If someone doesn't know, Minecraft, since 1.3.1, always runs your game (yes, even on singleplayer) on an internal private server. This change was made so both singleplayer and multiplayer don't require different code bases, and also allowed mods to be compatible for both SP and MP. (I might be wrong, it's very technical stuff.) Essentially, you actually don't play your world like any other singleplayer game. You "join" your singleplayer world as the game hosts it like a server, except it's just for one player (you). This is why you have ping even on singleplayer (visible on F3), and this is why Minecraft singleplayer is plagued with various desync issues, previously only being encountered on multiplayer. (buckets glitching, slower/inconsistent chunk loading, mobs stuttering on slower machines, ghost blocks, hit lag, etc...). You can even be kicked from your "singleplayer" if you spam the commands too much, or if the game things you shouldn't be flying - kick for "flying", just like on multiplayer.
