I've never had a problem with repro, unless someone is trying to pass it off as original. And by "pass it off" I mean selling it as original.

I think the figures I'll be getting will be Luke, Leia, Chewie, Han and the stormtrooper. I already have a vintage Vader so getting another one wouldn't make a whole lot of sense, but maybe I will just to see if there are any noticeable differences.

The problem as I see it is that there are too many people within the pro-reproduction camp that seem vehemently opposed to common sense measures (such as producing items in a different color of plastic or having a clear "reproduction" stamp) that would help mitigate that fraudulent activity.

I can't see a problem with them. They have been doing it with transformers for years. Same company making the same toys they did before. Hardcore Star wars collectors hate pretty much everything anyone does that is not how they collect. So they will always be upset. For everyone else it's a nice cheaper way to get some early figures that have recently been priced out of most people's ranges. Especially Leia.

Would have made more sense to put these out in 2017; easier to mobilize the fans behind an "anniversary" marketing hook with vintage-style commercials, etc. I will buy these in a heartbeat! Blue Snaggletooth anyone?

Don't worry because all of the over priced ORIGINAL vintage figures are going to lower in value to how they were before the Force Awakens was released. No more loose, beat up Dengars for $28 on eBay. Thank the maker!

I made a comment two years ago until I just deleted it just now. Retro collection is okay it's not the greatest; kind of like checking the oven cooking something that's going to be cooked thawfuly. (Example a pizza for instance) I like retro collection it's not perfect but it's stand alone plain sustainable. Yeah I guess Hasbro wants to get the collectors back into star wars but they don't want to just do it for collectors they want to do it for the kids who want them no matter the cost how much it will pay through the noses of millions just to get these figures.
I've already collected the Mandalorian action figure assortment. I've got all them. I've got:
Mando; Cara dune; greef carga; ig 11; Kuill; Gideon & grogu.
I also have some of their Esb retro's:
Hoth han; lando; & Leia hoth who I use as an extra rebel soldier because I have hoth Leia from the solo line.
So I gave her a different name. At first she was named "genine" but then I changed it to "Jas-Farr" to be a direct tribute to that hoth girl in the both inside echo base running communications & all. Extras. The name "Genine" didn't sound good so that's why I changed it.
Along with most of the other characters I own like: the hoth soldier being named: "Woods" then Cassian endor in eadu disguise being named: "Garrison" based off detective garrison from the warriors video game. That I played a lot when I was younger; & then the rebel commander being named nick named commander officer sergeant Bill. Garrison was originally supposed to be named Bill but I gave that name to the commander because I got confused with the names & I was collecting blank fill ins at the time & yet only I have a day & half left till I receive prince xior & dash rendar & Luke Skywalker endor & Leia endor & Fx 7 & rebel commando endor & droids three pack that used to be target exclusive. I'm going to love these new guys.
& If retro collection return of the Jedi comes out & they give a gamorian guard I'll pick that up for sure & maybe another Emperor if they do make one.

I'm all for these figures. All I've ever had of the original toys was an original Han and a Stormtrooper both without weapons, because I'm younger. I'm all for it.
But I'm not going to pretend these are carded Originals, no, I'm going to tear these open and display them as figures that I like.

Unpopular Opinion: I can not wait for these! I don't care if they only do this wave or if they do them all... The fact that they're giving us a Grand Moff Tarkin is worth it! He will literally be the first new "Kenner-style" Star Wars action figure since the end of the "Droids" and "Ewoks" runs in the mid-80's... I for one hope this line goes on forever and expands the original line with new figures, like the Tarkin one...

I think its great!... Ninja Turtles were re-released, Transformers were re-released . now if they make re-realeses of the last 17 it would be great for those who dont want to spend a fortune. I would buy them just for the repro weapons as originals can go for more money then the figures... there should be zero worry from collectors if in fact they will have a 2019 stamp on them

Exactly ! Also, I saw a video in which some Hasbro representatives stated that they will have the 2019 date stamped on them. mattel is doing a pretty great job all in all reproducing the old WWF hasbros at the moment. awful distribution issues which is making the hunt a lot less fun but they’ve done a pretty solid job blending old with new while giving a nod to the old collector/custom market by making Iron Sheik, Kane, Sting and rumors of a Diesel later this year

im talking about toys that have already been re-made with vintage molds or new toys that have copied old styles. When placing a price on vintage toys you have to remember its now in the resale market. All things to consider are Condition in or out of package, Complete with all parts and accesories Rarity is it common or hard to find, Popularity and Demand... there are lines more rare yet got for less as not as popular..plus movie tie ins or new media make older lines more saught after. (example the old cartoon ghostbusters toy line went up in price before the female ghostbusters movie came out...even though it did not do as well as original and now the market has came down a bit) you can never base a toys worth off of a single ebay price... all these factors have to come in play then you make an "average" price on that, but things change all the time

Honestly POTF2 and POTJ era is mostly all i collect. It carries a powerful secondhand store nostalgia for me that i just can't get over. I was never bothered by the beefy action poses, i was just thrilled to have all my favorite characters. I was born in 98 so flea markets were packed with these figures cheap by the time i was old enough to discover star wars at 5 or 6. I bought hundreds, and i have recently started re collecting them. Its fun to find my old figures heaped in old boxes and get figures online now that i could never find then. Buying loose i usually spend about 16 dollars a week for 2-3 figures. Its a cheap and sayisfying way of collecting, and i love it! They're sturdy and stand well and there's a uniformity to the line that pleases my inner virgo perfectionist. Love the videos man, watch them all the time!

Won't buy any of the six repros because I have all the originals I want (mostly) but I WILL but the Tarkin/board game set. Because I have to have a Tarkin on that classic card. That being said, I'm also a collector of 12" GI Joe and when Hasbro did repros I was SOOOO happy - because I could have the items that I could not afford otherwise to add to my collection. So, to all the fans butthurt about SW repros... Sorry. It lets people have toys they have always wanted, at an affordable price. Supply/demand.

I didn't grow up with the vintage Star Wars toys so I don't have that nostalgic love for them. However I have a lot of respect for the vintage line and the huge impact it had on the toy industry. I think that this retro line is probably gonna be popular with my age group. Guys / girls who love Star Wars and want the vintage figures despite not having them because they probably weren't even born yet and for what ever reason are unable or unwilling to get the actual vintage figures. That's just my opinion. Great video as always retroblasting.

I've been collecting "The Vintage Collection" for some time, and I have to say that after the original "Vintage" series, it's my favorite series. The sculpting and painting are just great.
I'm not at all surprised that figures from the Vintage series are being reissued, because the figures and vehicles of the original trilogy are still the best sold.
Even though I see it similar to Michal that the retro figures are a technological step backwards, I will still get them, simply because they remind me of my childhood.
And no, Star Wars and the movies aren't just for kids... Which child should pay the moon prices of merchants and shops ;)

I have to say, I just heard about this today and it made me unbelievably happy. I grew up with Star Wars (I saw it for my 5th birthday) and lived and breathed the toys until I got into junior high.... and I had EVERYTHING. Then when the Power of the Force line came out in the '90s I bought all that too. Unfortunately I had to sell my collection when the economy was in the toilet and I was strapped for cash about 15 years ago and my soul was crushed. Within the last year I've been trying to get it all back, and I was shocked at how expensive the true vintage stuff was. I always thought to myself "Why cant they just re-release the original molds of characters like they did in the 4-pack collection?" Well now they are, and I hope they do it all. Serves all the price gougers on eBay right! My only gripe is that the new packaging looks artificially weathered, and I really would like to see crisp and clean backer cards without a big "Retro Style" sticker on the front. Oh, and the fact that I'll probably never see any of these because of Hasbro's crappy distribution practices. But I'm gonna try, dammit! Gimme more!

Why are they doing it ? They are a business and they want to make money. There are people who like vintage who are happy to pay $10 for a fresh brand new reproduction. Calling this a cash grab? Yes, that is the purpose of being in business. Selling things people want and making a profit. Vintage price have gone thru the roof and I for one am out of the market as I’m not paying these prices - I’ve had enough. I am a collector, not a speculator. I want affordable vintage or vintage themed stuff I can afford to buy. I’m glad this is finally happening.

Collectors late in the game and those older fans who want their collections back without paying an arm and a leg for them, have been asking for official repros going on at least a decade now. I would love a "new" Farmboy Luke Skywalker myself, because my Dad had a puzzle that contained the earliest product catalog inside and the original 12 were featured on the first 2 pages. Being 8 years old I had no idea how old these movies were, how long out of production those figures were, and how expensive a Farmboy Luke was/still is! So to see this finally a reality, is a godsend!

Look now Tarkin is coming so I think its going to be a mix of reissues and figures we never saw before. Maybe a Rebel trooper is next.........I see no numbering on the back of the cards so it won't matter what comes out first

My 2 cents! First, while I love vintage more because that is what I had when I was a kid, I also love the Power of the Force 2 era. Sometimes I feel like I am the ONLY one who does :(. Second, I WELCOME this upcoming vintage line. I am not wealthy so I can't afford $200+ figure that is carded. This is something I can afford. I am TOTALLY fine with OFFICIAL repros.

I’m not a vintage collector. I’m not really a Star Wars collector. I grew up in the golden era of modern Star Wars toys, when the quality really went up around 2007 with the legacy collection all the through the vintage collection.
The thing I remember most about those toys were that they all had the same quality (for the most part anyways). I forget exactly when I became interested in vintage Star Wars stuff, but I watched many videos over them, even though I knew I’d never get any (which is probably why I find your guys’ channel so entertaining, also with the humor.) the last figure I ever got was a black series snowtrooper, and I remember saying to myself, “Why is this guy more expensive when a year or two ago he’d be the same price as these 5poa pieces of junk?” And I just found myself never buying another figure since Hasbro kept making more 5poa, and the 3 3/4 in figures with the articulation that was standard throughout my childhood just got to be too expensive for me.
I know when they did TVC, those were slightly more expensive than the average figure, but I didn’t mind because I collected the card backs (still got them in my closet, tried taping the bubbles on their back lol) and it was the only way to get certain figures since The Clone Wars was still really big. When Disney came along, the prices just went up and you got so much less bang for your buck (I still buy Lego Star Wars and am appalled by what they throw out and how high the prices are compared to before the Disney buy.) Seeing this video really is the final nail in the coffin to me as a former kid who played with action figures. It’s sad to think that Disney isn’t just allowing Hasbro to do what they had been doing since The Legacy Collection in order to “give fans what they want” with this reproduction line.
I don’t really remember where I was going with this comment anymore, but it’s a shame to see Hasbro reduced to what it has been since the Disney purchase. They used to be God’s of the toy aisle. When you would be able to walk in a Target or Walmart and see at minimum 2/3 of an entire aisle filled with Star Wars now only at 1/5 or 1/6 of the size. And the selection the stores have are pitiful. Still stuff from Rogue One and TLJ I can walk a few shops down from a store and get the same 6in black series figures for $5. I don’t know why Disney can’t grasp on how to make Star Wars products (also looking at you EA video games) but they just can’t.

This is my opinion, there are thousands of thousands of examples of action figures out there of every line. If you collect simply for the joy of having toys from your youth, or reminds you of your youth, or a continuation of your youth than you will always be happy buying toys. If you collect only to worry about the monetary value of your collection that you worry that Hasbro releasing a vintage looking reissue that some random parent in Target sees while their kid is in the toy aisle and says “hey I used to have that, let’s get it” then you need to get over, and invest in something else.

I’m really excited for these and hope they are priced well and that I can find them. My father had many figures back in the day but sold them as a teen. I’m excited to hopefully buy these for him so he can relive some childhood and I can finally experience the figures I’ve watched you guys talk about for half a decade. I don’t think these will affect the value of the originals too much. The people spending a lot of money on the vintage figures will still be spending a lot of money on them. The hasbro figures will have ever so slightly different paint colorations and plastic colors and some people will still pay for it so no worries for the people that don’t want their collections entirely devalued. Starting the line with rereleases is a good idea for me. First you get people in with the figures they had as a kid and then with the figures they always wished existed as a kid. I understand the frustrations with hasbro not making new good quality figures but I’d rather have this than a dozen Rose Ticos (literally) hasbro should be making new good quality well articulated figures but I’d rather have a nostalgia trip than whatever garbage they’ve been making since they went back to 5 POA. My only problem is that they will probably be poorly distributed, priced, and already are intentionally making a figure exclusive. Luckily for what I want the figures for it isn’t one of the original figures but intentional exclusives are still the bane of my existence.

Pretty simple fact, Hasbro has ZERO obligation to maintain the value of your collection.
In fact if you're keeping these figures to sell at a later date Hasbro sees no profit in that which makes collectors the competition. I saw people cry over the SNES classic and it's "de-valueing" of EarthBound and saw people crying over the "de-valueing" of G1 Transformers with the new vintage Wal-Mart line. Guess we'll just watch people cry some more over Star Wars instead of enjoying what they have.

Great analysis! As someone who has all the original vintage figures carded! Heavily collected in the early 90s and then getting into modern also... the POTF2 stuff though pretty awful was fun to collect at the time. You are very right in saying that carded vintage Star Wars and loose graded has jumped up in price since 2015. For example carded ROTJ figures like Klaatu and Nikto were easily affordable before 2015, now such figures are quite pricey! Even loose graded figures have tripled in value ( eBay). Gentle Giant issued 12 inch jumbo vintage Star Wars action figures: knowing old school fans would buy them. Hasbro clearly realises that vintage card backs have a very enticing appeal to collectors of all ages. Just look at the prices of the vintage collection carded figures on the secondary market. Also Hasbro must have noticed that the likes of Super 7 have issued retro style figures ( Alien, Star Trek and so on) and want to get on the nostalgia bandwagon. Take the example of the Princess Leia Organa blaster, the original has a greenish/ blue tinge and a specific texture and quality. Repros may capture the look of this weapon but often the colour is off and the plastic is not the same! Also vintage collectors are well aware of the float test. Since 2015 Hasbro has released quite a lot of awful products that have languished in stores for a very long time. Hasbro are well aware that these new movies have divided fans, more importantly kids are not into physical toys like we were many years ago. So will this new collector line be as cataclysmic as many fear? I doubt it, more than likely it will raise the status of the original vintage as this was the real deal! I think the new collector line will sell well and will do very well on the secondary market? Any way Keep up the good work 😎

  • @Tedshinn1
    @Tedshinn1 5 років тому

Thanks for the video. Let me say a note about quality: I was a kid who played with Star Wars figures and GI Joe, and a variety of other various figures growing up. Star Wars was always my favorite movie and toys and I kept my entire collection. Now, if you play a great deal with any toy eventually the arms and legs will become loose, and eventually very loose. GI Joe was cool in the poses and things you could do with all the articulation, but when they got loose they were very bad, and with loose joints you just could not do anything with them. Star Wars was awesome just because it was star wars, but very limited in the poses. However, from a strictly quality standpoint, the line of Captain Power and the soldiers of the future figures struck the perfect balance of pose-ability and durability. They had movable arms and legs like Star Wars figures, but also had bendable knee and elbow joints. This is the best balance I feel. I don't need 300 points of articulation, but having movable arms and legs with bendable knee and elbow joints lends itself to the best play, and even if they have very loose joints, they are still functional, unlike GI Joe which looses all functionality once very loose. The Captain Power figures would almost never be in an unnatural pose, but I could put them in cool action poses. I often wished that Star Wars figures were made with the same quality as Captain Power figures which, in my humble opinion, are the gold standard of action figure quality. I don't care much for sculpted figures - they are cool for display only, but not for play. Figures should be able to be played with, and I should be able to put them in my own pose if I want, and they should have the right balance of durability to last. The toy company should just focus on making a great product and let the rest sort itself out. Then everyone will buy them and everyone will be happy. Just my two cents.

Hopefully it can be changed before the main release, but I fear it might be too late in the day. I have no problem with these, as an educated collector would easily be able to tell these apart from the original, especially when they are on card. The figures themselves will be stamped with 2019 dates, so no confusion there. The only potential issue could be the weapons and capes, but once again, I'm sure the production techniques used on these will make them relatively easy to distinguish from the originals. The Vintage collector nazis need to quit with the vitriol! These figures are NOT going to threaten their 'Investment' There will always be collectors out there willing to part with coin for the originals at those crazy prices (or at least as long as that generation is still alive). They also need to stop telling people how and what to collect! I collect both vintage and modern for enjoyment NOT investment. If people want to buy repro, let them do it without shaming and shouting at them! Collecting should be first and foremost about fun and these people completely suck the enjoyment out of the hobby!
