@@lanasinapayen3354I’m not 100% positive don’t quote me but my teacher once explained it to us as mares aren’t usually protective of their babies around other mares, so that was maybe a simple nervous squeal while she was recognizing that it was a baby
We had a Labrador who fostered around 50 motherless kittens over a period of years. At first we thought they where only sucking for comfort but after a week we found out she was actually giving some milk!!! Couldn't believe it. Vet said: it happens but rarely. She was just born to be a mom, mothered every creature around her.
The horse I learned to ride on was this old Palomino mare who never stopped lactating, so she was used as an occasional nurse mare. She was an angel and I will never forget her. 💛💛💛
As an adoptee myself, nothing makes me cry like horse "adoption" videos. I know it's hard for them and doesn't always work, but when it does it's just pure and beautiful. Exactly how it should be in the human world, but many who adopt don't realize it truly takes a special person.
People think adoption is "child shopping" NO! It is a humanitarian act of service. First priority is ALWAYS reunification, and every adopted child lives with some trauma that an adoptive guardian MUST be willing to accommodate, even if the child didn't have any known abuse and/or was very young for removal and placement. So many people don't understand this.
Unfortunately humans are a bit more effort to raise than other species. Adoptive parents are special. They had to WANT that child, they didn't accidentally make a baby.
I never knew, people called this 'grafting'. I've only ever heard it called 'fostering'. How amazing, that the mare actually starts lactating after a while, though. I thought, you could only do this with a mare, that had been pregnant and lost it's foal. What a good mom!
@@heatherduke7703 That's a possibility. I didn't consider it, but I'm pretty sure you can induce lactation with hormones and the two week time frame makes sense.
Lactation can be induced in non-parturient mares that have foaled in previous years using a treatment that includes estrogen, progesterone, and a dopamine D2 antagonist (sulpiride or domperidone) [2,3]. The initial treatment protocol for induction of lactation in mares consisted of a 2-wk treatment in which progesterone, estrogen, and a dopamine D2 antagonist (sulpiride) were administered daily [2,4]. Mares were milked 1 - 2 days after the start of sulpiride treatment, and in some experiments, milking was continued after the end of treatment [2]. The results of these studies clearly indicated that lactation can be induced in mares that have foaled in previous years. Perhaps the most encouraging observation was that when regular milking (6 - 7 times/day) was continued after the end of hormonal treatment, milk production continued at a constant rate for 7 or more days.
I have heard that this can happen (keyword can, I’m sure it’s rare) in humans as well. I’m not sure the ins and outs of it, whether hormones are needed or not but I do remember this used to be a ‘thing’ back before vaccines/modern medicine where babies would die often and when a mother would lose her child she could nurse another baby or something and even during slavery as well. Only if they have previously had their own foals. They will give the mare shots of a medication that makes her start producing a full supply of milk again. Like they said, the foal will still need to receive some milk replacer, sometimes short term, sometimes they need it the whole time because the mare may not produce the full amount needed or it may not be the best quality to help the foal grow, but the social skills they get from having some form of nursing and interacting with a mare is so important.

It keeps flies from biting their lower legs, for some reason flies will bite their lower legs more than any other place. The flies, besides being painful, they can cause infection

AHH POOR BABY. THANK GOODNESS FOR THIS NEW MOMMA. XOXOXOX
Awesome outcome
Something about the foal resting against a stuffed unicorn really got me. I too find immense comfort in stuffies, little horse
Took a hour and she adopted him ❤ amazing. Horses are exceptionally caring!!
I didn't know horses get leg warmers 💕
Her eyes 👀 when the foal was being weighed 😂
Glad they became a match.
It’s to protect their legs in case their back feet clip their front feet, also just keeps them cleaner and prevents things like thrush or bug bites on their legs.
@@snakesonaframe2668 Cool. Thanks.
i think they’re called boots. and yes they’re to protect their legs.
It keeps flies from biting their lower legs, for some reason flies will bite their lower legs more than any other place. The flies, besides being painful, they can cause infection
The way mom was looking at the fouls weight on the scale ... omg too funny!
What a great story !
I noticed that too 👁️👁️ 😮 😂😂😂
Just like a human mom when they take baby to get weighed at the clinic. 😂
Bless this wonderful Momma.🫏💖🎚️
Horses 🐎 are such amazing, heart-felt creatures. I love horses🫠💕🐴
Beautiful story thank you for sharing ❤️ 🙏 blessings to you all 💞 😍 🙏
Aww 🥰 good mama horsie, that’s so cool that their milk can come in just by adopting a baby 😅 that would be handy.
right!! I didn't know that was a thing... nature is so cool ☺️
Humans can do that too
@@tom-ss2mn that make sense 🤔
@@tom-ss2mnNo she’d just had a baby before. She said she’d been a good mom before
@@tom-ss2mn Well yeah, after a while, females don’t produce milk so they have to get it started up again, probably by suckling attempts
A happy and beautiful story. Thank you for sharing what you all do to care for these beautiful horses ❣️
Beautiful people who do beautiful things❤. Thank you
The way the foal follows mom around like a little shadow is amazing.
I’m so impressed by that mare! Everything she does in this video just shows how intelligent and confident and put together she is, even the way she walked into the trailer. You are so lucky!
Historia conmovedora y ADORABLE ❤❤❤❤
The pure trust that baby animals have in us is incredibly heartwarming. We don’t deserve such pure and innocent babies 😍🤩
I’m so glad for the happy ending ❤
That's wonderful...some mares won't...this baby now has a much better chance of being a good healthy baby and have a much better mind set...
Oh sweet baby
I just LOVE horses. They're much more intelligent than people give them credit for!! They know when you're down, up, whatever! And their calmness is really good for the soul.
How absolutely adorable is that baby!?! Omg I just want to cuddle with it and shower it with as much love as I could possibly muster. What a great mare accepting an orphaned baby, I hope she is a good Mom to that little one.
I’m literally sobbing, what a beautiful bittersweet story ❤
As a retired Lactation Consultant, I’ve worked with a couple of moms who adopted & attempted relactation. It is possible but takes much time & determination!

Yes, I read this when I was pregnant...MIGHT. have been "The New Mother's Body Book" ...which as a new mom was a wealth of information. I was shocked but after nursing my own, it makes sense.
@@TK-ij2xi****🌺Sorry, are you saying that a human being can also recreate this lactation process whether pregnant or not, or having stopped nursing your own baby and all of your milk has dried up already?? I didn't understand your statement, sorry. 🍼***
@@yvonnesumrow4195 I believe this is possible in some circumstances...
@yvonnesumrow4195, absolutely possible. Retired Nurse.
The baby was so happy. You can see it in the body language. So lively and full of energy after the mom accepted. So adorable.
I pray the little horse gets better. Thank you for taking care of God's creature 😊❤
Gorgeous New Mom and Baby !
Thank God!
Thank You to All of You !
who was the first person to figure out a halter could be used as a foal harness. So cool. Sweet Mom.
I was gonna comment on that too! Very cool idea. I never would have thought of that. 💜🐎
Animals can teach us many things.❤
And they lived happily ever after..🙏❤️🙏🥰🥰🥰
