mistakes but they will bounce back like they always do.
Ref spoilt the game with that red card, I thought it was a bit harsh, there was not intent to hurt the player, like when SBW tries to take off people's heads.
He was going for the ball, he had his eyes on it the whole time. He simply didnt go up. I dont think it was even a penalty. The only way its a penalty is if he saw the player go up and undercut him. If thats the standard, that gives an advantage to the defending catcher who will always be facing the kick.
This should be renamed, there weren't any high lights in this game,

All black supporter here but that’s not a red card he had eyes on the ball. Not sure what the ref means by he wasn’t in a position to catch it...saying that French made a lot of poor defensive errors and missed tackles
These 2 last matchs have proven again that red card are given for dangerous head contacts for every rugby nation, except new Zealand.

Neil O'Connell well he was a northern hemisphere ref. NH rugby you play like barbaric sheep no brains, Ireland are the best in the NH and they look really good. But their fans and commentators are a pretty biased lot.

Hate to see cards ruin the contest but that was just reckless. Whether or not he had eyes for the ball players have to be aware of their positioning when competing for high balls.

The referee followed the rules on that red card, so it was appropriate. But on the game perspective, Fall was clearly watching the ball.

I know that the french player didn't jumped or even tried to contest the ball but a red card? It's true, he should have tried to bring Barrett down in a safe way but that's a yellow card or perhaps I'm wrong in assuming that.
It would have been a yellow but since Barrett landed on his head/neck it was a red.

26 to 13: 15 v 14 for 58 mins of the game will always be a hollow victory in my book. Bring on the pink card 20 or 30 mins in the bin but then a replacement player comes on. By rights the score should have been higher for the Blacks so French did well and could easily have won on the basis of blacks performance.

A bit over the hour mark, I turned off the telly as I was falling asleep. In all my life, this was the most boring contest (especially 2nd half) I had witnessed from a Tier One nation, let alone from the World #1's.

Max gaming Le Bail Barret was off the ground in mid-air inches from grabbing the ball. French player was still on the ground a few foot below barret. Players must use discernment in these situations - am I really going to steal the ball off barret when he is in the air with his fingers on the ball? No? then clear and wait for him to land. As a result barret was pushed in mid-air causing him to have a potentially life threatening injury landing on his neck/back. Barret failed his HIA test and it is unclear as to what/when in terms of injury and recovery - this poor discernment made by French player is very costly. When you get paid 200k+ salarys to play rugbh you're expected to make these judgements.

They rule now on your chances versus the other guy’s, & you can’t judge that yourself without situational awareness. A quick look & he’d know he either has to jump and contest or concede and pull out. The game’s changed, tackling has too 🤷🏽♂️
rukaks you're right. In this case Fall was running along looking up at the ball the whole time. He jumps slightly at the end but he couldn't have known that Barrett was going to leap into the air and clatter into him. I can accept that current interpretation favours the guy in the air but I'd argue that Fall was in a position to challenge for the ball. He just didn't jump. I seem to remember a pivotal penalty being awarded to the lions in NZ when sinckler jumped into a tackle and the defender was penalised for taking him out. The law needs changing.
