Just recently, some of my crossbody handbags have been driving me mad! Some are fantastic and a dream to use, whilst others have varying degrees of “annoying” tendencies…. From the chain being so short that the handbag is hitched-up in your armpit, to the chain getting caught in your hair EVERY TIME YOU WEAR IT.
So here are some of my “best” and “worst” luxury handbags. Included here we have bags from Chanel, including the Chanel Boy and Chanel Classic Flap. Also bags from YSL/Saint Laurent, Valentino, Dior, Louis Vuitton and more.

In Chanel's defense....i've talked to a Chanel SA before and the Chanel bags are meant to be worn on one shoulder only...not cross body. Its purposely done that way and they actually AREN'T meant to be cross body. Because I too was frustrated with the length and that's when they told me about it.

Depends on your HEIGHT.
Some of these bags are marketed as cross body, but if you're 5'8" like Sophie is, that's not going to be a crossbody on her.

As an avid crossbody bag person, I found this both educational and comical. Some of those bags with straps are absolutely hilarious looking as crossbody!

@@SAA-hr9gr that's not true. There are a great many bags that are designed to be used cross body. Even on the Louis Vuitton website there's a section for crossbody bags. They aren't all shoulder bags and when a bag is marketed as crossbody it should actually be crossbody.

They’ve changed the straps for the traditional Lady Dior’s now and they’re much longer and adjustable and are actually perfect for cross body wear 😊
I wear my Chanel boy bag cross body because I'm only 5ft 3 so it just about works for my height
I know this isn't the point of the video but those jewel tone pastels looks so pretty on you! That color combo of sky blue and the lavender blazer was so pretty as well as the sapphire blue top with the sky blue bag!
Oh Sophie! Some of your “worst” bags to wear crossbody are NOT designed as such. So it is not “fair” to treat them as crossbody bags just because they are rather small or have some kind of chain/strap.
Enjoy them for what they are.

They are marketed as cross body so...
Topaz Nora Chanel classic flaps in the small and medium sizes are absolutely not MARKETED BY Chanel as crossbody bags. They are shoulder bags. The mini is a crossbody, and the jumbo has a very long strap that can be worn crossbody.

Your demos are so funny; and you cracked me up. Thanks! Those handbags too short for cross-body probably were not meant to be worn cross-body; rather they were meant for the side instead, like the Chanel one.
Chanel flaps are not meant to be worn crossbody at all. Even Lady Dior bags I believe were first meant to be worn just hand carried or crook of the arm, for formal functions.
winnimizz it’s rather sad to see how these beautiful bags fail to adapt to more diverse modern uses. Seems like these brands also don’t try to adapt anyway

Title says worn "as crossbody", aka it's not crossbody, however if you think that your investment of thousands will also be practical and comfortable, don't get your hopes up. I for example would assume that the Chanel bags DO have straps long enough, they sure as heck do, so this video is very informative.
I agree the boy bag strap is super annoying, but it shouldn’t twist on itself like that. Yours is threaded incorrectly. If you undo the leather part you can take it off completely and then thread it through correctly.

Sophie, what a brilliant analysis of cross body straps. It's so odd that houses of design produce such annoying accessories to seriously expensive bags. I love that unlike other Luxury youtubers, you are very unbiased and don’t purport that every bag is the greatest thing ever (until you don’t own it any more!)...In all fairness those Chanel flaps were designed as shoulder bags but sales associates sell us on the “versatility.” Great video!
Omg! This is by far one of your best videos. First, I really enjoyed seeing this side of you ~ love your sense of humor, more specifically your honesty (with humor added) on these very expensive bags. The points you made regarding each bag (good/bad) is not only true but extremely helpful because it is only after you buy the bag you really know if it’s going to work for you. Which is extremely annoying!!!! 😡the return policy on designer bags is ridiculous the amount of time is 10 days in the US and quite frankly, with a busy schedule (like most business woman) I don’t get around to trying my bags for weeks - forget 10 days!
Maybe with your Boy bag, try undoing the strap and re-feed it thru. It is looped in weird. So hard to explain but if you catch what I'm getting at I think that'll solve your problem with it as far as switching from long to short style.
Hey Sophie, I just treated my self to an early birthday gift, the lady Dior in all matte, it's such a beauty, adjustable strap, fold opening. It took me a year to save a gift myself something beautiful . Love your videos and I just wanted to share my excitement ⚘

I've just bought the toy loulou, am literally stalking my emails to check how much longer until it arrives. My first ever cross body, but now my kids are older I love being able to not have to carry half my house around with me. I'm off to Chanel next month to go get a coin purse, my first ever Chanel item. I've loved this channel for helping me explore luxury shopping, a new world just opening up to me at the age of 36!

Hello Sophie! Another great video! I had the same problem with my Chanel Boy bag so I took it to my S.A. She got another S.A. to work on it and if you pull the leather strap through the rings, the chain won’t “fold” over like that. It has made my Boy bag a bit longer so I can wear it crossbody! The SA was saying that when the leather goes completely through the rings, it starts to do that weird, fold thing. Xxxx

Also Chanel Classic flaps are NOT designed to be worn crossbody. They haven’t changed the length of the chain since 1955 when it debuted.
Buyers are trying to force it be something it's not and make it "my everyday bag." Completely miss the point this is for evenings and elegant events, not walking your dog.

Actually the jumbo size has a much longer chain than the other sizes and is thus a perfect crossbody. The other sizes all have super short chains
Robert Lenach the jumbos don’t look good crossbody on everyone. They’re too big and too long. The reissues up to the 226 look good crossbody and can be used that way because their chain is long enough.
The classic Lady Dior was designed with the tight zip with Lady Diana in mind, so photogs couldn't see into her bag.

Great video and very helpful. I know what to look for the chains for crossbody bags. For the Valentino bag, have you ever used the thicker strap that can be purchased separately for the Rockstud Spike bags?
I think that for the price on these designer bags, the straps should be able to give you the option to adjust and wear them either as a shoulder or a crossbody. They bothered to include it with the bag. They might as well put in the effort to put the customer’s needs in mind.
If I had that tweed Classic Flap, i'd be happy to to wear it in my head, it's so beautiful! 😉

I love wearing my bags cross body and this video was so good and informative. You always bring the best Sophie. Literally all my bags except for one can be when cross body they are the best length on me I have valentino ysl and givenchy antigona and Im super happy with them. Ive been put off buying a boy bag since they are in my opinion so uncomfortable, the chain even on the small bag seem to dig right through my body which isn't the most comfortable sensation lol. Luxe means comfort to me

You give your honest opinions on bags that are so expensive. Just because it’s expensive doesn’t make it the best. I don’t get high end bags that don’t have an adjustable strap. hahahahahaha this was honestly one of the FUNNIEST and honestly most PRACTICAL review videos you've done. I 100% consider this when I buy bags. Some of my favorites (5' 7'') are the Dagne Dover mini tote and the PS1. Have discovered that though I don't love the look top handles are super useful.

Of all your bags featured I only own the boy bag and I think it depends on your height as well with crossbody bags, I'm 5 ft 1 and the boy bag sits perfectly at my hips😊another good crossbody bag is the balenciaga city mini, perfect for my height!
I have the Chanel Boy bag and i just took the strap off and put it back nice. I think they just put it wrong 😬
The strap is adjustable so you can literally just take it off completely and arrange it nicely 😃

My biggest issue with crossbody bags is that I have a large chest. The strap cuts me in half, diagonally in a very unflattering way. If my bag has a strap that can be adjusted, I wear it over the shoulder instead. If the strap can't be adjusted, I just remove it and carry the bag. P.S. If the pink tweed gets on your nerves enough to punch it, feel free to send it to me. :-D
