I at that point COMPLETELY understood all of Norn's feelings. I already saw where she was coming from, but she was legitimately scared of him, on top of hating him.
At first, she simply hated him. And then, as time went on and they meet people who legit look up to Rudeus (Ruijerd, Roxy, Ginger (to a lesser extent), etc.) a dysphoria happened to her. Not at the point of fear yet, but when Ruijerd left, she realized she no longer have anyone to rely on. Then the argument with Aisha happened (Rudeus actually told them to stop in a tone that scared her). That is when she started actually fearing him. She started thinking that since everyone's praising Rudeus, that even if he did hit her, nobody will take her side.

Yea, it was the disconnect between how she viewed Rudy & how everyone else viewed Rudy that really messed with her head. It invalidated her feelings, made her question her own grip on reality.
You must read the LN, I didn't pick up that extra info about Rudy's tone, but I got the gist of it from the statements she made.
She needed to see that Rudy could be loving, and gentle, because her only impression of him was violence & anger.

When someone wrongs you, or you perceive that they've wronged you, but everyone else loves them, it makes you question if you're actually the douche.
It's a soft gaslighting, because it's unintentional, but can still easily send someone into a depression. It makes you start wondering, what's wrong with me that I can't get along with this person everyone else loves.

Love the DUAL meaning to the episode's title. My Older Brother's Feelings isn't just about Rudeus's relationship to Norn... the parallel to his past relationship to **his** older brother from his old life, makes for a title of such a beautiful **thematic** layering.

Honestly imagine being norn your brother is : strongest student in the best school, a legendary adventure , one shot a demon king, has connection with the princes of the strongest kingdom, 2 princess of the beast people, grandson of the pope, princes and blessed child zanoba, demon king, survived orstred, got a eye from demon empress (there probably more stuff) since you can remember everyone always praises him. How do you live up to that

@@xenobazilla Any lesser mage wouldn't be able to do anything at all. Even Sylphy still struggles with combining multiple spells at the same time. Which, this is a higher level. And Sylphy along with Rudy are the two known silent casters in the world (well, outside of WPs).

sadly the anime didn't live up to the novel, but it wasn't too bad so i'm satisfied.
@@deadline6149 It couldn't, the Light Novel and the Web Novel didn't have as much creative limitations as the Anime. It's unfair to put it to that degree since the Mushoku LN is an absolute Isekai Masterpiece. I thought the Anime did well, it sent enough of the messages across despite the fact that it has to rush this portion in order to get to the end of the Saving Zenith arc.

@@im_ramu Season 3 won't have as much limits, considering Part 1 would mostly just be regular life plus Atoferatofe arc, and then Part 2 would likely be TP4. Season 2 had to rush through a lot of the details, and they're keeping just enough important stuff.
Rudy's approach to this is probably one of the better ways to help someone who's going through some shit (whatever that shit might be). Don't offer solutions, platitudes or advice, just offer to be present.
yeah, because i've been there i know that feeling. Sometimes when you are at your lowest you don't really want to hear advice etc even thou that is probably right. In that condition what they really need is really just be there, let them know you are there.

@@syzler8664 i mean even if the advice is logical and right in that condition you would still not in the headspace to listen to it. In Rudy's case i would even go as far as sue every single classmate of him and the school, sadly it was Japanese school so nothing probably would happen

Rudeus trying to be a good big brother
A shame they left out the fact the the brother that was trying to help was the same one that punched him in the second episode of season 1

It isn't the same. His brother hit Rudeus with a good reason, it was funeral of their parents and Rudeus was watching real lolis in his room.
Glad this wasn't included in the adaptation then, because Rudeus's reasoning in this context doesn't make sense. One reason is what the other commenter said, and another reason is that Rudy was a grown up male at that moment while Norn is still a little girl. She wouldn't be hit like that imo.🤷♂
@@Accomplish305 not sure if your a novel reader but i was mostly paraphrasing, in full rudues was thinking if he was more like norn, maybe he wouldn't have degraded into what he became, maybe the brother that tried helping him woundn't have hit him

Btw did anyone(who didn't read the LN) think Rudy would be like he is now, after the first season?? Also its a shame so many reactors left the show, not only does it seem like there is less stuff that would've made them stop watching, but they nerfed some of the other stuff(like Aisha being a flirt).
I like how the issue solved even if Rudeus doesnt know what actually started it but he knew hes responsible in some way and choose to stay whether Norn will talk about it or not. Its a common "tell, dont show" trap sometimes to just lay it all out

I don’t know if it was a manga specific thing but there it was only when Norn saw Rudy’s face that looked so scared and vulnerable about not being able to mend things with her did it start to occur to her that he isn’t a bad guy which was similar to what happen with Paul
This happened in both the light and manga, the anime completely changed things Norn still sees his father in Rudeus but Rudeus starts talking and doesn't shrink as much
Man I wish we got the face Norn made in the manga that panel was so strong.
I mean when Rudeus asked if he could stay, the line near his mouth, the way the eyes were drawn, he looked pretty beat up about it. But yeah different mediums, different results at times.

16:56 but the thing is, if you think about it, rudeus pulled up to his sister classroom is actually 'mission failed successfully'. why? because if he talk to her first, he most likely going to assume that someone bullies her and he will keep asking that until norn pissed. just like rudeus before reincarnated, he kinda get pissed, his big brother keep talking that he got the 'brother could never understand'. now, because he cleared that norn never got bullied. the only thing he can do is to just come to her, let her sort her mind (but rudeus definitely doesn't know that what he's doing is right so that's why after a long wait, he stand and tried to say something, good enough that actually clears her mind even better)

I wonder if it’s because of how codependent Norn has been that she was more accepting of Rudy wanting to be there for her. In his case, he shut himself off and wanted nothing to do with anyone, even when they tried to be as patient, kind, and careful as he tried to be with Norn.
Adorkable was really into just watching this episode lol. Sometimes the story just sucks you in and then it's over before you know it. But there's always a lot of feelings to sort through after an episode is done.

I’m confused by what was said in the beginning about outrage and Norn getting what she wanted quickly versus Aisha having to take the entrance exam. What’s the outrage and is it coming from you guys or the comments or from Aisha?
Is there some sort of test you have to take to live in a dorm? A child not wanting to go to school despite a letter saying she must seems like it warrants the child proving it by taking a test. Norn just wanting to live in the dorms while she attends school seems like a pretty normal thing and nowhere in a letter was it said that that wasn’t allowed? Seems like two completely different scenarios. Norn’s performance on the test was never tied to her request to begin with either.
Aisha's request was to be Rudy's stay-at-home maid instead of going to university. Rudeus told her that he would allow it if she aced the entrance exams. His reasoning was that if she could ace the exams, her current level of education was probably sufficient.
However, Aisha's interpretation was that having her request granted was a reward for doing well on the exams. Therefore, she felt betrayed when Norn's request to live in the dorms was also granted, even though she did poorly on the exams. It seemed to her like preferential treatment, which is what she's accustomed to after living with Zenith's mother.
@@UltraStarWarsFanatic exactly. From Aisha’s perspective it makes total sense that she would freak out because she’s a kid and doesn’t understand those nuances and, yes, she’s gotten used to fighting an uphill battle back in Millis so she just made an assumption.
I was just confused who they were referring to at the beginning of the video. I lost track of what their own perspective and thoughts were on that situation.

It seemed like there was some outrage in the comments of the last video. I guess commenters felt that these three completely missed why Aisha had that outburst, or were simply too callous/dismissive toward Aisha's point of view and circumstances. So their opening remarks in this video were a summary of those commenter's clarifications ("from Aisha's POV, it looks like this...").
It seems they understand why Aisha reacted the way she did. I think their perspective is that the situation is tough because what might be the right choice, may be misunderstood by a younger child. Overall, it seems like they agree with how Rudy handled the situation, and they point out that sometimes the "good kid" will act out when faced with what they see as unfair treatment.
Hope that helps clarify what the pre-discussion was about! It was less discussion and more "recap" of a difficult scene which the commenters were concerned they didn't fully understand.

It’s probably due to the limitation of how long an episode lasts and I hate to be that guy but, LN did it better. This scene hit that much harder when I first read it I had to
