I am very excited about joining ROTC next semester as a sophomore. I'll be contracting to be a pilot and switch from my current major of aviation professional pilot airplane to pro pilot helicopter - very hype to make a bit of history at my college to be part of the first helicopter training class. (:
As a side note, it was really sad to hear how your past experience with JROTC was as far as the attitudes and mindsets of people. In my unit, yes we were huge on respect, but I guess our definition of respect was different. No one barked orders and no one person made the decision of how things were to be done. Everyone mattered from their thoughts, ideas, execution, in put, critiques, etc. We truly were a team, and we valued one another and challenged each other in our leadership development while also understanding the chain of command and where someone fell in that. It sounds like what ROTC focuses on as well.
