Will it grow if i placed it in dirt without any rooting powder?. I just did it today! Should i take it out and let it dry?.

Hi..it should do fine with or without. Just keep it humid and about 85 dagrees....and no full sun. Have fun!

Thank you, many videos do not show the potential of rooting in water. You have given me hope.

very informative. I didn’t know this was possible.
Will the propagation ever produce a bulbous trunk?

Hi..and thanks. Im not too sure. I would think as the roots grow and spread, I have always given them away after a couple years. HAPPY PLANTING.

I have a 47 year old that never had pups. It has outgrown our home and has been growing on the ceiling. Can I cut the "tree" near the leaf location where the trunk is approximately 5-6" in diameter and hope it will root or is this less likely to work at this size/maturity. If you think success is possible, which of the rooting options would be most likely to succeed?...Thx so much!

Hi..So the plant I have was about 4 foot tall..and it froze and semi-rotted the base. I just jeft it and pups grew back..You can cut it close to the top and try water rooting. Either way its a 50,50 shot.New pups will shoot out of various places on the momma plant. If you have a warm greenhouse the soil option should do well. Keep in touch
      Thanks!

Also try a few pieces of the stem if you cut the top off.

Should I cut off the brown tips on the pony tail palm leaves?

It's not necessary, but if you do then use a clean cutter and remove allllll the brown parts... Nature will do what it does.

Hi. I am propagating my pony tail palm for the first time. I keep it indoors right now and it's healthy. I saw a couple of different videos on doing this. Some people have put some kind of a green powder onto the stump where they clip off a pup. Do you know what this stuff is called? Thank you

    • @propagatingplantparts8784

The powder is an antifungal to protect the wounded cut til it forms a scab of sorts. Ive heard cinnamon works great also but have not personally tried it yet.

Don’t root them in water. They don’t need water but once every two weeks or so. Use FAST DRAINING soil. You can find the commercial cactus mix and add an equal portion of sand and perlite. If you cut them, yes please air them out like he did and I saw he put rooting stuff on it. I’m gonna get that too.
If you can keep it in a pot and bring it inside when there is a freeze snap, that would be awesome. I’ve seen them HUGE in Hawaii. If it isn’t in the sand then it’s in a pot outside the home. Anyway, the plant can’t handle temperatures less than 40 degrees so keeping it in a pot is smarter.

Hi there. I was wondering if there is any recent update on these palms?

It is a 40 year old plant. I wonder if it can re-root?

I'm in South Florida and my ponytail palm is over 6-feet tall at this point, and about 15+ years old. But when I noticed her leaves going in all directions, I found tons of babies growing underneath. My parents knew so much about gardening but aren't here anymore; so your video is a huge help. I know of Root-tone and the Pearlite, so I will pick up what I need to try and root cuttings. Thank you for the close-ups showing how to trim them and prep the cuttings too!

Thank you- great demo and teaching! My issue- I HAVE a 20-30 year old ponytail, but always grown indoors as my climate does not permit outdoor in-ground planting. My question is: is there a way to make the palm produce pups? Mine 😊has a huge “foot”but has never had pups. Hope you have time and know how I might do this. My inclination is to scar a part of the trunk to see if that would force a pup. What do you think? Anita

Mine fell off its plant stand in a storm and a stalk broke off. I’ve never propped a ponytail palm (this is my first one). It is much smaller than your TREE! My stalk looks about like the second one you cut off. It was left out to dry overnight. Based on your video I’m going to pull off any leaves that don’t look good, put some fertilizer on my soil, and plant it in my kitchen window until Tuesday. Hope you had good results!

Thank you so much for this video…exactly what I needed to see. I have 8 babies rooting in an inch of water (in a glass) on my mantle. I do not have a greenhouse. I am changing the water every week. Do they need to be more in the sun? I am 3 weeks into your process. I am excited to see if they root. Any suggestions?

    • @propagatingplantparts8784
      @propagatingplantparts8784  Рік тому

HI. That's great. The water doesn't need to be changed that often and if you were to put the near some light, not in the sun heat they should do well. Remember humidity is your friend.
