in a zombie apocalypse, people like these who live in poor countries and are used to hardships will be better equipped than those from the rich world used to comfort and most of all lacking basic skills in everything from agriculture to even basic usage of tools. What craft? Do you know that people who makes lead acid batteries are tested for lead every three months and they are supplied with free milk to drink. Never mind the sulphuric acid they breath when they fill the battery with 64% distilled water and 36% pure sulphuric acid. Also when making those batteries I did not see them installing a separator between plates. Also the posts are soldered/welded together to connect, it did not show in the vid, who knows how reliable these batteries are. These poor folks are working in the most dangerous conditions without proper clothing or respirators. I pray for them.

Poisoning by lead, Mercury, etc only happens if it somehow works its way into your system in a large quantity, handling or exposure by itself is not dangerous, only if you inhale powdered lead or stick a large open wound in a bag of powdered metal or somehow eat a big spoon of metal does it become dangerous, unlike poisonous gases you really have to work hard to get metal poisoning.

This was standard practice even in the west during the early lead acid battery days. Early car owners could buy moulds to cast new terminal posts onto their starter batteries if they were to be damaged. Hands on skills were much more routine and labour was a large component of the production process because it did not have any real capital cost like an expensive machine.

What is the clay substance they smoosh over the lead grate toward the end of the process? Without firing it it seems it would just dissolve in battery acid/water unless it was fired to make a ceramic. But if it was fired the lead would melt out of it first.

Apparently that yellowish/red substance are lead oxides, mixed with diluted sulphuric acid to form a paste, the plates with the paste are "cured" then assembled.

Don't get me wrong : those guys make good things with the tools they have. But when you look at the conditions they work in and how they work. First of all : personal safety and health are not realy a concern. And the environment is neither. We get a fine when we throw a paper on the street or our car is to old and doesn't meet emission standards. What's the use in us trying to safe the earth when you see this ??

That’s easy for you to say. In the West, we take this stuff for granted. These workers probably know the health risks, but they still do these jobs because it’s the only thing they have. They barely make enough to ends meet for their families, let alone to buy the proper safety equipment, and modern tools.

@@المرتدالفخور It is 101% not the choice of those workers to work in these conditions. but I mainly reffer to the environmental issues. And I know it's not the workers who go over that. But you can not but shake your head and think "why am I sorting my garbage as a maniac while the half of the world still works in these conditions with absolutely no regards towards the environment?
