Any new items you've added to your bag for 2020?
I have added blueray protected glasses at my bag for incase I have to use computer. It is great for keep eyes power perfect.
nintendo switch !
Id recommend swapping out the mac book charger for the baseus 65W USB c charger. It has a way smaller footprint & weight, and extra 30W usb-c and a 5V usb port. All that for about 25€
Everyone has it’s own opinion about minimalism. I’d remove at least half of all these items :)
Why every minimalist is also a photographer
We all meet in secret to plan out our life goals 📸
Minimalism woow
Looks like some new backchodi to me
@@glenalmeida5465 🤣 cool 🆒
I’m guessing bc it’s an easy hobby to pick up and you don’t need a lot of stuff to be really good and enjoy it.
Super clean video, absolutely fantastic. Get this man's subs up!
Thanks so much for the support, glad you enjoyed this one!
The best EDC video I have ever seen so far.
I would include a compact Bluetooth speaker and spectacle case.
So glad to hear that, thanks for the support! Bluetooth speaker would be really nice for around the apartment but I probably wouldn’t need it on the go. The top compartment is really soft and designed to safely store glasses already!
Hydro Homies here! Good to see a fellow homie. Great video.
There are dozens of us! Haha. Thanks for the support!
Fantastic video as always Josh, big thank you for the left-handed pen. tip, I think that will solve all my problems, been searching for a while.
I love that pen!
I m using Arc'teryx Granville 10 Courier bag for my daily, with my macbook pro 13", iPad Pro 11" with zugu case, GeN 65w charger with usb c cable, Airpod pro, samsung T5 SSD, TP Link wifi egg, Magic Mouse, usb c 7 in 1 hub, YSL wallet, LV KeyChain, mask case, alcohol paper, tissue paper, Alcohol spray, and it fit perfectly. 😁
Thanks for sharing in such great detail, sounds like a nice setup!
I have an iPad pro 11 inch as well as the macbook pro 16 inch so I decided to get separate bags in which I can take only one device at a time. For my 16 inch macbook pro I web with the Bellroy Classic backpack and let me tell you I never looked back, for the iPad I went with the Waterfield Outback Solo case which fits my iPad perfectly and gave me the Indiana Jones look style...Would love to see you reviewing some of the Waterfield designs Josh!
Haven’t heard of the water field bags, I’ll definitely have to check them out! Heard awesome things about that bellroy too, thanks for sharing!
Me seeing apple macbook in every minimal setup
😑i am poor.....................
I only have my laptop, charger, mouse , my usb, a notebook and a pencil 🌟
That’s great! Glad you’ve found a setup that’s working well for you
If that's minimalist, I'm ultra, ultra, ultra-light.
That’s great!
David Haigh but then what can you link below? (:
Just phone, wallet, spectacles and keys for me haha :)
Same as me when I’m not carrying my bag 👍👍
Macbook still goingn strong after 2 years brooo i have a 2011 macbook pro and i dont complain
Glad it’s still going for you! My 2012 is a bit underpowered for professional video editing but it’s still going strong as well for my wife to use casually. My 2018 gets the job done, probably will hold onto it a few more years or as long as it can handle video footage for work.
@@joshfenn I have my original 2007 MacBook Pro and my 2013 MacBok Pro 13" and both still work fine. The Hardware is typically less of the Problem if you take care of it. The REAL Problem is the software becomes outdated and companies stop supporting older software which FORCES you to buy a new machine just so you can get software updates. My 2007 MacBook Pro is almost useless (running Snow Leopard) but believe it or not - there are some things I can still do on that machine that I cannot do on a new machine so having legacy systems can OFTEN come in handy!
Gotta love the wallet in the backpack. Maybe when you are at the airport.
Is it just me? I’ve carried the same bag since 2001. It’s been with me to nearly every state in the USA and multiple countries. It’s traveled hundreds of thousands of land miles and even more on planes and trains. It’s outdated but part of my “travel family”.. I’d love to update but I can’t make myself do it... and enjoyed your video.
What bag?
I can definitely appreciate that! If I wasn’t regularly reviewing and testing bags for UA-cam I would definitely stick with one long term. Glad you found something that’s working well for you!
I recommend you the peak design every day backpack v2.
I’ve got that one on my list to try sometime! PD definitely makes some great stuff.
My bag:
16” MacBook Pro (i9-8 core 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD - personal/freelance use)
13” MacBook Air (company issue for work use)
11” iPad Pro - 256 GB - Slimfolio Keyboard Case with Apple Pencil (freelance use, content consume, read Apple News, watch TV, meeting hub, use as Sidecar Accessory might be the most used machine in my bag)
Apple AirPods
Notebook
2 Pens and 2 Sharpies
Applicable Chargers
2 External SSD Drives (1 TB each)
“Accessory Pouch” (Eyedrops, Ibuprofen, Mask, Extra Set of Eyeglasses, Deodorant, Cologne, Burt Bees Lip Balm (chapped lips are horrible), Listerine Strips, Hand Sanitizer, two pouches of Oatmeal in case I forget lunch)
Wallet
U.S. Passport (I know nowadays it isn’t needed but when I travel it is nice to have handy)
IPhone 12 Pro Max - 512 GB Pac Blue
Deck of Cards - sometimes I don’t want to stare at a screen and sometimes solitaire gets me through
Anker Battery Bank
Sounds like a great setup, thanks for sharing with such great detail!
Good stuff, love the content, very simple, I like it like that.
Happy to hear that, thanks for the support!
You have a lot of bags for a minimalist 🙃. Good video!
Haha I know. I’d never purchase this many but with my work I’m constantly testing and reviewing bags. Many of them end up getting sold after the review process because I have no use for so many. Thanks for the support on this one!
That cat is adorable
He’s the best! 😻
This is what I was looking for. Thanks for the bag recommendation.
Glad to hear it!
Awesome video! I love minimalism as a philosophy for individual application. I think it pairs with mindfulness nicely. I spoke about this recently in my latest video 🌿
Thanks for the support!
Wolfie is checking out the bag, can I crawl in there and take a nap or take me to visit some other cats😸
He does that with every new bag I bring into the apartment 😹 he’s gotta supervise the production
HEY!
I deff rocking out with the peak design 45L travel backpack. Inside I have...
Peak Design small camera cube w/
(camera: Sony a6600 w/ + Lens: Sony 18-105 f4 + 55mm 1.8, Mic: Rode VideoMicro )
Peak Design Tech Pouch w/
( Anker PowerCore 10000 Portable Charge, MacBook Pro Charger, Slim Logi-Tech Mouse, Apple lighting Cable, Micro USB Cable, USB-C Dongle Port, Sandisk 1T Slim SSD, & ANKER USB-C 5 Port Wall charger )
I keep the backpack in its compressed form for EDC.
Since I'm always on the go between Nyc & L.A i wanted a do it all bag for rapid deployment. For travel I can always grab my peak design packing cubes and wash pouch & out the door I go for minimalist travel.
Love the versatility, design, and function of the bag.
P.S: For sure got everything in the black color way :) #minimalist
Thanks for sharing your setup in such detail! Still haven’t had the pleasure of testing the peak design bags yet, I’ve heard nothing but great things. That 6600 is a great choice too! I picked up the 6400 last year and absolutely love it to pair as a b cam for my a7iii.
Thanks for sharing! I just bought the limited edition X-Pac version of this bag for $250. I hope it was worth it 😅
That’s awesome, I’m sure you’ll love it!
Great Video Josh. You really do a solid review and are probably one of my ' new ' favorite channels. Well done !
So happy to hear that, thanks so much for the support!
Great video, but I would recommend a case for your Kindle.
I had a case but ended up donating it to my wife because she needed one. I loved my case but the weight savings without is great for travel and backpacking at least 👍
I just bought the peakdesign everyday backpack v1 charcoal on sale and im loving the hell out of it
Glad to hear that, I’ve still gotta check out the PD bags!
Superb video man. Mines a little different. I have two MacBooks pros, ones my work laptop (2013 15") and my other one is my personal one (2012 13"). I carry on me a full ifixit tool kit, multimeter, nice set of wire strippers, rj45 crimper, Ethernet patch cables for testing if a small cable run is bad, my Jlab Air Executives (unfortunately right now using air icons as my executives suffered a fatal crush). Hopefully soon I'll be adding a nice thin windbreaker as having something to cover up in is nice in Michigan, and I want to slim down on laptops, but being a full time student and part time Network tech I don't have that luxury of consolidating.
Thanks for the support and for sharing your setup! Glad you found something that’s working for both applications too. 👍👍
Great video Josh!! Totally loving the camera cube bag. Stay safe out there!!
The camera cube has been really great so far!
left handers unite!
🙌🙌🙌
I really miss having a backpack because I work from home I don’t actually need to use one and when I go out I only pick my phone, cardholder and keys, everything In my pants pockets.
I know what you mean! My usual carry has changed so much through all of this, my full tech pack out doesn’t come out with me too often unfortunately. I still always carry a bag though since I don’t own a car, I usually have a few things to carry if/when I’m out.
Nice guide... thankyou for such beautiful content
Happy to share, thanks for the support!
This video should be called “What to expect when you steal from me”
I just take my phone and wallet out 😃
Love it! My tech bag setup doesn’t come out with me every day, only situations when I’m working remotely or going to a client meeting or something. Been debating doing a pocket EDC video sometime but it’s similar to yours and too simple to make a whole video about it haha.
Thanks for hearing my video request. I have been watching your tech bag EDC reeatedly before. I guess I will be doing thr same. Haha
Good quality bro well presented
Thanks so much!
Amazing tips :)
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the support!
Very relaxing
Glad to hear that, thanks for watching!
Can you share anything about your colorgrade / videoedit? I absolutely adore your grade / aesthetic! Thanks in advance.
Maybe I’ll do a full video of my workflow sometime! I shoot in an HLG profile and convert with the Leeming Lut (Gerald undone has a great video covering in more detail) I also shoot with the black pro mist filters to soften the look a bit, that combo with a few other tweaks work out pretty well for me!
First person I've met outside my family with the same surname, hi!
I don’t think I’ve met anyone else with our name either, nice to meet you! :)
Hey, the camera waterproof housing link is just redirecting to the lens page. Can you provide the correct link please. Thank you, live your videos.
I just tested the link and everything seems to be working okay. If you’re still having trouble I’d just search on Amazon to see which one fits you best 👍
Upvote for kitty :)
😻😻
das dope
Man it really seems like you have it packed down. The only thing I could see you adding is some sort of utility knife. I carry a small blade on me at all times. It’s actually come in handy on several occasions. Something small is all you need.
Funny you should mention that, I’ve had my eye on the leatherman es-4 for the past few months mainly to use for backpacking, but if I end up picking one up it’ll definitely make its way into my regular carry. Thanks for the support on this one!
Have you tried the PK camera cube? which one will you say is better?
Haven’t tried it but I’ll be sure to keep it in mind for a possible comparison in the future!
Hi Josh, awesome video!
One EDC item remains unnamed though: What watch is that?
It’s the Nordgreen pioneer! Just had gotten it when I filmed this video, been really happy with it since. They sponsored my wardrobe video from a couple months back if you want to hear more about them 👍
@@joshfenn Will have a look (both the video and the watch), thanks for the reply!
How does it feel, to be a freelance photographer and how does it work? And did you study for this?
It’s a bit stressful at times, but it’s great! I do more video work than photography but it’s a pretty healthy mix. No studying, all self taught through UA-cam since starting the channel in 2016. Still working on my income since I’m relatively new but always looking and reaching out for new clients.
U r a left hander, hi5 bro.
Don't plug out memory card from camera for transferring files. Someday god forbid u may have to pay a huge price. Take those files wirelessly or get it via camera data cable.
Not sure what price I’d have to pay, but it’s generally much easier and faster to pull the files from the memory card. Everyone’s preferences/situation will be different though 👍
@@joshfenn i agree
Can I have your old backpack? It would really be a blessing
I sell everything I don’t use or need to help pay my bills and stock my fridge, sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
"Minimalist" is such a jerk-off label. But this is a really clean backpack breakdown. Thanks for the ideas
Happy to share!
From where you buy this and price?
I’ve got links for everything in the description!
Interesting way of holding a pen.
i have never been this early
Thanks so much for the support!
Is the bag water resist?
Not completely waterproof, but very resistant. 👍👍
ummm did the definition of minimalist change or something ?
www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/minimalism
Hm
Bangam da
It wasn’t completely clear to me from the video if the Moment Travel Wear Camera Insert 5L fits well in the inside of the Aer Tech Bag 2 and is it possible to have side access to the camera?
The cube fits pretty well, but it wouldn’t be designed for side access like the moment bag would be. Hope this helps!
@@joshfenn Very helpful, thanks a lot!
Nice 👍👍
Thanks for the support!
Is no one gonna talk about how you hold your pen? Is that a lefty's way of not smearing ink or just how you hold it normally?
Haha I always forget how odd it looks until I look at the footage after filming. I think it’s a mix of both?
@@joshfenn I'm not a lefty, but I adopted the same grip after randomly seeing someone use it and trying it out for myself, for some reason my handwriting gets a lot neater that way without me being any slower.
Awesome video and a great bag
Thanks for the support!
@@joshfenn do you recommend this bag?
Absolutely. As always, depends on your setup but it’s been great the past few months of testing it. Full review is linked in the description!
@@joshfenn okay great thanks
What size MacBook is that? Would this fit a 17 inch MacBook?
I have a 15”, I know it’ll work with the newer 16” MacBooks but I think the 17’s would probably be too big for it
Pen grip?
Hey what happened to your ISM bag from last year?
Still have it, my wife has actually been using it for her EDC most of the time. I’m usually testing different bags for the channel all the time so I switch around pretty frequently.
Does it have a sleeve for iPad ?
It does 👍
How can you do the job you do in large city without a car?
I’ve actually gotten a car since this came out after 5 years of going car free! Got on pretty well with transit, ride sharing, and car rentals but it’s been nice having the extra convenience since going back to car ownership.
Have you had any issues with the MB keyboard?
I’ve recently had some sticking/double keystroke issues intermittently the past few months. They’re offering free replacements so I’ll probably be sending mine in for repair sometime soon.
Would it fit the macbookpro 16 inches? thank you!
I don’t have one to confirm 100% personally, but there’s room to spare with the 15” so you should be safe!
Minimalist?
I was thinking the same thing. Seems like a total survival bag.
No reason why it can’t be both
Ig he is a minimalist after seeing his other videos, its probably just that his work requires him to take a lot of stuff
Wait... are you the narrator on Dark Docs?
Nah I haven’t heard of it.
I saw a cat. I clicked like.
😻😻😻
what song is that at the end?
Not sure of the title, I get all of my video music from artlist though, I’ve got a link in the description if you want to check it out!
5:24 fail 😁
?
Yo can we get the specs on the cat?
He’s a 2017 model, the processor runs a bit hot when you scratch his head so the fans kick on pretty loudly but I don’t mind. The built in speakers are very loud, especially when he wants breakfast 😹😹😹
Thar bag prolly 15kg
Haven’t weighed it out, but probably around 8-12kg if I had to guess.
U need more b roll to show the items
I’ll make a note for the next one!
wait. he said three years for the airpods? lmao didn't those just come out like two years ago tho?
bruh wtf i just looked up the release date and they came out my freshman year of hs wtf. I thought they came out like two years ago since that's when they became a trend lmaoo
Haha I appreciate the revision. The AirPods made a quick switch from people being made fun of to a fashion statement practically overnight, probably around 2 years ago if I had to guess.
Damn, if that is minimalist I must be ascetic...
waow, too many products out of your bag. congratulations for carrying that much weight :))
It’s not too heavy actually! Appreciate the support on this one.
@@joshfenn i understand. your products are all very high quality.(especially macbook pro 2018 15 inch) good luck with your work.
#joshfennsquad
Appreciate the support in this one!
This bag is kinda expensive.
Definitely a higher end bag, but the aesthetics and quality absolutely match the price point. 👍
Minimalist????
imagine buying a laptop that requires a dongle
They don’t make a laptop (on any platform) that would include all of the ports I need with my usual workflow.
@@joshfenn whos 'they'
Companies that make laptops.
@@joshfenn and u can't find one with all the ports u need?? so if all of them were lacking in the same area... y did you buy a mac book? just outta interest, cuz theres alot of money to b saved there
I need a higher powered laptop that runs MacOS for work, pricing is about the same for a similar spec’ed ultrabook from any manufacturer though.
Minimalist??
They say the world is relative. But no, that's absolutely not minimalistic.
How so?
Not so minimalist;) Minimalist would be one camera+one lens, phone, laptop, pen and note. And that's it.
Why stop there? A _real_ minimalist probably wouldn’t need a lens, they probably shoot straight from the sensor 😂
“minimal”
Quite the hot take you have here. 😂
Thanks for hearing my video request. I have been watching your tech bag EDC reeatedly before. I guess I will be doing thr same. Haha
Happy to share, glad to hear folks were interested in an update! This series has been a yearly tradition now, 4 years and running :)
How good does that camera cube fit in the bag? I have the same backpack and found that the peak cube and a couple others I tried are smashing the camera
It’s definitely a snug fit but it seems to work out alright with my a7iii, I’d guess it’s pretty similar to your peak cube
Can the anker charge the laptop in a pinch?
It won’t keep up with the power draw while using, but it can still charge slowly if needed 👍
