Funny how Battlefront 2 was the only one that they actually “did better” after launch, but then they killed support for that right when player counts surpassed launch numbers so they could cook up slop with 2042.
Bf1 was great early on when they fixed nade spam and toned down the bullet deviation mechanic. Much better launch than bf4. My only issue overall was premium maps splitting the player base. Those maps were amazing but they died shortly after release because most players just buy the base game. They should have made them completely free after bfv launched.

A DLC that is merely an extension (a long one in this case) of the original game, should be in a DLC category. DLC that is a completely different game, set in the same universe (see Fortnite to Fortnite: Save the World, or Undead Nightmare to Red Dead Redemption) should be in a game category. This should be in a DLC category, not a game one.
3 is by far my favorite, but BF1 and BFV absolutely should not be slept on. Those games created an incredible atmosphere (especially BF1) and with phenomenal gun play (specifically BFV).

It makes sense given how important they are and how much they add to games, Shadow is as big as many actual entire RPG's, going back to something like the Bioshock Infinite DLC's they were practically a whole new sequel, there's more than enough justification for such a category

I think "expansions" should be allowed in game of the year. If a DLC is large enough that it can be considered a major release, which I think is the case with Elden Ring's DLC, I think it's fair to consider it. For smaller DLCs, something like Nuka World, I don't think it should get a nomination. I don't think you need hard rules around it, just allow expansions/DLCs into the category and if an expansion is significant enough to deserve recognition, then it can get nominated.

There should be a Best DLC category. There's enough released over a year to fill a list and it'd throw shade on those games where an expansion is just a new map or two and some skins.
I think the problem with Shadow of the Erdtree isn't just because it's a DLC nominated for GOTY, but it requires you to play through alot of the base game to even access it. So Elden Ring in reality is taking a GOTY spot despite already winning.
Dlc shouldn't be considered a separate game. Because you access them through the base game, it's a shorter gameplay hours, and you can't buy them without buying the base game first.
2:23 No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk left a legacy of "let's release the game and then we'll fix it" that is annoying. That's why I like Rockstar, because they spend a decade before releasing a game because they want to have the best response when it comes out (after all, the shareholders are not joking when it comes to RS). I'd rather pay a lot for a game that is 99.9% ready and revolutionary than one that will have several patches over the course of a year or more.
Maybe they have learned from past mistakes and that’s why they are drawing a line. This channel is my only source for gaming news so idk if they have done some scummy dlc practices in the past.
I think Luke Stephens said it best. DLC and remasters shouldn’t be considered for GOTY as by its definition, it’s not its own game. Remasters shouldn’t either as they don’t inherently overhaul the original game. Remakes is where you could make the argument for. Recent remakes such as Persona 3 Reload, RE4 and silent hill completely overhaul the games foundation, appearance, gameplay etc. The only issue is if remakes are nominated for best narrative, as the majority of the time the story remains unchanged and is often written by someone not even in the development team anymore.

It’s bad enough that Microsoft gobbled everything up. Also, they promised to make these studios better and I actually had hopes, especially for the devs that were treated like garbage at Activision Blizzard but what did they do? Closed a bunch of studios (Tango being the worst example) and laid off a lot of people. Imagine Sony miscalculating and FromSoft closing as a consequence.
Honestly, sony and Microsoft currently buying up every single parent company of these development teams in existence is already horrendous for the community.

In the sort term, we'll get a lot of games that were primarily driven by suits and market research, long term, it will probably spawn the next generation of independent studios.

If nothing else, being able to hold on to my blasters during traversal in Outlaws and not dropping it every time I climb a ladder is a HUGE improvement. Saves me from having to send Nix after them every single time. Or you forget you dropped it, go to wreck someone with a sniper rifle, and realize you only have your sidearm with the rifle a hundred feet behind you at the bottom of the last hill you climbed...

Starting to build my first ever pc and I am very excited. Just got everything ordered and I'm going to have some friends help me build it during Fall break. I have been around Battlefield since Battlefield Bad Company 2 and I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that every single Battlefield game had a rough start.
Yeah but 2042 stood out more considering something as second nature like a scoreboard was not present showed how long the game was being cooked (of course the store always worked)
Yeah but 2042 lacked the most basic stuff and needed 1 1/2 years of changes to feel somewhat OK. Battlefield 4 was really rough and unstable, but after 6 months almost everything worked perfectly and they actually added new features later on. Night operations, community map, 60 and 120hz servers and a ton of Easter eggs.
@ Battlefield 4 was probably my favorite game all around. Rough at the start, for sure, but they end up being good games in the end. Too bad because they loose a huge chunk pf potential players with poor initial reviews.
I never played Outlaws before the patch (coincidentally bought it the day of) and I have to say I am really enjoying it! If you're a star wars fan and / or enjoy games like Survivor or Ghost of Tsushima you will most likely appreciate what it has to offer. I was aware of the issues at launch and am happy to say the changes really make the game feel a lot more functional. That being said, the combat is still not nearly as involved as the previously mentioned games but the background stories and rep system makes up for it IMO. I'd definitely give it a 8.7

The “forced stealth” didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would, I actually found myself enjoying the challenge - but on the smaller quests it will be nice to just saw “screw it” and shoot my way out when I want to without ruining everything.
Waiting for stalker 2 to get some updates before jumping in. A DLC shouldn’t be nominated for GOTY, it should have its own category. Hopefully it would incentivize developers to put more effort into them, rather than packaging a new “story expansion” that is really just bug fixes
Not an ad or anything but I own like 6 pairs of Vessis from stormbursts to casual sneakers to winter boots and they're all great. Wouldn't recommend the winter boots for deep winter as the treads aren't as grippy on packed snow/ice, but their summer and fall shoes are amazing
I just hope that the next battlefield game has a campaign and allow you to play multiplayer with bots offline because the previous battlefield games didn’t have bots like battlefield 2042 had bods, but you still had to be connected to the Internet like call of duty allows you to play multiplayer offline with bots
Even the original Call of Duty Black Ops had the option to play the multiplayer offline with bots. We should be able to do it now with BF4, BF1, or ANY other multiplayer game. I'm looking at you to Fallout 76.
That's the strangest thing to want, I mean regular multiplayer is a waste of time for someone who doesn't have much spare time, but a pure multiplayer mode with bots is like actively punishing yourself and throwing time away

I just don’t like the fact they have to be connected to the Internet to play it. I know call of duty black ops 6 you have to be connected to the Internet to play the whole entire thing which is kind of bad even the campaign I do like halo infinite it’s pretty good it’s pretty cool that you can play other people‘s maps that they made, and you could create your own, which is pretty cool
I'm just mad Phantom Liberty didn't make the cut for Game of the Year last year, thus never allowing Cyberpunk to ever have a chance at the title despite it being game of the generation for me personally.
@xevious21 you choose your characters background and instead of playing through it, it just does some montage/flashback... then the biochip story of whatever has no good endings unless you complete some side quests. How about making those side quests known to be related to the story ending? All the combat was nonsense.
I don’t care for Battlefield 6, the old games are still active and we got THE FINALS, that’s made by the original DICE team. They can’t be trusted, I don’t believe BF6 will be good after Brokenfield 2042.
Battlefield black ops/ zombies. Make a 100 v A.I. zombie waves on a huge map. You have one life, and you 99 players have to survive for a certain amount of waves or complete objectives
"Hurr durr grow up. Forced stealth sections good because am stealth gamer." So we're just going to pretend that the all time great stealth games punished players for failure by just having to repeat the same section until you get it just right and memorize enemy patterns? No. The best MGS games punished your poor stealth by making you a squishy human, where if you fucked up your stealth, you suffered the consequences via firefights you were likely to lose but still had a chance to bring it back around. Splinter Cell, same thing. The stealth in those games is honestly significantly better because the punishment is far worse, and you can't just rely on memorizing what enemies are doing, because once you fuck up, that's it. You'll often have to repeat an entire chapter, not just a checkpoint from 3.5 minutes ago. The stakes are much higher.
Because Ubisoft doesnt exist anymore. This is Ubitrash. People make a company and Ubitrash doesnt have people from Ubisoft. It only has useless dei hires.

I'm currently playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint. I know it wasn't well received upon release, but I'm having fun with it. The game has great graphics that have aged very well. It's not the best game of this genre but it's definitely fun.
It's crazy to me that devs don't playtest the shit out of multiplayer live-service games. The entire point is creating gameplay that feels so good to play that you keep doing it basically forever, so you're obviously not going to have spoilers you're trying to hide for something like that (and if you do, you're doing it wrong). I see things like Baldur's Gate 3 that have such a written, distinct story doing years of early access and becoming some of the most successful and/or best games in their genre, where spoilers would matter a lot more, supposedly, and it just boggles my mind that games where the focus is on having gameplay so satisfying that players get (for want of a better word) addicted don't refine it up to the last moment with constant feedback from the people who will be actually playing the game.
Ea needs to learn this recipe , battlefield is detail , story mode and no hero shooter , it’s what brought everyone. After that they can release a polished game , not another disaster
I know Ubisoft doesn't really do modding but they really need to open up the modding to Star Wars Outlaws. Make it easy to mod and customize and people will flock to it.
I personally think games like Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2 deserve a spot. Huge games that have grown significantly from launch, not to mention SM2 growing 40k interests 10fold. Helldivers 2 is still growing, yea there have been hiccups, but the game has great gunplay and gameplay, the loop can get repetitive, but it still deserves its chance. DLC should not be on GOTY list. We need a DLC category, as well as a Remake/Remaster category, so all remakes/remasters go together. Black Myth has my vote, havent played it as its not my cup of tea, but you can tell its a great game from its gameplay.
Regarding the GOTY nominations including a DLC I think it depends on the DLC, cyberpunk 2077 comes to mind. I'd seriously consider their Phantom Liberty DLC worthy of a GOTY nod.
I personally don't think Elden Ring should be considered. If you could play the game stand alone then I'm ok with it. The fact you have to play a good chunk of Elden Ring, beat a boss and access it through a way that is not very easy should not put it on this list. I also feel Silent Hill 2 should not be there for narrative as it is just a retelling. Give 1000xResist more love. Also really enjoyed Stellar Blade and wish that was recognized. Astro Bot is my personal game of the year. Love the content as always
We stopped taking TGA seriously the year that LOUS2 was nominated for everything. I remember people hating that it got GOTY, but that wasn't the issue, the issue was that it was artificially made the biggest hitter in every category so it could rack up awards. They're paid awards, just ignore them and watch the Gameranx video the next week to see what was announced.
There was a glitch that prevented a trophy earning collectible to be picked up in Star Wars outlaws that was patched today. Still very buggy but I’m glad the updates are improving the game. I love Star Wars and the story was quite good, very unfortunate that the poor quality of certain mechanics and excessive glitches tainted the potential greatness of this game.
I think if Ubisoft wants to make it so you don't have to stay in stealth instead of progress being reset you can shoot your way out is not a bad thing. Personally, if this was the case from the beginning I would have kept playing to see the story. More options for players is usually a good thing. If you still want to stay in stealth the whole time you can.
Been loving the hell out of metro awakening and I'm absolutely buying that alien game. First time turning around to see a lurker mid leap scared the hell out of me. Can only imagine seeing a xeno bolting at me
Shadow of the Erdtree definitely should be on it's own category, I don't take the Game Awards too seriously but counting it as a full game certainly feels wrong. Anyway, FFVII Rebirth is my game of the year, I don't care what anyone says

There should be a Best DLC category. There's enough released over a year to fill a list and it'd throw shade on those games where an expansion is just a new map or two and some skins.
I think the problem with Shadow of the Erdtree isn't just because it's a DLC nominated for GOTY, but it requires you to play through alot of the base game to even access it. So Elden Ring in reality is taking a GOTY spot despite already winning.

Dlc shouldn't be considered a separate game. Because you access them through the base game, it's a shorter gameplay hours, and you can't buy them without buying the base game first.

2:23 No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk left a legacy of "let's release the game and then we'll fix it" that is annoying. That's why I like Rockstar, because they spend a decade before releasing a game because they want to have the best response when it comes out (after all, the shareholders are not joking when it comes to RS). I'd rather pay a lot for a game that is 99.9% ready and revolutionary than one that will have several patches over the course of a year or more.

I think Luke Stephens said it best. DLC and remasters shouldn’t be considered for GOTY as by its definition, it’s not its own game. Remasters shouldn’t either as they don’t inherently overhaul the original game. Remakes is where you could make the argument for. Recent remakes such as Persona 3 Reload, RE4 and silent hill completely overhaul the games foundation, appearance, gameplay etc. The only issue is if remakes are nominated for best narrative, as the majority of the time the story remains unchanged and is often written by someone not even in the development team anymore.

Also, they promised to make these studios better and I actually had hopes, especially for the devs that were treated like garbage at Activision Blizzard but what did they do? Closed a bunch of studios (Tango being the worst example) and laid off a lot of people.

Honestly, sony and Microsoft currently buying up every single parent company of these development teams in existence is already horrendous for the community.

In the sort term, we'll get a lot of games that were primarily driven by suits and market research, long term, it will probably spawn the next generation of independent studios.

If nothing else, being able to hold on to my blasters during traversal in Outlaws and not dropping it every time I climb a ladder is a HUGE improvement. Saves me from having to send Nix after them every single time. Or you forget you dropped it, go to wreck someone with a sniper rifle, and realize you only have your sidearm with the rifle a hundred feet behind you at the bottom of the last hill you climbed...
Based on the Sony/Arrowhead relationship, if you're an Elden Ring fan, it's hard to see an upside to Sony acquiring From Software.
I wouldn't have been upset with erdtree being nominated if they also nominated phantom liberty.

Starting to build my first ever pc and I am very excited. Just got everything ordered and I'm going to have some friends help me build it during Fall break. I have been around Battlefield since Battlefield Bad Company 2 and I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that every single Battlefield game had a rough start.
Yeah but 2042 stood out more considering something as second nature like a scoreboard was not present showed how long the game was being cooked (of course the store always worked)
@ Reviews for 2042 were so bad I waited 2 years to purchase it.
Yeah but 2042 lacked the most basic stuff and needed 1 1/2 years of changes to feel somewhat OK.
Battlefield 4 was really rough and unstable, but after 6 months almost everything worked perfectly and they actually added new features later on. Night operations, community map, 60 and 120hz servers and a ton of Easter eggs.
@ Battlefield 4 was probably my favorite game all around. Rough at the start, for sure, but they end up being good games in the end. Too bad because they loose a huge chunk pf potential players with poor initial reviews.
I never played Outlaws before the patch (coincidentally bought it the day of) and I have to say I am really enjoying it! If you're a star wars fan and / or enjoy games like Survivor or Ghost of Tsushima you will most likely appreciate what it has to offer. I was aware of the issues at launch and am happy to say the changes really make the game feel a lot more functional. That being said, the combat is still not nearly as involved as the previously mentioned games but the background stories and rep system makes up for it IMO. I'd definitely give it a 8.7

The “forced stealth” didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would, I actually found myself enjoying the challenge - but on the smaller quests it will be nice to just saw “screw it” and shoot my way out when I want to without ruining everything.

Waiting for stalker 2 to get some updates before jumping in. A DLC shouldn’t be nominated for GOTY, it should have its own category. Hopefully it would incentivize developers to put more effort into them, rather than packaging a new “story expansion” that is really just bug fixes

Not an ad or anything but I own like 6 pairs of Vessis from stormbursts to casual sneakers to winter boots and they're all great. Wouldn't recommend the winter boots for deep winter as the treads aren't as grippy on packed snow/ice, but their summer and fall shoes are amazing
I just hope that the next battlefield game has a campaign and allow you to play multiplayer with bots offline because the previous battlefield games didn’t have bots like battlefield 2042 had bods, but you still had to be connected to the Internet like call of duty allows you to play multiplayer offline with bots
Even the original Call of Duty Black Ops had the option to play the multiplayer offline with bots. We should be able to do it now with BF4, BF1, or ANY other multiplayer game. I'm looking at you to Fallout 76.
That's the strangest thing to want, I mean regular multiplayer is a waste of time for someone who doesn't have much spare time, but a pure multiplayer mode with bots is like actively punishing yourself and throwing time away
@@cenciende9401 all the games i literally play is mostly offline single player I like call of duty multiplayer and zombies. That’s like my all-time favorite. I just don’t like the fact they have to be connected to the Internet to play it. I know call of duty black ops 6 you have to be connected to the Internet to play the whole entire thing which is kind of bad even the campaign I do like halo infinite it’s pretty good it’s pretty cool that you can play other people‘s maps that they made, and you could create your own, which is pretty cool

@xevious21 you choose your characters background and instead of playing through it, it just does some montage/flashback... then the biochip story of whatever has no good endings unless you complete some side quests. How about making those side quests known to be related to the story ending? All the combat was nonsense.

I don’t care for Battlefield 6, the old games are still active and we got THE FINALS, that’s made by the original DICE team. They can’t be trusted, I don’t believe BF6 will be good after Brokenfield 2042.

Battlefield black ops/ zombies. Make a 100 v A.I. zombie waves on a huge map. You have one life, and you 99 players have to survive for a certain amount of waves or complete objectives

So we're just going to pretend that the all time great stealth games punished players for failure by just having to repeat the same section until you get it just right and memorize enemy patterns?
No. The best MGS games punished your poor stealth by making you a squishy human, where if you fucked up your stealth, you suffered the consequences via firefights you were likely to lose but still had a chance to bring it back around. Splinter Cell, same thing.
The stealth in those games is honestly significantly better because the punishment is far worse, and you can't just rely on memorizing what enemies are doing, because once you fuck up, that's it. You'll often have to repeat an entire chapter, not just a checkpoint from 3.5 minutes ago. The stakes are much higher.
You know they said that when they drop BFV, to make BF2042… at this point we are just repeating history… (-.-;

I'm currently playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint. I know it wasn't well received upon release, but I'm having fun with it. The game has great graphics that have aged very well. It's not the best game of this genre but it's definitely fun.

It's crazy to me that devs don't playtest the shit out of multiplayer live-service games. The entire point is creating gameplay that feels so good to play that you keep doing it basically forever, so you're obviously not going to have spoilers you're trying to hide for something like that (and if you do, you're doing it wrong). I see things like Baldur's Gate 3 that have such a written, distinct story doing years of early access and becoming some of the most successful and/or best games in their genre, where spoilers would matter a lot more, supposedly, and it just boggles my mind that games where the focus is on having gameplay so satisfying that players get (for want of a better word) addicted don't refine it up to the last moment with constant feedback from the people who will be actually playing the game.
Ea needs to learn this recipe , battlefield is detail , story mode and no hero shooter , it’s what brought everyone. After that they can release a polished game , not another disaster
I honestly think stealth tends to be more rewarding when successful in games where it's not the only option
I know Ubisoft doesn't really do modding but they really need to open up the modding to Star Wars Outlaws. Make it easy to mod and customize and people will flock to it.
I personally think games like Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2 deserve a spot. Huge games that have grown significantly from launch, not to mention SM2 growing 40k interests 10fold.
Helldivers 2 is still growing, yea there have been hiccups, but the game has great gunplay and gameplay, the loop can get repetitive, but it still deserves its chance.
DLC should not be on GOTY list.
We need a DLC category, as well as a Remake/Remaster category, so all remakes/remasters go together.
Black Myth has my vote, havent played it as its not my cup of tea, but you can tell its a great game from its gameplay.
Regarding the GOTY nominations including a DLC I think it depends on the DLC, cyberpunk 2077 comes to mind. I'd seriously consider their Phantom Liberty DLC worthy of a GOTY nod.

I personally don't think Elden Ring should be considered. If you could play the game stand alone then I'm ok with it. The fact you have to play a good chunk of Elden Ring, beat a boss and access it through a way that is not very easy should not put it on this list. I also feel Silent Hill 2 should not be there for narrative as it is just a retelling. Give 1000xResist more love. Also really enjoyed Stellar Blade and wish that was recognized. Astro Bot is my personal game of the year. Love the content as always
We stopped taking TGA seriously the year that LOUS2 was nominated for everything. I remember people hating that it got GOTY, but that wasn't the issue, the issue was that it was artificially made the biggest hitter in every category so it could rack up awards.
They're paid awards, just ignore them and watch the Gameranx video the next week to see what was announced.
There was a glitch that prevented a trophy earning collectible to be picked up in Star Wars outlaws that was patched today. Still very buggy but I’m glad the updates are improving the game. I love Star Wars and the story was quite good, very unfortunate that the poor quality of certain mechanics and excessive glitches tainted the potential greatness of this game.

I think if Ubisoft wants to make it so you don't have to stay in stealth instead of progress being reset you can shoot your way out is not a bad thing. Personally, if this was the case from the beginning I would have kept playing to see the story. More options for players is usually a good thing. If you still want to stay in stealth the whole time you can.
