There is two facts about that episode we can all agree on: 1. It will be awhile before we see it ( the best things always take time to get right) 2. It will no doubt be insanely awesome ( 14 warriors plus death dealing demigod robot(not sure if he counts as demigod with two chaos emeralds but with four he certainly is))

Poor Yoshi man. He literally joined their mission with like, half the context everyone else had, and was willing to die for that cause anyway. What a hero.
PLEASE talk about this in the channel hell he said you can do a reaction to it but in sure you already seen it so idk just spread awareness of just how great this animator is at what he does
Hey whats up Omni love your vids man didn’t expect to see you here! You should totally cover or shoutout this so that way more people can see this awesome remake. Perhaps in your “Things you need to know” section at the beginning of your vids you can talk about Smbz episode 2 remake. 🙏
I really like how the story feels more thought out. The chaos emerald actually gives Yoshi powers just like all the other characters that have obtained one in the last series; Mario gets hostile towards Sonic when he finds Yoshi injured, he’s still a stranger to them and barely knows him after all. Little details that make this new series feel more developed.
@@SHSLRuby To be fair, I think if the original series kept going, we would have gotten a reason why Eggman and Bowser allied themselves. Regardless, I completely agree.
Mario's been through the 'strangers from far away claim to be heroes but then turn out to actually be villains' thing too many times at this point. Of course he's still a hero so he'll take anyone asking for help at their word, but at that point he was probably pretty suspicious of Sonic for leaving out the detail that a homicidal robot is also looking for the exact same things they are. They could have been more careful and kept to a buddy system
20:55 Starting from this point, the fight lasted about 2 and a half minutes in the original, and lasts about 10 minutes now. Based on this I can only conclude that Brawl On A Vanishing Island will be an hour long goddamn masterpiece.
I’m betting he’ll probably turn it into two separate episodes since he seems to be trying to keep each video at 30 minutes; probably at the moment Metallix shows up will be the split and the final battle will just straight up be the full 30 minutes minus the aftermath when they leave.
In the original, every time Mecha Sonic appeared on screen, you’d always feel this sense of fright for the characters because of how intimidating, powerful, and merciless he is. He wasn’t your average villain. He was a clear threat, a masterpiece. That was in the original. The reboot made him even deadlier. I can’t wait to see the brawl on a vanishing island.
I love that he did that. This episode covers EP 3 and some EP 7 material and helps this episode not feel like we have 'such a long way to go.' Plus adding new content like the Wario/Waluigi chase, this episode absolutely feels new enough to leave my hyped the whole way through.
@Ultimate Overlord Doomer(REBORN) hes always been using a gun since the og series he shot yoshi's shell with it and shot at sonic& mario in their fight after "brawl on a vanishing island"
Holy shit, the way that it makes you think that Yoshi has a fighting chance only to realise that Metallix was fighting at a disadvantage is amazing. Then as soon as the playing field is levelled and he starts using his emerald, you get a real sense of just how much of a threat he is. Masterful way to show off how powerful a character is.
Not to mention it's a great way to show off how powerful even a singular emerald is, considering the sudden spike in capabilities Yoshi gains once it triggers. The sheer scale Mark's going to have to make later fights at this rate...
@@nth_account Metallix is probably gonna destroy not one Yoshi Island, but multiple of them, considering he has city-block-busting abilities just with one emerald. Mark my words, the fight on Yoshi's Island will be huuuuge.
Something I've always appreciated about this series ever since it debuted is that, under all the crazy DBZ style fights, the pop culture references and the fanservice-y premise of a mario/sonic crossover, the tone and characters are really appropriate for the Mario world. A lot of the humorous, action-packed and dramatic moments feel like something that really could be in an official nintendo product, albeit one not afraid to do deep lore pulls. That's what always set it apart from the other mario/sonic stuff on newgrounds, which was full of blood, swearing and out of character stuff. Watching this reminds me of the old mario world comics I read as a kid, or the funny cinematics in the gamecube mario sports titles, or some of the wackier bits of the paper mario games.
At the same time, the tone is suited for Sonic as well, with some of the darker elements (particularly in the backstories) and really high stakes. Likewise Sonic and Shadow are also properly in character. SMBZ is/was a series that properly respected both franchises and made the events feel like an official product from both companies. That consistency of character and world(s) is something that a lot of the fan sequels and projects missed the mark on, such as making Mario and Luigi talk as opposed to the gibberish they speak here and in the M&L games. It was made both for and by a fan who had a genuine love and respect for both franchises, plus also DBZ. While the fights are the finest sprite battles ever made (or fights ever; not gonna lie I think SMBZ surpasses DBZ in fight choreography), there's always been more to the series than just the raw action. As another youtuber put it, "It's a story about friendship, damnit!"
Smbz was probably the first newgrounds animation that stayed true to the characters with a little bit of old newgrounds memes added to it, that’s one of the few things that’s part of it’s charm too, and also the first to not use the Super Mario World style of the Mario characters.
"Things in mirror are trying to steal your treasure" impressed me so much. Such spot on gag writing for wario really shows how passionate and creative he is about what he's doing.
Other than a few examples like the song choice in the Mario vs Bowser fight in the 2nd episode or the original Yoshi vs Mecha Sonic, I think this is exactly what drew me into SMBZ back then, even if I was only subconsciously aware of this. A lot of older flash animations stemmed from a counter-cultural desire to see darker elements in the worlds they were familiar with. Sonic and his tonally inconsistent series being the perfect host of many insanely edgy, yet charmingly entertaining flash animations for years. The divide between Mario and Sonic's fans has always been down to your preference for either consistently high-quality, yet safely branded games (Mario) or the messy and risky, yet creatively diverse ones (Sonic). SMBZ's priority at appealing to both these comforts as well as the over-the-top DBZ, sprite bash flashes evens out a lot of the strengths and weaknesses of these genres into something surprisingly accessible for traditional fans and the abridged fan-bases alike. Mecha Sonic/Metallix is such a perfect device for this tonal balance. He's far too extreme to be a villain in the Mario series and too typical for Sonic's usual end-of-the-world conflicts but having him be an invader within the Mario World's whimsical, slapstick tone brings a completely different weight that neither series could accomplish on their own. "Yoshi gets beaten and suffocated to near death by Metallix" or "Metallix achieves his super form and massacres the Axem Rangers" are ridiculous sentences and should normally fall into the tonally weightless trappings of other DBZ mockup fan animations. But it's only because the Mario World's setting and characters are expressed under the limitations of the innocuous gag-humor of Mario's brand, that the contrast feels tastefully out-of-place. It's why those earlier two sentences aren't exactly accurate to what's going in SMBZ but rather "what if a flash animation-era Sonic supervillain entered the Mario World and how would these characters handle this situation?" The animation quality is obviously a huge factor in why the series is so popular, but I think this combined with the dedication to this tonal consistency is what makes the series age better in memory and why both this and the original series are so rewatchable even amongst several Mario vs Sonic action crossovers that stemmed from it.
@@freespace2dotcom Definitely. This reboot makes the original Luigi look like an incompetent bitch and I love it. Yeah, he's a coward, but if his friends and family are in danger, he'll jump in without hesitation.
I also like how Wario and Waluigi's role has been improved upon since the original series. There they were antagonists in episode 1 but afterwards they just sort of followed the heroes around without straight up engaging them. I believe Yoshi was the only one to even notice their presence and that was once. They were audience exclusive comic relief, but here they're a threat. Not a Metallix or even Axem Rangers tier threat, but it's at least something.
@@toamatoro570 they're the Team Rocket stand ins. A threat but not bigger than the threat in focus. Though every now and then they do something to warrant the attention of the heroes.
@@strikeforce1500 I was genuinely expecting the killing blow when he gets hurled through the mountains at the end to have been caused by his tongue ripping in half instead of him just being Seismic Tossed this time. I really thought that that was coming
The fact that Yoshi was beaten to a pulp, had his face dragged across the ground, and his eyes and nose smashed, and he was still willing to fight even after losing the chaos emerald, just shows how resilient my favorite Mario character is!
@@eastxsidexswagg Actually, Yoshi still recieved visible wounds even when still possessing the chaos emerald, but even after losing it, he still survived a tremendous beating afterwards. I’m pretty sure Yoshi’s durability is still incredible, just like in the original
@@PepperonibeatsZombie To be fair, Metalix wanted him to suffer for wasting his time. Still, the fact that Yoshi went this far to protect a chaos emerald of all things says loads about his character.
@@eastxsidexswagg In Yoshi's Island, Yoshis themselves are shown to be extremely resilient: enemy attacks in general just stun Yoshi momentarily. It takes crushing or environmental hazards such as spikes or lava to bring them down.
Lost in all the comments about "wow ytoshi vs metallix is so brutal" is the fact that this series is now so unironically good. There is so much polish it's hard to know where to start. The world map search scene, the bowser's castle bit ending with a bowser's laugh fade off, the sm64 door sounds, the fact that the chaos emerald exposition was presented as an intercut with eggman and shadow instead of just normal shadow exposition.
@@silverreaps6803 Kinda. The originals were 10 minute sprite fight things, good by newgrounds standards. This is good by mainstream cartoon standards - all it needs is voice acting, and less pixelated/chunky sonic sprites for the close ups. Most of the polish, writing, etc is already there.
@@user-pi4xq1vj3s The originals were actually pretty well written by Newgrounds standards. There was more to them then just sprite fights. Though I do agree that this is a very big improvement.

@@UA-camMONNYWEST I didn't but im going to say that when Yoshi started to walk away and he heard a metal Sound you say the fear of god in Yoshis eye and I don't blame him for trying to hit the jets sad that he was not fast enough.
I just noticed that Metallix has a volume slider in his textbox, that visibly gets higher when he raises his voice. That's some crazy attention to detail.
Wow, normally a big UA-camr commenting on a video like this would get hundreds of like, but it’s only been 31 minutes, that well probably change soon. Anyways, glad to see Miss Glitchtale herself likes this series (which honestly makes _way_ too much sense).
I like how at 30:46, Metallix says he would have given Yoshi a quick and merciful death IF he had cooperated and given him the Chaos Emerald. This implies that Metallix would have just killed Yoshi for no reason after being given the emerald. Lol
@@setsers1 The comedy is a bit dark, but it stems from how Metallix ironically just gave less and less reason for Yoshi to yield but is so arrogant that he isn't aware of it. Without the death threat, Metallix is comically uncharismatic to the point where he's just convincing Yoshi to not give him the emerald by making the act of giving it the obviously worst option.
“Objects in mirror are attempting to steal your treasure” See, it’s the small jokes that makes me love this series. The fights are one thing but the humor keeps this otherwise dark series so damn endearing.
I agree with you on that. I also like the really small animations this episode offers, like with the other Koopa Bros' heads popping back at the screen. It describes their personalities so well imo.
I can't get over that bit at the end where Mick Gordon's music just starts to hit hard and you can see the constant panic in Yoshi from Metallix coming after him.
And Sonic's reaction afterwards... good gravy, so far, this reboot is handling the mute aspect of the Mario and Wario Brothers eight thousand times better than the original, and we get the allusion that other characters actually understand what they're saying. No stating every single word Mario and Luigi are saying, ad verbatim, cause that can get annoying fast.
So many years in the making to get to this point. So much mental toughness by Mark to get through this, make an episode during a pandemic, not let the negative thoughts get to him. Very admirable and shows that anything is possible, him doing this inspires many more people than you'd think.
you know that thing everyone always says about remakes, that they look the way you mistakenly remember it looking from your childhood? I've never actually felt that way about video game remakes before, but I do feel that way about this. you've successfully recaptured the feeling that made the original series fun to watch as a kid, but with an exponentially improved production value. this was absolutely worth the wait, and I'd be more than happy to wait another five years for the next episode if it means getting something as solidly entertaining and well put together as this.
facts, the way everytime metalix was on screen like being terrified of him since you know shit was a bout to go down when he came in, it felt 100X more intense in this version, super hyped for the rest and i can also wait 5 years haha
Yes he made me actually feel like I was watching a legit anime, I cannot express the emotions I was feeling when Yoshi was fighting especially when he used the emerald. It’s a mix of nostalgia and new and it’s so refreshing cause I was always disappointed about the older one being canceled like it was, regardless tho, the old had GEMS 💎 I cannot wait to see how this goes, so much detail an everything. I’m actually nerding out about this
Props on making Yoshi look like a boss while also showcasing how much of a beast Metalix is, he’s somehow even _more_ violent and sadistic than I remember
Putting in music and sound effects from 2013's Killer Instinct (specifically Fulgore's theme for Metallix) really set the proper tone. Amazing what waiting for the right time will do.
It's been a year since this reboot episode of SMBZ has finally been released for so long. SMBZ is still ahead of its time. Whether the original or the reboot series, it is still phenomenal.
It's way better than how it used to be cause it was always assumed he didn't wanna get people hurt but a lot of it showed that he was just being kind of edgy But as of right now it seems to be that he's concerned for the safety of other people's lives and doesn't want them to end up like how his only friends (Rouge and Omega) did in this series since in this canon everyone on Mobius is dead besides Sonic, Shadow, Eggman and Metallix all thanks to Metallix nonetheless
@@goldenlightning8842 Yeah the next episode is going to be Sonic’s backstory and if Metallix gave Yoshi a beating that probably would’ve killed him I’m quite scared on how brutal Tails Knuckles Amy Cream and Cheese’s death will be
I like that too. It feels more natural without taking away the more callous or blunt pieces in his dialogue. He knows the threat at hand, so it’s angering to involve anyone else to get caught in the crossfires of what he thought could have been avoided if they listened.
@@supermegalodonplatinum2278 If he works on SMBZ as a chore rather than a passion, he will burn out again. We mustn't care how long it takes. Last time fans forced him to make Episode 9, he basically quit.
I like the added content since all we really knew from the original series was that they had an alliance and that was basically it. Also first time in the show's history that eggman is actually revealed, lol.
@@SrMissileMonkey Probably, although Mark has gone on record that atleast one reason was because hiding it was super pointless anyway, since it's not like people don't know who Eggman is.
35:15 This sadly reminded me of why 2015 always felt so tragic in my mind... two absolute legends left us that year. A legendary animator responsible for arguably the best piece of fan animations ever created on the internet. And a legendary director, literally responsible for the direction that many of our favorite game franchises have taken over the years. They are sorely missed, and this can never be overstated.
@@zonalspore It's specifically final form Cooler, right? Cause I think normal Cooler doesn't have the echo in his voice, and it's also a bit lighter sounding than final form's voice.

This is some of your best work... Absolutely astounding. Been following your work since the original series, massive fan. Soooo hyped to see more. Whenever that may be 👍 However long it takes I'll be here waiting! You seriously rock dude.
I love how metallix's Expressions change as the fight goes on. Transitioning from mild irritation, to intrigue, showing off, genuine annoyance, all to that moment when he bursts from the blazing rubble, when both his movements and actions convey blood thirsty rage. Great music placements too.
It's amazing how you can show just how violent and merciless Metallix is and yet not show a single drop of blood... I believe in the comics Eggman said he installed two dominating emotions in metal sonic. Hatred and sadistic pleasure
18:34 In retrospect, maybe one of the LUCKIEST breaks in the series that Luigi didn't catch Yoshi here. This would have resulted in Luigi and Yoshi alone vs Metallix, with help not coming. Since according to Mark, Metallix beats emerald-powered yoshi without an emerald, that fight would have been a clean sweep in his favor, with Luigi and Yoshi dead by the end of it.
@@taviethestick No matter what way you put it, that fight was actually inevitable since Metallix can track the chaos emeralds and Yoshi or Luigi would have been holding one here
15 years later, and this series STILL amazes me! I’m very happy that you finally managed to release this episode, and I will forever continue to pray that you are doing okay health wise, Mark. You deserve nothing but the absolute best from us SMBZ fans. Also, I like that Super Buu vs Vegeta reference at 24:53-25:06
I can't believe it's been 15 years since the first episode of SMBZ. I do not mean the reboot. I meant the original series. I'm very excited to watch the second episode of the reboot series. This is like going back to 15 years ago where the original series had begun. Hopefully, we wish a good health to Mark.
In the original, Mecha just kinda charges an attack going like "aha u die now" but here, he's not even remotely playing around. He's actually in the midst of ending Yoshi's life in the most cruelest of ways.
The fight between Yoshi and Metallix was spectacular. I especially like how the fight didn't feel so one-sided compared to the original. This deserves a 11/10.
Holy hell, you have evolved! Been following you since the Newgrounds days and I have to tell you, your style has only improved! You have an excellent sense for writing combat scenes! Your flow and action never ceases to amaze and your sound/BGM selection is on par as it always has been! Dialogue has been sharpened for sure! You can easily see the younger version of yourself in your old writing/character dialogue, but it's a take on Dragon Ball Z, which in and of itself isn't known for *it's* best writing, but even still, leagues above where you used to be and where you used to be was a pretty high bar to begin with! I'm eager to see more of this series! I'm shocked to find out that Ep1 dropped a little over a year ago and I never knew, but I'm happy I've found you again!
It's unbelievable the amount of craftsmanship, care, and patience went into so many details in the fight. I always rewind certain parts and play it in slow motion just to take all the details in.
@@BigDirty1 In the original he did. He kinda did in the reboot, but later after he used the Chaos Emerald, he just went at him instead of trying to escape.
Words cannot express how awesome the Metallix vs. Yoshi fight was. What a brilliant way to give Yoshi a bit of the spotlight while simultaneously showing off just how OP Metallix is. People keep trying to recapture the essence of what made this series so amazing, but it's clear that even now, 15 years later, none can hold a candle to the original.
@@Sharpteeth32 I think he means no other person can hold a candle to Mark Haynes when it comes to capturing the essence of SMBZ, there were plenty of SMBZ fan animations if recall correctly.
The truth is that, comparing it with the original episode, I would say that there are things in that reboot that fascinated me quite a bit. Yoshi's fight against mecha sonic/metallix was brutal and intense. I mean, it already was in the original, but here? It's quite noticeable that you made it more epic. You improved it. Not only did you recreate the scene and make it longer than the original, but you put details into it that, while it may not be much, are a huge improvement. Also, I felt that Yoshi put up a lot of fight, and although it was thanks to the chaos emerald that he can resist a little, it shows that you got more out of him… I also liked that you gave Bowser more screen time, unlike the original series. I mean, it may not have been that necessary because, well, at the end of the day, mecha sonic is and remains the villain to beat, but still, it's good to know that Bowser will have a better participation, or at least, that's what you left me understand. The same with Eggman, who in the original series did not appear until episode 7, as a mystery, but even so, I am surprised that you wanted to include him from the second chapter. We'll see what you have in mind. With the Wario brothers, well, you also gave them more screen time, and that is appreciated. Also, I love the effect of the curtains as if this were an anime. Nice detail. Anyway, the truth is that the reboot promises a lot. I can't wait to see chapter 3 and see the recreation of the destruction of sonic's world. Mark, don't put pressure on yourself. I know you're going through a tough time and fighting your...inner demons, so to speak. I know you can get out of this, but take as long as you want. Also, with the amount of details in the animation, all the more reason to give yourself some time. Take as long as you have to. I'll be waiting here.
Very happy to see this series make an awesome comeback! :) The work done here was fantastic and it brings back a lot of memories! Looking forward to see more in the future!
The car chase feels super underrated to me. I absolutely loved the "objects in mirror are after your treasure" part; it cracks me up every time I watch that. Luigi continues to be a highlight, he actually tries to save Yoshi this time and is legit concerned for him after finding him beat up and among other things; he's shaping up to being one of my favourites even though Yoshi will always be my favourite Mario character. Yoshi actually putting up a fight this time was also a highlight. That Metallix character is something else. I was actually legit terrified of him because of his actions and those close ups made him even more chilling than he already was. I can't even remember if the original was anywhere near this level of sadistic compared to this one. I bet he's gonna be even more scary later on...
You can really tell Luigi’s been improved for the reboot simply from the fact that he can fly properly with the Cape Feather, instead of flapping his arms like he did in the original. Plus, I feel like OG Luigi would’ve been too scarred to chase down Wario and Waluigi like he did here
One thing that still bugs me, is Eggman being alive the mushroom. How did he survive the Death Egg explosion? Hopefully that gets you explained in the next episode.
So glad to see this series back, such an incredibly improvement with the animation quality, writing and everything else overall, looking forward to hopefully the rest of the reboot
Why is this animation 10x better than Dragon Ball Super? Jokes aside, this was worth the wait. The nostalgia is so much man... Thanks for continuing with this :]
You're literally comparing an animation that took a year to complete and polish to a tv series that dealt with crunch time with little to no animators to push a 21 minute episode in a week...
I love how you can make this show comical and dead serious. Including the shenanigans Luigi and Yoshi go through to try and et the emerald from the Wario Bros, and then showcasing how deadly Metallix is in the fight. It's amazing how you can switch between these sides easily and effectively.
I know everyone's talking about that fight scene, but can we also appreciate the new little touches that were added? Like Boshi's cameo appearance, or the Dash Pepper power up. Little stuff like that makes me so excited to see what'll be added next!

Mecha Sonic: Give me the chaos emerald. Yoshi: *Burps in Mecha sonic's face* Mecha Sonic: Understandable... Yoshi: ...have a nice day? Mecha sonic: *No*
Posting here again just to ensure you know that people still care about this series - we don't care how long we have to wait, it's worth it every time and we hope you're still going!
So, I would like to say that Mark does something that seems rarer more and more now a days... Make the bad guys a legitimate and intimidating threat. Like, showing off Metallix's brutality and strength like he does is just fantastic and works to make the audience ask the question of "Just how are they going to beat that?"
I agree, most villains nowadays usually 1 shot the main characters in the early stages which makes people think they are op but doesnt give an accurate representation of the vilians strength. What Mark did here was allow us to see how strong an empowered main character was, only to have the tables turned and see that empowered character lose. This gives us a ballpark guess at how strong the villian is. THIS was the correct way to represent and introduce a villain's strength. A bad example (and sorry if i offend anyone!) would be RWBY's Adam. He One shot Yang n volume 3, only for the audience to be confused on why adam was "soo much weaker" in volume 6. unlike rwby though, THIS was power scaling done right. There is no confusion here.
@@tinkerercalen1768 the only villain that is done correctly is Tyrian. He took down Nora and Ren, took down Qrow a fully trained huntsman, and many others. Sadly they aren't doing much with him
...well if we're going to go by the logic of fights... I'm thinking the angel island resistance is going to put up one hell of a fight against neo super mecha sonic, possibly forcing the next one to split in two
This was honestly something else and it’s got me hyped just like I was hyped waiting for each episode back in the early 2000’s. Seriously you’ve out done it all, and if episode 3 takes 10 years then so be it, I’ll be waiting and I’m sure everyone else will be too!
Yoshi is the series' Piccolo. He isn't the strongest of the 5 heroes but fights with smart tactics and clever use of his special abilities. He also had no idea how to use the emerald here whereas Metallix is basically built for them. After the initial few punches, once he'd lost the element of surprise, he had to get creative to even land a hit, and was basically inventing tactics on the fly to take advantage of flight and his bomb eggs being nukes. I like fights where you can see a clear difference in skill as well as power too, as well as fights which show you the character of the fighters, and this fight nailed it. Yoshi is plucky, cunning and brave but Metallix is brutal and efficient.
I think yoshi using the Emerald was just like him using any other powerup But as for abilities like chaos control Yeah your right yoshi had no clue how to do any of that Which would've been really helpful in running away
I was disappointed that the Mario/ Wario race was changed in episode 1 but now having that turn into a thrilling car chase in this episode makes everything right in the world.
Seeing this reboot continued would be a childhood dream come true. I've loved the series from when I was a kid and the work you've put into these is astounding.
Ok even though he got beat up can we appreciate the fact YOSHI KICKED ASS HE WAS NOT GOING TO GIVE UP THE EMERALD WITHOUT A FIGHT. This is a really good episode can't wait to see more
So proud of the boy yoshi! He did everything in his power and gut to hold off metallix. That gasping for air sound tho made me uncomfortable, in a way a sprite animation never has. Amazing work Mark!
Just have to wait 15 years in the future… ah fuck it seeing as how this yoshi vs metal sonic is like 20x better than the original which wasn’t even bad in the first place I’m willing to wait

24:39 Has to be one of the highlight moments for me in this episode. Mecha Sonic so annoyed that Yoshi is putting up this much of a struggle he just PUNCHES himself back to standing. *chef's kiss*
I love that Yoshi was actually able to use the emerald's power this time. It never occurred to me how little sense it made that he couldn't do that in the original.

Dude I'm 29, I was in 6th grade when episode 3 came out
I really like how the story feels more thought out. The chaos emerald actually gives Yoshi powers just like all the other characters that have obtained one in the last series; Mario gets hostile towards Sonic when he finds Yoshi injured, he’s still a stranger to them and barely knows him after all. Little details that make this new series feel more developed.
Completely agree. Everyone obtaining power ups from Chaos Emeralds also offers a lot of potentially interesting fight match ups.
Not to mention like giving the Koopa Bros more reason to show up and having Eggman actually form the alliance on screen
@@SHSLRuby To be fair, I think if the original series kept going, we would have gotten a reason why Eggman and Bowser allied themselves. Regardless, I completely agree.
Having Shadow and Eggman exposit about the emeralds at the same time was also some pretty smart writing.
I hope not. There's no need to make a fight last an actual hour.
@@Dreq458 No one cares.
I mean, DBZ can do it
@@alphastronghold715 Makes sense since he combined the first two episodes into one.

The setup of Shadow and Eggman simultaneously explaining the chaos emeralds is an underrated good bit of narrative.
I love that he did that. This episode covers EP 3 and some EP 7 material and helps this episode not feel like we have 'such a long way to go.' Plus adding new content like the Wario/Waluigi chase, this episode absolutely feels new enough to leave my hyped the whole way through.

@Ultimate Overlord Doomer(REBORN) hes always been using a gun since the og series

@@nth_account and now you reminded me, I wonder if he’ll keep “I’LL CRUSH YOU!!!”
I agree, mark is doing a crossover in a proper way.
It's why those earlier two sentences aren't exactly accurate to what's going in SMBZ but rather "what if a flash animation-era Sonic supervillain entered the Mario World and how would these characters handle this situation?"
The animation quality is obviously a huge factor in why the series is so popular, but I think this combined with the dedication to this tonal consistency is what makes the series age better in memory and why both this and the original series are so rewatchable even amongst several Mario vs Sonic action crossovers that stemmed from it.

Oh hello! Didn't know you're a fan.
Luke, what’s UP my guy! I didn’t know you watched this too!
Yoshi's beating by Metallix was 10 times worse than the original and he was still willing to fight him. Yoshi's a true badass.
Yoshi even somehow used the Chaos Emerald, unlike the original. Even did some damage as well.
What do you mean Wheeling he had no choice but to fight him he was fighting for his life. Poor Yoshi...😭
@@BigDirty1 at the very end though he still wanted to fight him, when he was crawling towards him.
@@merimkastrat5846 Ah, okay! Nice to see that confirmed (I also didn't recall that).
And it's only gonna get better from here, ain't it?
Has it really been 15 years oh my God
Bit of a backhanded compliment at the start of your comment there. You're basically saying this episode still isn't better than the original.

Also, I felt that Yoshi put up a lot of fight, and although it was thanks to the chaos emerald that he can resist a little, it shows that you got more out of him…
I also liked that you gave Bowser more screen time, unlike the original series.
The work done here was fantastic and it brings back a lot of memories! Looking forward to see more in the future!

H O O H O O
Hey HOO HOO How is Little Miss doing? 😊
So, did you just, like, completely give up on the ado lore?
Damn,Every Verified Channel is Revisiting their Childhood
The fact that Mario, Luigi and Yoshi genuinely give a damn about each other in the reboot is a massive improvement over the original.
You can really tell Luigi’s been improved for the reboot simply from the fact that he can fly properly with the Cape Feather, instead of flapping his arms like he did in the original. Plus, I feel like OG Luigi would’ve been too scarred to chase down Wario and Waluigi like he did here
Metallix especially on Brawl on a Vanishing Island
bro episode 6 is going to be fucking ridiculous 😭😭😭
The Metalix fight does sometimes oversshadow the car chase scene but honestly this series wouldn't be what it is without those fun chases.
Bowser getting Eggman's name wrong every time is already one of the best things about this reboot.
Either that or Bowser's doing it on purpose.
For all we know, he's probably doing it just to be a bit of a jerk.
@@KyProRen he would probably do that
@@KyProRen I would say it's the latter. He seems very explicit about it too.
One thing that still bugs me, is Eggman being alive the mushroom. How did he survive the Death Egg explosion? Hopefully that gets you explained in the next episode.

...Where's the joke?
Yooo! I didn't know that you were a SMBZ fan! Love your videos!
bro it actually is so much better deadass
You're literally comparing an animation that took a year to complete and polish to a tv series that dealt with crunch time with little to no animators to push a 21 minute episode in a week...
Makes a lot of sense that you are a fan actually.
Mark Haynes is the only content creator I've seen that lives up to the phrase "He's back and better than ever!".
what about midnightmaren creator of sonic rpg
And Chakra X with Wrath of Nazo. Even his trailer five years ago had way better animation than Nazo Unleashed.
Don't forget Animator Vs Animation!
@@JediEternal If we're gonna start listing animators outside of the Mario and Sonic community, then how about other animators like Hyorinjutsu?
@@CornaOnTheCob Gotta make a list of all of these!
Can't help but feel like Yoshi's moment here is equivalent to a 'super Namekian'. :)
Hearing Yoshi gasp for breath on Metallix's choke hold is a whole other level of brutality
EVERYTHING about Yoshi vs Metallix was a whole new level of brutality.
Shit was fucken OP
I love how you can make this show comical and dead serious. Including the shenanigans Luigi and Yoshi go through to try and et the emerald from the Wario Bros, and then showcasing how deadly Metallix is in the fight. It's amazing how you can switch between these sides easily and effectively.
Reminds me of Berserk. Even with how overwhelmingly dark that series is, it still has its moments of light-hearted humour.
The moment Wario and Waluigi are out of the story, you know that shit's hit the fan.
SMBZ is kinda like MHA in a way. It has its comedy at times but it can turn dark just like that.
I know everyone's talking about that fight scene, but can we also appreciate the new little touches that were added? Like Boshi's cameo appearance, or the Dash Pepper power up. Little stuff like that makes me so excited to see what'll be added next!
Major step up from the original
And Fulgore's additions too Metallix. (Theme and Ultra Combo)
Remember when everyone watched the original Mecha Sonic vs Yoshi and thought that was absolutely brutal?
A time traveler: what are you watching
SMBZ Fan: Yoshi Vs Mecha Sonic
Time Traveler: Oh i love that show!
SMBZ Fan: This fight is so deadly though
Time traveler: Mhmm... yup... *So Deadly*
Yeah, it turned out to be more brutal in the reboot
But yoshi actually powered up and I DID NOT expect that at all and it was HEATTTT
9-year-old me would have utterly shat his pants at the complete brutality of the new Yoshi vs. Metallix fight, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
THIS is the highlight of 2021 for me. Thanks, Mark.
Mecha Sonic: Give me the chaos emerald.

Yoshi fighting like a full on DBZ character was something I never knew I needed.
24:53 Dude was THROWING HANDS with Metallix. It was so hype!!
Yoshi is proof that you can lose a fight and still be a badass.
Oh yeah. Totally. That works if the main villain gets fought numerous times.
Yes! This is key! Its so lost in popular media these days
@@tinkerercalen1768 yeah, they still made him interesting. Just hated that they changed his entire from "freeing their kind" into "BLAKE UR MINEEE"
@@tinkerercalen1768 the only villain that is done correctly is Tyrian. He took down Nora and Ren, took down Qrow a fully trained huntsman, and many others. Sadly they aren't doing much with him
If this is already so good... Imagine "Brawl on a vanishing Island"... whenever that day may be... it will be legendary
If people on purpose dislike that video they need to get yeeted into metallix’s line of fire
Oh god. I'm so hyped for it to happen in like, 7 years...
...well if we're going to go by the logic of fights...
I'm thinking the angel island resistance is going to put up one hell of a fight against neo super mecha sonic, possibly forcing the next one to split in two

Im actually gonna wonder where will dr egad be??
Hey dude, I knew u was a fan of Mario, Sonic, and others. Never knew u liked this
Yoshi is the series' Piccolo.
Then again, his island and people are based on Planet Namek and the namekians in the original SMBZ, so you're not wrong.
So Goku was right after all these years. Piccolo WAS a Yoshi!
