- One of China's most prolific and accomplished figures, award-winning actor-director Jiang Wen brings his latest action-epic, Hidden Man, to TIFF 2018 as part of the Gala Presentations programme. Long before he was known to most Western audiences as Baze Malbus in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jiang starred in Fifth Generation art-house classics. He then made the move from leading man to director in 1994 with In the Heat of the Sun, a coming-of-age story set during China's Cultural Revolution. In 2000 Jiang was awarded the Grand Prix at Cannes for his second film as a director, Devils on the Doorstep. Despite the film's critical success, Jiang was banned from making films in his native country for seven years, after which he directed The Sun Also Rises. In 2010, he released Let the Bullets Fly, a record-breaking box-office hit in China and the first instalment of a loose trilogy that reaches its conclusion with Hidden Man, which has been described by Jiang as "Hamlet in Beijing, and Bruce Lee navigating Casablanca."
Jiang Wen takes the Glenn Gould stage to share insights into his creative aspirations and his love of cinema, and to discuss his trajectory from acting in art-house classics to directing blockbusters that are tailor-made for the largest film audience in the world.

Jiang Wen is a Chinese actor and director. He studied at the Central Academy of Drama, China. He has acted in dozens of films and is the director of In the Heat of the Sun (94), Devils on the Doorstep (00) which was awarded Cannes’ Grand Jury Prize, the Festival selections The Sun Also Rises (07), Let the Bullets Fly (10), and Gone with the Bullets (14). Hidden Man (18) is his latest feature.

Cameron Bailey is the Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival. He is responsible for the overall vision and execution of Festival programming, as well as maintaining relationships with the Canadian and international film industries. Toronto Life has named him one of Toronto's 50 Most Influential People four years in a row. Born in London, Bailey grew up in England and Barbados before migrating to Canada. Before taking up his current position at TIFF, he was a Festival programmer for 11 years, and a writer and broadcaster on film. He has presented international cinema on Showcase Television's national programme The Showcase Revue, and has been published in The Globe and Mail, The Village Voice, CineAction!, and Screen. Bailey has curated film series for Cinematheque Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, and Australia's Sydney International Film Festival.

关于翻译的问题，做过现场翻译的人应该有这样的经历，译者不会过早就有机会和客户见面和沟通，有些甚至只能在上台前才有机会简单沟通，更不用说姜文这样的大导演；其次访谈节目追求受访者即兴反应产生的效果，所以译者是不会提前知道主持人的提问。这位女士在翻译过程里，对姜文导演作品英译都用到了官方译名，显然有做过功课，而且大多翻译的比较准确，但是在阐述个人经历的时候，有些涉及文化差异的部分，如果能在意译之后在稍作解释就更好了。现场翻译对人的要求很高，需要高度集中的注意力，更何况需要保持长达一小时，让我比较佩服的是这位翻译的记忆能力：在没有任何手写笔记的情况下，也能在姜文做大段阐述后从头开始理清逻辑，真的很厉害，每个人都可以试着模拟这个场景就能明白
支持，翻译很棒！不用笔记的才是高手。
但這個翻譯太多「hm...」「這個」⋯ 之類的口頭禪⋯ 很煩，轉得不乾不淨⋯ 似自己和人聊天⋯ 不是翻譯正常的節奏。
姜文永远是国内最牛逼的电影人，前两部已经让他在国内影坛不朽了，后四部各种形态，让恨他的人更恨他，喜欢的人更喜欢。

语言的障碍导致实质内容并不多 相比于内地的大量访谈，但作为TIFF放映后讨论形式感很强

Such a strange interview. With the translator in between, who completely drags down the pace of conversation, Jiang Wen's constantly not answering what the interviewer is asking, but sidetracking to something hardly related. Feels like just chit chatting, not exactly informative.

翻译表述确实是能够表达原意，这个最重要。但说话卡顿也是很大的问题，无论中文还是英文，这女的都会卡顿，应该是个人的毛病或者习惯
