I think its not about the existence of comedy its about the placing of it. People need moments to think about sad or scary scenes and comedy then has to lighten it up at the right time but this first episode at least failed at getting the timing right. It feels difficult to take anything serious if every single moment gets undercut by heavy comedy and its especially bad here since the tonal whiplash is extreme. We go from his entire hometown getting murdered immediately into very silly jokes. Its too much.
Props to Cloverwork they did an incredible work. I can nitpick if I want but overall it was just a great first episode as Shounen. I don’t see the negativity
There are no supernatural elements in those two episodes. The "possessed" uncle is just the artists way of representing evil traits, thoughts and actions of the uncle. There are a lot of imaging in this anime, like when they add wings to the MC, just to hightlight his ability to jump.
I kind of like the weird mix of serious and shitpost. Especially the use of the classic clang-boing sound, like when the girl throws the large rock at the rabbit.
The Hojo clan, which had ruled for 150 years, fell, leaving behind two brothers. The elder brother was betrayed and executed by his supposedly proud uncle, while the younger brother escaped with the help of a "loyal and brave samurai." This "loyal and brave samurai" was Suwa Yorishige, a story every Japanese knows. But, Matsui rewrote him as a ridiculous character.
its been a long time since I watched assasination classroom, but i dont remember so big tonal shifts like in this one, from 0 to 100, they arent that bad as of now, but they still shake me off. Outside that, loving the anime so far, real good animation and soundtrack, and the characters are quite cute, so im really into this one.
*Warning with mild spoilers:* This series apparently ain’t interested in being 100% serious & realistic. It kinda looks like the Priest is basically there to test your tolerance for the style of humor of this series.
Yea the character actually looks like a girl, he did the same thing with Nagisa in A.C, looks even more so in the manga, I just flicked through the first volume.
I liked his last manga, especially Ms Vitch hahaha, but I bought the first few volumes of this manga but just never got around to read it, and it’s nowhere on my reading list, I’ve so much other stuff to read. Although I was really disappointed with the spines of the manga, I thought after the beautiful spines of A.C that he’d do nice spines for this manga too. But they’re all a bland red/wine colour. But I do love samurai stories, so I’ll probably enjoy it whenever I get around to reading it, I won’t watch the anime though.
I'm still on the fence about that. Ot is jarring but the show overall is very dynamic and kind of extreme. It does feel too over the top at times.... But I kinda like it... I like things that push limits and do weird things as long as its done with talent and genuine effort.
About the tone: one's got to remember that at the end of the day, it's not a seinen. So the dark themes need to be balanced out, I think.

@@JMB_Smash Couldn't get past the first episode, the sudden goofiness in the middle of heavy or emotional scenes weirded me out
@@thelegendaryklobb2879 I didn’t notice any mood breaking goofiness in the first episode, so I can’t relate.
AoT is a shonen.
No excuse.
@@aintthatapotofeffluck8926 And even that series had a few mood breaking silly moments, via characters like Sasha, Connie, Hange & Gabi.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way about this anime.
I really loved the scene where he was running along the rooftop, idk just made me happy
The pull chain hair is never going to get old.
The actions stills remind me of back in the day when anime wasn’t popular lol love it
Agreed
Personally I am enjoying the strange tone of the story. But then again, I find pleasure in cognitive dissonance

I think you are ignoring the supernatural elements of the show. The uncle was possessed by a demon. There are monsters in the opening.
Stop spoiling the anime that has not been confirmed.
@@garrabella89 I am not spoiling. It is in the opening credits. As far as saying the uncle was possessed, the character said that in the episode.

Disagree, its a psychological mindfuckery displayed as art
Got more of the impression that was just a visual for the audience that the Uncle was a traitorous scum bag.
I kind of like the weird mix of serious and shitpost. Especially the use of the classic clang-boing sound, like when the girl throws the large rock at the rabbit.
2 straight seasons of shotas going viral but they have surprisingly great shows

The priest has the gojo voice
Would you lose?
Nah I'd Run
This is the same author of Assassination Classroom. But tonally, it’s more like Supernatural Detective Neuro
Yea the character actually looks like a girl, he did the same thing with Nagisa in A.C, looks even more so in the manga, I just flicked through the first volume.
Gives me the impression that he’s gonna crossdress somewhere down the line like Nagisa did depending on the situations.

Solid anime, i like the animation

I was reading this in Shonen Jump but dropped it relatively early. The story kind of dragged for me despite a strong start.
Sometimes humour works when there are dark undertones or if it's dark humour. But here it looks like a complete farce after that massacre.
Robinson Timothy Taylor Lisa Thompson Brian
A man trying to kiss a boy. Yup, absolutely normal for 14th century Japan.
I'm calling this the anime of 101 art styles. Gets a little jarring at times.
Yona of the dawn is same story but much better. I was invested in this one cz how good it looked but the episode wasnt very good
The head priest makes it hard to watch this show. With the stupid faces and horrible jokes. I could do without him.
Anyone who is thirsting after the main character who is a child needs to get help ASAP. 🤦🏿♂️
Yeah, I assumed the thirst would be girls for the villain. Tokiyuki very much looks like a kid.
