Yes. They are pretty awesome to watch. The funny thing is despite the song lyrics, they aren't field artillery and don't have caissons. They're 10" or 12" coast defense guns in disappearing mounts. The recoil of the gun firing pushes it back down below the rim of the fort to make them hard for approaching ships to target and easier to reload. The crew then raises the gun back to its firing position and then rinses and repeats.

This was propaganda. Nothing has changed. People aren't boxed in by a centralized authority anymore. And they are naturally splitting apart. The concensus you remember was artificial. People only knew what their local newspaper told them. When radio came along nothing changed. Same with TV. But the internet... the internet was truly different. The United States hasn't been a union of independent states since the Civil War. The fed has been maintaining this charade through sheer force. But the Fed did not create the United States, the United States created the Fed. They're going to have to reckon with that fact at some point or risk implosion. The centralized authorities; alphabet soup, national corporations, pretty much everyone with an office in DC or anyone in commuting distance of DC: they can not nor were ever intended to represent or govern the entire United States to the degree they are. The constitution does not allow for that level of control. The Union was only meant to facilitate the cohabitation of the States not govern them. You can't grab that much power without pissing EVERYONE off. So until the Fed let go, don't expect things to cool off anytime soon.
