  • Hearings and other state business have come to a halt Tuesday as the State Capitol works to fix an internet outage.
Among the work affected are hearings on legislation about capping rent costs, community health care workers and a bill about funding for low-income women coming to the state for abortions if their home state does not allow them.
At the Housing Committee's public hearing on capping rent costs, hundreds of people have signed up to speak.
The public hearing reconvened around 3 p.m. Those signed up to speak in person or virtually in front of the Housing Committee had been waiting since 10 a.m. to participate in the hearing.

What do people think that rent would stay the same when food prices going up, house prices going up… don’t you think rent will go up!

Are you paying $40 for a gallon of gas or $20 for a loaf of bread? That's the equivalent of what most of these low-life landlords are doing. I understand inflation, but gauging is unacceptable.

Ok this segment doesn't really touch on this but before covid my rent was kinda expensive but the building was ok. Now it cost more and the building is in terrible shape w/squatters sleeping in the stairs using the hallways as a bathroom.

If they stop raising the taxes in houses, rent will be affordable. Drop the property taxes prior to cap the rent for landlords and problem solved.

Rent increases and not one landlord wants to make repairs that are needed, they’re stiff-arming their current tenants and their new ones inherit the previous issues with no resolve. They’re slumlords at this point. There is no way rent should rent should be as high as it is with zero amenities and zero landlord responsibilities. On top of that you’ve got out of state “investors” from places like nyc driving the prices up to where blue collars can’t even afford to look for a new place that should be cheaper than their current unit.

Raise the rent but you can’t pay it. So as a landlord why should I pay your rent? I am already paying taxes, insurances and maintenance and expenses. So, renters should be forced to buy homes 😂

What did you think would happen. Renters didn't have to pay rent for a year. We now know how easy it is to shut down the country. What are landlords sapose to do when they have to pay a mortgage but the renter don't have to pay. The law regardless of what most of the comments will say is stacked agents the landlords. So it is what it is.

Not everyone has the resources to go to school. Not everyone was born into money. CT is a white state so it works against the lower/middle class unfortunately.
