One of the great joys in life for a musician is to find an artist you had not heard of a week ago, and find a group of songs that give you shivers. Thanks Cory, let me know if you need an east coast sax player.
Cory's explanation in the video description doesn't say what the bass represents. I didn't know I needed SNBS music (strings 'n' bass solo) in my life.
i keep coming back to that bass solo, not only does he shred, 3:18 is just about the most gorgeous bass lick I've ever heard I'm going to learn it immediately
I will never find a song that is as emotionally endearing and compelling. Cory, you captured magic. I remember hearing this when it came out, and I can’t believe that I’ll ever forget it. I really can’t put in to words how much love and care I hear and feel from it. To you and everyone who made this recording happen, you all made something really special. Nothing I’ve ever said has been as heartfelt. Thank you.
Every time I request drummers to play this, they get absolutely floored and moved by the end of it. Thank you, Cory and Co for this beautiful masterpiece!
My favourite thing about this tune is that I felt like I knew what it was about before you released this video with the description. Incredibly powerful instrumental storytelling LOVE YOU CORY x
I first heard "Ellie" on Spotify and images of a cold and clear Christmas night in New York City is what came to mind...then I read the description for the live version with Metropole Orkest on Cory Wong's UA-cam channel...the power of music.
Merci, merci, merci.... Les larmes aux yeux.
when Cory told the story behind the song, i was like... oh man soo true and obvious. its became one of my favourite song, and every time i can't stop thinking the little Ellie sleeping peacefully in the rushing world. Thanks Cory
The guitar blends very well with the orchestral texture - both are audible, neither overpowers the other, and the overdriven tone fits right in with the stings and piano. And while that seems a small point, in the real world it's almost impossible to do. The guitar tone will sound like an ugly wad of gum thrown at a painting, or it'll be super-clean with no guts, or it won't fit in some other way. This fits, and sounds right and inevitable. It reminds me a little of John Barry's "Theme from Midnight Cowboy" and other Sixties movie writing .
Cory - you and your associates have reinstalled my faith in the music industry. I too have been catching up on soooo much material over the last few months. I am thankful a system has been developed where I can pay you for your art. I have purchased downloads and will be heading over to pre-order the next album. Rock On.
Lewl given how many thousands years of experience scoring stuff Vince Mendoza, Cory Wong and Metropol combined have, this comment is so absurd, but yes, you're right!
We need to figure out who the ONE jackwagon is that clicked thumbs down. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a missclick.
Yeah I agree, and the mix is irritating too unfortunately. Can't hear the guitar at all until the solo; and the bass (although a cool solo) is mixed too high during the solo. Other tracks from the same concert are mixed really well, so it's weird that this one is off.

same thing just happened to me!
Ellie is so beautiful. It makes me think of laying on the grass on a beautiful clear, sunny day, with no cares or worries in the world.
My wife and I were sitting second row, sniffing our tears away.
What a beautiful song to write for your daughter. How lucky she is to have you as her dad!
For real! Wonder how he can play this without bursting to tears in the end. 🥲
C'est le plus beau "je t'aime" que j'ai entendu.
...The role of ‘Dad’ is played by the guitar...
And the role of "Awesome bass solo" is played by Seth Tackaberry.
The strings and drums represent the chaos and the piano represents Ellie 😊
@@skierpage Listening now - killer stuff!

@@robjobse8860 Yeah he was one of the finalists for BBC young jazz musician, I have friends at his music college and they all say he's insane
The solo sounds fretless. How's he getting that sound?
This song is so beautiful and thrilling... had it on repeat for 3 days.... then I come here and read the description..... daaamnn

I would say Cory speaks to us personally through his music and takes you on a little trip - in a most eloquent way - beautiful!

Seriously beautiful work, Cory. I'm extremely touched.
I love your album - heard it a several times already. Really great music 👍👏🙏❤️
This is really great, man. I imagine it as the score to the cathartic end of a movie.
underrated
Thank you for giving us a peek into a vignette of the life of Ellie.
I think this is the most beautiful song Cory has created. Glad he put the back story in the YT notes.
