One reason there are so many blowouts in this game, aside from player skill, is captain skill level. I think sometimes you uber-players forget what it's like to play with low level captains. My average ship tier is V, and my average captain level is probably 10. I am a potato, but I'm trying to improve.

Captain level definitely helps but it is not a factor in blowouts at all
