- I hate disposing old batteries. I feel bad for the environment and despite buying good branded alkaline batteries, many factors like shelf life and storage conditions determine the strength of your power cells.
Rechargeable batteries have a higher upfront cost, be it the charger or the batteries. Considering you can recharge them multiple times before they expires, it is somehow greener especially if you have young children with toys or devices that require batteries to operate.
This Nickel Metal Hybride (NiMH) battery charger from Energizer is one of the many brands out there. I chose this because of the compatibility with the typical household battery needs. You can charge AA, AAA, C, D and even 9V batteries.
The device is not without its limitations and downside. Personally, I find the main limitation is with the charging status indicator and that it is 3x higher priced than a typical battery charger that is sold with a battery pack. The charging status indicator only shows green when charging and blinking green when there's a faulty battery.
I wish they can have more colour indication to the battery power status, which in the end I bought a battery tester from TAKIT to complete the battery kit. It is also useful for testing 1.5V button cell batteries which are commonly used for children books and watches.
Does the maximum compatibility worth the premium price or is it better to get separate chargers for different sizes? Don't get me wrong, it is still a decent product made by a reputable brand. The question is if you can afford the space for multiple charger or if you want one that can charge most batteries.

gracias por el video. no sabía el significado de la luz al parpadear. el par de pilas tipo D son costosas, y cuando quise hacer la segunda recarga comenzaron a parpadear. ahora las golpeé un poco y dejaron de parpadear y se mantienen en luz verde cargando.

Hello there! Thank you for sharing your experiences. If I remember correctly I didn't talk about the blinking light in the video because I didn't have any bad batteries to show it. However I referred to the manual and it does say it is the error message for bad batteries. I downloaded a pdf on the energizer batteries from the official site and it says charge cycles can vary between 2 to 5 years depending on how much usage it is subject to.
Once again, it is indeed expensive for the rechargeable batteries but in a long run, it is cheaper and more ecological than buying alkaline ones. Cheers.
When I put the rechargeable batteries into the charger I get a solid green light but after about a minute the green light begins to blink. I have tried a number of different batteries (all new) and it is the same thing. I have tried plugging into different outlets and made sure that the plug is securely installed. Is there anyway to reset the charger?
Hello there, thank you for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear that you're having the blinking issue with the charger.
From what I know there isn't any way to reset the charger and based on what you mentioned about having the same results despite trying different new batteries, which I hope they're NiMH ones, I think you may have to reach out to the store you bought the faulty charger from for an exchange(within their return policy period).
If not you'll have to contact Energizer directly for its lifetime warranty.

Hello there! That's a good question. According to Energizer, the batteries should last up to 5 years or can be recharged up to 1500 times.

Hi Dylon, I just bought it, after a lot of thinking and comparing. Call me dumb, but, just look at each battery seat for AA and AAA: it looks like there is enough room for placing one battery over the other.

@@dyloncai two round metal circles do not make sense. I just tried to do that, I will tell you what happened: the green light turned on, as in normal charging, and then after a while it turned off. Which I found normal since batteries were supposed to be full.

Prices for rechargable batteries have increased alot since. I've purchased 16 AA at 25€ in 2021 and today in 2023 the same pack is 50€..

Fun facts for you guys here, that 1.32v on an Ni-MH AA or AAA is actually it's proper full charge; if not an overcharge. For alkaline pile batteries, 1.5v is the target, but these rechargeables hold a nominal (in-use) voltage of 1.2v. It even says this on the side of the battery itself.
With today's small electronics that chew through these frequently, such as digital display radios or handheld gps systems, they typically come with settings for you to tell it the type of battery used, for it to show an accurate charge level reading.
While they hold a lower voltage, the AA Ni-MH variant can push out up to, or more than, 2.5x the amperage that an alkaline can, thanks to its low internal resistance. I know this because I got bored and tested it with a clamp meter and some short copper wire: Short circuiting, new AA energizer industrial made 8 dc amps before slowly plateauing, and the freshly charged energizer recharge 2300 made 18 dc amps before instantly burning my hand.
Capacity wise, the Ni-MH AA can vary greatly by their manufacturers advertising from 1300 mah to 2450, whereas an alkaline can hold from 250 mah to 3000 mah judged by it's price scale and branding. The UA-camr Project Farm has multiple videos independently testing and showcasing the differences between many of the options.

That is a good question. I just tried with two different branded batteries. The 850mAh batteries(orange colour) from Auchan shows a blinking green light. Another set of 300mAh(green) from VTech charges without problem.
I tested the Auchan set with a battery tester and one did not indicate any charge, probably the faulty one. I reused the one that worked with another Auchan battery and it charges fine with solid green light.
I would suggest testing your batteries with a battery tester if you can. I didn't have to test with another charger, but if you do have access to a different charger, you can verify the "faulty" batteries if they do charge.

I got a used Energizer CHFC2, it has lid cover and indicate one for each slot and no problem see the indicate from far away and bright room. $8 us dallar with 8 Energizer recharable batteries thrift store here in Southern CA USA. So far seen to works good.

Hello there, yes there are plenty of rechargable brands out there. Personally I use mainly Energizer, I do also have rechargables from Ikea and some I savaged from old devices. Hope that helps.
I need help I want to buy this but I only have £22 pounds do I I have about 36 rechargeable batteries AA some 600mah and 400mah and 300mah and 9v 280 mah and I really needed a changer for my 9v and aa batteries but I cant get enough money to buy it

It's cool what you're doing with your experiment with batteries. The one thing I feel is that if you keep your lights on to charge your batteries at night, you're using energy that isn't free unlike the sun's energy.
@@dyloncai but I did it because I could only change up 8 at time with my battery changer and so I needed to wait 6Hours for my 1200 mah battery and then 600mah batteries will take 3 Hours and my 300mah battery will take 1.5 Hours to change up and my 400mah battery will take 2HOURS so I have lots of rechargeable batteries
