I was so into this performance that I didn't notice until several rewatches in that the girl in front lost one of her poi lol. Props for not letting that affect her at all and still killing it with one poi ball.
This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Makes me wish i could be a part of something so deeply cultural with deep roots. Strong with unity and love.
This is the truly LIFE-CHANGING rabbit hole I never knew awaited me. I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how amazing this is. And I'm a Canadian that (unfortunately) doesn't even understand what is being sung.
Neither to we New Zealanders. And the people singing it probaply dont really understand it either. Its more of a cultural thing. Using the native language
Fantastic to see this. I started the first Maori Culture group at the Girls High School in 1968 when I went there as a teacher. Its fabulous to see how professional school kapa haka groups are now.
Lovely! Just found this. Well done, Hamilton Girls' and Boys His School. Greetings from Redlands, California (the Greater Los Angeles area.) My sister is Whaea Mere Meha-Uelese, of Hamilton Girls High.
Super Hermoso y muy buena coordinación en la danza Por favor. Me pueden decir como se llama la canción. Gracias. Ah y si la podrías subtitulada al español. Mil bendiciones.
Since I saw this video it has become an obsession, it never ceases to amaze me, everything is so incredible, the dances, the voices, I am in love. Could someone tell me what country, town, or island this culture belongs to? I would be very grateful.
Haka is from Polynesian Māori culture, the native people of New Zealand! The Tainui is a tribal confederation made up of various Māori tribes, and the Kapa Haka Festival is held once every two years to highlight the Haka performances of various schools :)
@@anotherdeaddave5749 Thank you so much for telling me! I would love to go to New Zealand sometime, what amazes me the most is that they are people who still go to school and still do spectacular dancing, although I don't know if it is correct to call it "dancing", I am a bit ignorant in those matters.

It isn't necessary. You will be alright.

Does anyone know what the cultural significance of twirling the poi balls is, what it represents? I see the same in traditional Hawaiian hula.
I have a feeling this is the next disney movie. 😏
