    Great review, thanks. This camera would be great if the motion zones would be kept if the camera turns to a different position and if there was a possibility to make the camera turn to a preset position using a REST command or HA. For instance to make the camera turn to the garage door if it is opened. One Q: does the preset position keep a manual focus or is it auto focus only? It seems the camera does a lot of focus hunting and a fixed focus for a preset would be better I think.

    • @LarsKlintTech

      The preset control through HA would be awesome, but HA only has read only values.
      The presets are auto focus only.

    I don't think the smart detection zone should move. It should be set in the "home/default" view. That's where the camera sits to detect things.... then it wanders off to track things. Then back to the home position where the smart zones are.

    I think I'd keep the G3 flex as a general view camera, and maybe combine it with the PTZ for that extra security. I do like the person tracking. I think that is pretty neat and UI seem to have it quite well implemented.
    I have only had the cast Aluminium brackets break if they are overtightened. Cast aluminium is like cast iron, it's hard and a bit brittle. If you overtighten the screws it will crack. I've never had issues with them though, as I don't over tighten them :)
    As a note, I have tested the Audio alarm on the G5 flex cameras, and it works perfectly with the newer smoke and C0 alarms that use the 3 beep temporal tones (3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps again)
    The sensor size - basically larger the sensor, the better the quality as it has larger pixels, better light capture so improves low light capability. 1/2.7" is the physical size in inches (") and 5MP means the sensor itself is capable of 5MP raw, even though the camera is 4MP rated. Again, this improves quality of the image. This is why a lot of 4K cameras with 1/4" sensor size are lower quality than 2K cameras with 1/2" sensor size

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  Місяць тому +1

      Not G5 flex? The person tracking works pretty well. It only misses it about 5% of the time in my experience. I actually use the PTZ more to set a certain viewpoint for recording specific things like a lawn being mowed or something.

    • @EsotericArctos
      @EsotericArctos Місяць тому

      @@LarsKlintTech If I had a G3 Flex spare, I'd probably keep using it as they make a good general view camera. If I was doing it new, I'd probably get a G5 Flex as well, but the PTZ does do an awesome job on it's own. It depends on resources I guess, and how many cables you have in one place :) The tracking on the PTZ is pretty impressive, even in low light.

    FYI - the AI DSLR camera is the most expensive UniFi offers, not the G4 PTZ.
    Curious if you can showcase an example of what you mean when you say 2K camera optics are competitive with 4K ones. Could you show a side by side where that difference (or lack there of) comes to life? Was a bit odd to hear you say they’re not too far apart quality wise, but then say you aren’t familiar with the camera sensors themselves.
    Appreciate the video!

    • @LarsKlintTech
      @LarsKlintTech  3 місяці тому

      Very good observation Mike. Thanks for your comment. I mean that when viewing the footage on my phone, through the web interface or on a tablet, the quality of the image is what matters, no how many pixels there are. The current 2K cameras from Unifi are incredibly high quality, and on par with most 4K imo. It keeps the price down, yes the quality is still there. You definitely can get superb 4K cameras, such as the AI Pro, which does show a difference, but unless you are really after the last 5%, it might not be worth it.
      There is also the storage side of things, and the processing power needed for 4K compared to 2K to take into account.

      What makes you say that? It is IP66 rated which means that an "IP66 rated enclosure provides protection against high pressure (12.5mm) water jets. The test includes the enclosure being subjected to 100 litres per minute of water volume with the pressure of 100 kPa at a distance of 3m for at least 3 minutes."

    For $300 other companies provide much superior PTZ cameras. I'm pretty dissapointed with this one.

      Could you elaborate on which other cameras are superior and why? What is the issue with the UniFi G5 PTZ and why? Help us all understand instead of just posting unhelpful comments. Thanks 😊

      @@LarsKlintTech Sure. amcrest, hikvision and reolink are just a few out of a number of companies that provide 4k, poe powered ptz cameras with optical zoom - a few at 16x. Not to mention auto patrol, smart tracking, color night vision and normal night vision at far greater distances. All that at same or even lower price points. I’m not writing a paper so i’m not going to list out all the cameras but they are easy to find on their websites.
      I love unifi protect interface, it’s excellent and easy for my non technical wife to use. But their cameras are lacking against the competition. I used to use a blue iris system with cameras from a few different places and the quality of those pictures was on par with my current unifi system that includes g4 pro, g5 flex, ai360, g5 turret ultra and g4 domes

      Thanks for watching. It would be awesome if you could elaborate. What are some of the bugs you are finding? What hardware do you prefer, and why is this mediocre? Have you got the G5 PTZ installed as well, since you are commenting on it? Please share your experiences, so we can all learn from it.

    Don't buy this stuff if you live in the UK. The returns process is done by sending stuff to the Netherlands. Your products get customs charges for returns! This stuff is garbage! I was offered instore credits to cover the customs charges! I will not be buying more items to send to the Netherlands! Very poor customer service.

      I’m from the UK and have used both the UK and EU store, I once had to return an order to EU, they sent me return labels for UPS and all went through with no issues or costs for full refund.

    The camera is absolutely terrible at tracking and at night it works poorly for a family of 5. Unifi completely screwed up RTSPS, which is why an assistant like HomeKit doesn't work with them. Unifi is a nice device, but it can't handle cameras plus they are nosy. AI Pro has no offline functionality.

      Thanks for watching. I would love for you to clarify some of these very broad statements you are making, so I can understand what you mean in more detail.
      What does it work poorly for a family of 5?
      I don't know about HomeKit, but Home Assistant works fine with the RTSPS feed. I have 15 cameras running through it using HA. How did they screw it up? Is there a work around for you?
      How do you know they are nosy? Do you have examples of it?
