You might look at the dart cast heads(might also get them from Jegs or Summit with free shipping) if you don't want to spend the huge money on the raylar ones. As you said you do a ton of the work yourself so you can max out what the 203 camshaft is capable of with those heads vs the aluminum raylar ones. Only advantages the aluminum heads will have are weight and heat removal if you were going with a turbo or supercharger. Flow would come into place with the 206 or larger cams though.
Picked up a intake manifold from Raylar, but no cam. Larry said ok so he told me to get a BBK 80 mm throttle body for it. 04 Silverado 3500 SRW Xtdc lng bx. Fact. Ord. BC Canada
Smarter thing to do with the fans/switches is to run it through ba relay setup, then you can run what you want and don't overload even a cheap switch as well as not having to run that much power everywhere.

I have the cold air intake and bigger exhaust pipes w/o catalytic converters. Using the truck to haul my fam and a big travel trailer all over the US. Recommendation on which mods are most important for that sort of rig? Thanks again for posting. Helpful stuff for illiterate wanna-be-mechanics like myself!

I’m going to do a 8.1 swap in my truck and keep the 4L80E and use a shift kit to save some money. Really want a six speed or Allison but don’t want to fork out the extra money. Going to get an AAM 10.5 with 4:11’s out of a 6.0 and regear the front to keep up with 35’s. I figure an 8.1 like yours with a little smaller cam should be good to haul 12-15k lbs once in a while in a gooseneck configuration. Probably haul 4-6k routinely
Just got a 8.1, the throttle body is bad. I've tried everything to find a new one and they are impossible to find. Through research I discovered the 6.0 throttle body for the same year is identical except it has vacuum lines. Would it work if I cap those lines?
@@BurninGas8.1 is there an adapter to go from the 02 throttle body conn to the 06? My 02 has a 2 prong plug on the throttle body motor and a 6 plug flat on the throttle position sensor. The newer 06 ones has a 6 plug but it's male on the throttle body and so is the x link so it wouldn't work for my application. Love this truck. Just want her more reliable
Little confused my brother, so there's a company that sells the xlink, then I need to go to junk yard n get xlink wire adapter off next Gen chevy truck, (silverado) and only then can I run the 78 mil throttle body, ??that right? What is n where does the xlink go? Or is xlink just the wire harness running to the throttle body?
No the x link is the wiring adapter ... takes you from gen3 to gen 4 throttle body wiring... gen 4 is 87 mm throttle body gen 3 is only 78... you needa throttle body off a 07 to 11 v8 chev or gmc

@@michaelluciano3690 what is the engine your using and the year... ??? if your using a gen three motor it depends if its drive by wire or cable... my setup is wire meaning electric pedal... some aftermarket bigger throttle bodies you dont need a adapter harness... i used a stock throttle body from a 2010 gm truck and put on my 2005 but to do this i needed the x link

I had 4.56 gears in a duramax with 35s and it was horrible, unless you were racing. Would not down shift to 4th unless I was doing 60mph. top speed was like 110 115mph
Why did you decide to go with an 87mm throttle body? GM has smaller throttle bodys that may have given you the same power results as the big 87mm, but with more efficiency and less turbulents in the air flow.
I'm getting P1515 command vs actual throttle performance code when I push the throttle too fast after doing this mod. It goes in to low power mode. What are your thoughts? Fellow 8.1 monster owner
@@magicbullets45 you need to adjust your ve table about 10 percent so highlight table and times by 1.1 then go into engine diagnostics and set your maf max at 18000 hz stock is set at 12000 hz I believe that should clear your issue... make sure your intake gas kits are all tight
Well it’s listed as a cai, generally when ya put aluminum pipe on intake aluminum stays cold compared to plastic... also it’s listed as a cold air intake on eBay.... not really worth arguing over much better then a stock air box!
My question was for Jake, sorry. CAI's should be about bringing cooler air from outside the engine compartment into the engine. A person can spend less or more on this as long as the proper parameters are achieved.
My 02 2500hd with 8.1/Allison has 100k just did a tune up. Has Gibson headers and exhaust. New plugs wires. No DTCs at all and runs good but has no power. Gutless turd. My 5.3 with 250k miles pulls better that. The pos

No the x link goes from 8 wire gen three to 6 wire gen 4 ...the x link is the wiring harness adapter

You should try to get a hold of some 4:96 gears they make a huuuge difference with big tires you accelerate alot faster
4.56, 4.88, 5.11 I believe are my options and it’s in plan but motor just started squealing so we are tearing down doin a rebuild

Check wiring at throttle body and fuel pedal...what mod did you do? Probably needs some tuning adjustments

if you are spending $90 dollars on a "cold air intake" it is not a cold air intake, just a normal intake.
