  • In this video Dr Kaufmann provides an introduction of what led her to start studying aging and the process that she used to develop her 7 tenets. She then goes through the tenets explaining what each one is. She uses the analogy of a factory to show how the pieces fit together.
Sandra Kaufmann, is a cell biologist who for the last seven years has been the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. She is also the founder of the Kaufmann Antiaging Institute and the author of the book The Kaufmann Protocol: Why We Age and How to Stop It. In the book she describes the mechanisms of aging on a cellular level and the best supplements to slow down its progress.

I like the 7-categories. it makes more sense than 9 hallmarks.

Hi Weimin, thanks for your comment. The grouping does seem to make more sense. And I really don't think that telomeres deserve their own category.

Hi thanks for your comment. I guess the tenets are fairly stable over time. I hope that the rest of the interview will provide some novel information.

It seems what she's doing is working, she looks energetic and have a clear mind.

From reading her book, she's very focused on nutritional supplements and has a whole protocol around using her list of supplements that she likes which can be helpful. Her information on rapamycin is based on old cancer / organ transplant information which is not very relevant to rapamycin for angi-aging. Other than that issue, I recommend the book.

She mentioned in the interview that one of the major categories of aging was the pathways and of the three main ones, MTor was one of them. I guess that counts as a Rapamycin mention...

@@jefflittle8913 Yes - that is true. Her book, which I have, was published in 2017 (so probably written in 2016) - so the information is a little dated, especially the part about Rapamycin. Perhaps shes more up on the rapamycin science now. Either way, I'd rely more on an MTOR/Rapamycin focused researcher like Matt Kaeberlein for information on rapamycin and not her.

Hi Thanks for sharing and good to see that you liked her book. We do talk about rapamycin a bit later in the interview and her opinion of it is still that it has risks associated with it and is not worth taking.

@@ModernHealthspan Yes - I'd listen to Matt Kaeberlein more on rapamycin as he's much more of an expert in that area, and has much more experience directly in clinical studies with rapamycin and mammals.

I'm pretty certain I watched an interview with this doctor. She is interviewing George Hamilton of all people. Worth checking out. George is following her protocol and is very impressed with the results.

I have both books and my own long term listing of key studies. I think it's time for book 3 with combinations of supplements for boosting results.

I'm a rock climber too, so to me, your guest immediately established tremendous credibility. It's a sport that requires a lot of physical and mental strength.
I will have to listen to this again to hear Dr. Kaufman run through the categories. My initial impression is that she has just organized things I've already heard of. And am doing things to address. I have upped my sublingual NMN to 3/4 gram every morning, and can tolerate it without a headache. Also taking berberine about once every 4 days on rest days from exercise. (for MTOR/AMPK) I've done two Fisetin flushes, copying the Mayo Clinic protocol, and plan to repeat this every few months. Telomere shortening is an issue, though. The Hayflick limit marks the end of your lifespan. I am using gotu kola for this, once every few months. Maybe a long shot, but its a powerful activator of telomerase in vitro.

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing. I think that her categories are a different grouping of the 9 hall marks of aging but cover the same areas. She has spilt them up differently. I like the way the Dr. Kaufmann has organised and used a very methodical way of rating the supplements and ensuring that all the areas are covered. We will get more into this in the next two videos.
