he was taking off. it looked like his headwind turned into a tail wind thus the reduction in vertical speed (watch the VSI) it seemed to me he noticed the change a little late thus the crash.
Usually anything below 1000 ft AGL can end in disaster hence the term impossible turn.. it’s due to the amount of altitude lost in the turn and the rapid decrease in airspeed due to induced drag on the wing.
Just curious, on the engine fire & failure, why didn't you turn towards the highway? Do they literally want you to continue exactly straight ahead, not looking for the best reasonably option within glide distance? I would take the highway over the hill
