"I always imagine that people's magic in game will always reflect the person casting it and the sort of visual as a character." I feel this, my doggie.
In my mind its kinda like that but there like a color that represents you and then another color depending on your class, like wizards and bards would have blue for arcane, sorcerers would depend on where their power comes from, clerics and warlock as well
@@ethanwhite2210 My Cleric is very 'Soldier' based, because that was his vocation before he found his religion. His Sacred Flame is a quickly-conjured bow, and he releases an arrow from it that shatters into a burst of shrapnel for the enemy to dodge. His Guiding Bolt is a Dark Souls Greatbow mixed with Zelda/Sheik's Final Smash from Sm4sh for Wii/3DS. His Spiritual Weapon is a copy of the weapon he uses. And his Spirit Guardians are the spirits of his fallen warband, fighting alongside their Commander once more.
Ethan White I have a Sorcerer that uses prismatic spells a lot so I imagine her spells being light, magic missile having each missile be a fractions of light going threw a prism
This piece is....absolutely stunning. Like, I can't get over how gorgeous this is. I liked the video as soon as I saw it was about Paddy but I wish I could like it again solely for the fact that this painting has taken my breath away.
@@ABDIllustrates You absolutely deserve it. I'm a relatively new follower (the High Hopes Low Rolls giant speedpaint was the first video I ever watched) and I can't stop gushing to all of my other art and d&d friends about how great your work is. I know that it's a common fear of creatives that we won't appeal to enough people and I know that I am always worried that people aren't going to enjoy my content because I obsess over my own tieflings, but I see that it's working for you and that's so inspiring. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
I play in a campaign with a whole bunch of Indie Artists from the UK, and I have a Bard called Bailey who recently got burned by a giant angel-hellbeast's radiant attack and now has a whole bunch of burn scars, but also the symbol of Lathander burnt into the palm of her hand. She's now learned to cast revivify and with that, not only would the diamonds used up in the spell end up looking like sparklers, but she'd also have a yellow white light run across the upper ridges of her scars like some kind of river of light.
Cool. I love little details like that. I made a druid a while back with a magic tattoo that catalogued all of his wild shape forms with a intricate forest that added images of the animals that would occasionally move around
I want to have a tiefling bard with very light gray skin and he will use his voice to attack (basically you would imagine his attacks were preformed by singing but would basically just be a normal attack.) And when he sings and he is in light his skin would reflect the light and he would have a little rainbow glow, and when he dances he would flicker in and out of view. It would have no effect but I would love it. He would literally project gay everywhere!
My character for a game starting in the new year is a dwarven Druid. She’s circle of dreams, which means she has this connection with the fey wild but she’s not sure why, because before she got her powers she was just a typical dwarf blacksmith (I’m not sure why either, that’s a mystery for my GM!). So picture a grumpy dwarf covered in pink flower crowns and vines with animals and fey pixies swarming around her
your voice is so soothing to listen to and you give both helpful advice and fun narrative which makes your videos all the more wonderful to watch. Keep up the amazing work, looking forward to the next piece!
Ok, there was this one part where for a moment you removed the dark shading around his eyes, and I was like "Oh, he looks like a big brother who caught you stealing something and wants it back." Then you put the shading back on and it then became "Nope, he's downright scary!" LOL
I kind of had that feeling with the “dancing lights” cantrip. Like the appearance of the lanterns or glowing entity changing depending on the caster. My tiefling bard once used that cantrip (and the help of an entire city) to convince a demon army that there was a monster called a lumos as a way of faking my character’s death and covering up a murder committed by them.
Wow, i really like this new style of painting! I also like the way you described Paddy’s magic... effect and how it looks. It looks AMAZING!!! Hi. Hope ya having a nice day.
Love the dnd speed paints. In my campaign I play a knowledge cleric gnome, Gimble Timbers, so all of his spells are kind of academically themed. The main thing he does atm is cast Spirit Guardians, which would normally be little angels or cherubs but in my case are tiny books that fly by flapping open and closed. He's not the best cleric in terms of healing but he does keep everyone safe and generally takes on the biggest number of enemies even if they aren't the physically biggest, our paladin is always trying to prove that he can take on the biggest baddest monsters so takes them on head to head. As a scholar Gimble isn't really one to go looking for a fight and has actually tried to lay down his weapons a few times, but, of course there is always more trouble and to make sure other people are safe, he walks off to fight, well we have to walk now, our airship got blown up. Anyway that's a dnd ramble, keep up the great content.
I'd never really thought about each individual having, like, specific aesthetics for their magic, but I absolutely adore the idea and that's something I'm going to try to work into my games when describing my player's actions. The attention you give to small details blows me away. This makes me want to do better with my own art. Plus, watching your High Hopes content helped me get inspired to get a small d&d group together at school, and this just makes me more excited for things to come in the campaign! Amazing work, A+

The booming blade is one of these spells for me. I play a swashbuckler with a hint of a warlock, so I imagine electric charges jumping from the sword and then as you hit the target they jump over to the target like a cage of sorts. But for some reason, I always see them in neon green.

I really wanted to thank you for what you said about trial/error and failure because I have never really thought about it that way and it’s something that has kept me from experimenting with my art. Watching your videos and hearing about your process always reminds me of how fun and exciting art can be! Thank you again! Also, I absolutely love paddy’s aesthetic and I really liked the new style that you tried it’s absolutely stunning!
If I may add onto the light tip: I have learned that it is the temperature of the light that effects the temperature of the shadow (for example, sunlight is orange/yellow while the shadows are a dark blue/ purple or red light would have a green tinted shadow, basically opposites on the color wheel). Your artwork is very inspiring and beautiful, and the new style in the video looks so cool!
Firstly: I am absolutely in love with your art style, voice and your DND campaign with your friends. I am apart of my own campaign and this speaks to me so much. Please keep up the amazing work! Especially if its something you love. Secondly: The idea of each individual having a visual aesthetic for their spells that relates to them is something I think about as well. My current character, Viknak, is a rogue assassin and knows similar spells. Two he knows, that I personally visualise, are Blur and Disguise Self. Viknak is a character inspired by shadows and his skillset and spells reflect that. So whenever he uses either, I visualise shadows creep towards his figure to surround his body and crawl across his limbs, blurring his outline and almost seeming to melt into any shadows, even that of allies or enemies. But the only thing that doesn't change is his glowing golden eyes, even when the shadows recede and he's a completely different person, those solid gold orbs never change. Anyway, I love your work and just wanted to share the thoughts I had in regards to this particular work. Good luck!
I had(still playing as him)an Eladrin warlock(hex blade) name Kik who love to cast sword burst by summoning a sword and dropping it to the ground, sprouting multiples blades around him and attacking. It was fun to describe how I cast sword burst. Kik also like to teleport(thunder step, fey step, and misty step) and actually hide his true name which is shared with his patron.
I myself have just started to play DnD with some friends! When I first heard about the game I was so interested. The visuals are amazing here, I feel like I could reach out and touch his hand! My character is a Beast Conjuring Tabaxi, named Zosar. I love envisioning what it looks like when he summons a beast, and because of this I'm considering drawing it. Keep being amazing! Happy playing!
#notificationsquad I’m finally here early for once! I’m excited Edit; your voiceover was great! Your voice is so calming and soothing, it was just really relaxing to watch and listen to the speedpaint!
I've only been on your channel for around 8 months but I can't describe how infatuated I am with it. Your voiceovers and art style are so soothing, as a 14-year-old artist and someone who's barely started D&D, I am so inspired by you. Your style is simply gorgeous and it's as soothing as your voice. I could watch your videos all day (I have done that before), and I just want to let you know (If you see this that is) that you are one of the few artists I look up to the most, and that I aspire to be like one day. Please keep creating! I will always keep checking in to see what else you have in store for me.
""I always imagine that people's magic in game will always reflect the person casting it and the sort of visual as a character" I always imagined it that way too. That or their magic looking completely opposite of them for comedic reasons. Like how we always drew our extremely violent and emo rouge with flowery pinkish bright magic. Or us drawing our happy go lucky bard with metal and violent spells. good times
In the DnD campaign that I play with my friends, I play an Half-Orc cleric of the Arcane Domain. His name is Goza Manyfaiths, when he casts his spells the Divine energy is silver and gold. Cause In the campaign there is two major faiths; Menny its holy symbol is a silver olive branch, and Yangin which is a golden bull. Goza is a cleric of both these faiths, he has a silver olive branch pierced in his right ear and a golden bull in his left. When he casts spiritual weapon it is a giant gold book with silver pages that he slams into his enemies. Love your art work by the way falling in love with Paddy and the rest of High Hopes Low Rolls looking forward to more!
I actually thoroughly enjoyed the more chilled out and non scripted type of voice over, you did an amazing job btw~ crown of madness is a spell i love seeing in action especially when it works XD
I adore the little tips and tricks you talk about, as well as context for why you draw things in certain ways! It made me feel more connected to Patty and his character as a whole! Keep up the amazing work, and I love the voice over for the speed paints. Context for a drawing being put into the artists own words make a big difference rather than reading it. Much love and support!
I must say, this is one the most visually appealing paintings ive seen from you. I found myself staring at it long after the video ended. Its absolutely striking and i love paddys character. This inspired me alot as well
Absolutely love the art and the concept behind it! It's amazing how you have woven in Paddy's motif of autumn leaves into his spellcasting, particularly in the ethereal visual look it creates!
After this amazing art piece, I'm sorta curious to see your interpretation of Wonderland (or maybe the Voidfish) from The Adventure Zone! I know it literally has the exact opposite aesthetic to this piece, but that's kinda what got me thinkin'. Well...either way, I heckin' LOVE THIS!!
idk if I'd necessarily say that the spell itself has a very distinct visual but my dm provided the coolest visual for it. So I play a bard and long story short we ended up in a swamp and became absolutely SWARMED by kobolds. Seeing that we'd probably never get through all of them and being the only person in our party with an aoe spell (we were level 3 at the time) I told my party to get the heck out of my way and a ran up to the kobolds for maximum carnage. My dm then describes me running up and rockstar sliding into the water, lute in hand, and as I strum my lute and my fingers hit the water I cast thunderwave sending a giant wave through the water and killing most of the kobolds that stood in our way. I may not be our heaviest hitter but damn I get to do some really cool shit sometimes.
Yeah, I've noticed with bards in particular that they're really good at delivering those last-minute Hail Mary attacks when the chips are down. Super versatile and work extremely well with an imaginative and risk-taking player. That sounds awesome :)
I used to play a bard half elf, and whenever she used any sort of thunder spell (thunder wave, thunder shock, thunder clap) I liked to imagine wind picking up around her as she played her flute. Spells in dnd are great to imagine, theres so many ways they can be pictured, especially when personalizing them to your character. Absolutely stunning drawing, I really love the lighting!
Shit, I'm early Gotta say something Stories of this campaign make me wanna play D&D more and get better at playing... Maybe even get good enough to DM one day... Thanks for the inspiration!
Halfway through this video my brain was like "wait thats The Arcana music." Love your art and imagination btw. Also thank you for explaining what you do its really neato
This painting came out looking really lovely! The glow around the ethereal leaves was such a nice touch. I really love Paddy's autumn aesthetic, and the idea of having his spells reflect autumn leaves is really cool! I've actually got a Gnome Wizard in the works who has a space aesthetic since she's taken the Sage background with the astronomer specialty. She has a cooler palette with a lot of muted gold accents, and her spells are all starry or otherwise space-themed (for example, her fire bolt is more like a comet than actual fire) I love her to bits, and I hope to find a game to play her in some day. :D
Omg, you're so sweet! You can't fail, you can only improve is just the most wonderful and encouraging thing I've never heard before! You're such a wonderful person, thank you for that.
This is amazing! I love how the leaves stand out against the rest of the painting, and how they have an ethereal look! I absolutely love Paddy's design aswell
Paddys facial expression makes me feel like he's casting against someone he cares about and he's trying to tough his way through it. I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS AAAAHH
Finished watching and I have to say I love the end result. I'm that "but I know I'll message up" type of artist so I know I gotta get over it and try! Also, I highly enjoy your voiceovers. May also be that I enjoy the way your voice sounds if that isn't weird to say lol. Either way, keep up the fantastic work!
I don't know how long I've been following your art for now but it still manages to take my breath away everytime I watch your speedarts or see your art on other social medias. So amazing and such an inspiration to me!
I admit I’m neither an artist nor a critic, but this is amazing. The level of detail and the time taken is astounding. I have no words, other than (however much it means coming from a stranger on the internet) a job extremely well done.
I'm really love the new style, I always feel like you manage to find a lovely balance between using lots of warn colours but not to the point where it feels overly saturated or insanely colourful. Your drawings and processes are also hugely inspirational and just like to say thanks as you've helped me improve so much this year!
This is so gorgeous! I already loved Paddy, and I do even more now. Also, I really enjoyed the voice-over in the video. I'm always more likely to watch someone's entire video if they're talking about their process and the context while they're doing it. Can't wait to see more of High Hopes!
My breath was absoultely taken away and my heart was stolen by this!!! I adore this type of voiceover thing as you draw, and I love High Hopes Low Rolls!!!!! Keep up the fantastic work!!!!!!!
Ohh I love every part of this. I have an ice-magic sorcerer and I've never really thought in detail about the imagery of her spells but I love ice and snow and winter aesthetics so describing stuff so vividly as you did was a major rush of inspiration for me imagining her! I'd love to hear more about your campaign just from this character as well!
I did enjoy the voice over! I especially appreciate as someone just getting into digital art that you talk about how you are doing things i feel very overwhelmed sometimes with how much there is and I appreciate all the info on how you create your art.
This is amazing--the way your piece evolved was mesmerizing. It's incredible the difference that colors and shading makes (particularly around the face and eyes): early on, Paddy looks rather stern and imposing, but the way that shading progressed near the end of the work he seems more solemn and even regretful.
Paddy looks somber yet intimidating. I love the expression and mood of the piece, its beautifully scary. If you take the name of the spell it looks like he's going mad, like the crown is affecting him and changing his personality. Its amazing dude
I- woah, this entire drawing is just AESTHETIC- and the way you talk about Paddy makes me all excited to get to know him! You're just so heartfelt about it, it's heartwarming and amazing
this is absolutely gorgeous it blows my mind how far fantasy style art has come from way back from D&D 1st edition, or even some of the other older fantasy style games such as mtg when it first came out. all in all keep up the good work

Your artwork is very inspiring and beautiful, and the new style in the video looks so cool!
heLL YEAH ive been craving some sweet High Hopes content!!
This is so great! Great work, man!
Good luck!
"I have no concept of time."
👌
I’m excited
Edit; your voiceover was great!
Or us drawing our happy go lucky bard with metal and violent spells. good times
I love his expression in this and your description of how you think every character's magic looks different
This style is gorgeous! I just love the lighting and colour and EVERYTHING
I have been rewatching all you videos all day, school work psh I don’t know her.
Paddy is an edgelord whimsical god, and this is beautiful ❤❤❤
Seriously your amazing. Any tips on art like bodies and stuff. Composition too maybe. Sorry hope I didn’t brother you have a nice day!!!
I actually thoroughly enjoyed the more chilled out and non scripted type of voice over, you did an amazing job btw~ crown of madness is a spell i love seeing in action especially when it works XD
Can we tag you if we do high hopes low rolls fanart?
absolutely! I'd love to see it :D
6:15 that arcana music kicked in and I lost my mind
I must say, this is one the most visually appealing paintings ive seen from you. I found myself staring at it long after the video ended. Its absolutely striking and i love paddys character. This inspired me alot as well
This is so amazing💜 The colors are really pretty!!!
Also is that music from 'The Arcana'? 😂
I was looking through the comments to see if anyone knew about it lol
Im like "why are there no views" but then I realized you posted this just 5 minutes ago 😂
I am excite
“i think i know how to do that” *icon pops up* “i do know how to do that!” that was so cute lmao love your art 💕💕
I want a "High Hopes Low Roles" cartoon or anime
Your voice over vids are my absolute favorites! Please, more voice overs; it adds so much flavor to the content!
Shit, I'm early
Gotta say something
Stories of this campaign make me wanna play D&D more and get better at playing...
Maybe even get good enough to DM one day...
Thanks for the inspiration!
Halfway through this video my brain was like "wait thats The Arcana music." Love your art and imagination btw. Also thank you for explaining what you do its really neato
YES ANOTHER! ANOTHER!
Well that looks pretty
Omg, you're so sweet! You can't fail, you can only improve is just the most wonderful and encouraging thing I've never heard before! You're such a wonderful person, thank you for that.
168th like (TOTALLY FIRST) ALSO I LOVE UR ART >-< im an artist and ive loved watching you and im a “bit” jelous of ur skill 😓😓
This is amazing! I love how the leaves stand out against the rest of the painting, and how they have an ethereal look! I absolutely love Paddy's design aswell
😮teach me your ways...
...plz😐
a r m y ?
deli Yesssssss I am!
Paddys facial expression makes me feel like he's casting against someone he cares about and he's trying to tough his way through it. I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS AAAAHH
I clicked on this video so fast
Finished watching and I have to say I love the end result. I'm that "but I know I'll message up" type of artist so I know I gotta get over it and try! Also, I highly enjoy your voiceovers. May also be that I enjoy the way your voice sounds if that isn't weird to say lol. Either way, keep up the fantastic work!
I don't know how long I've been following your art for now but it still manages to take my breath away everytime I watch your speedarts or see your art on other social medias. So amazing and such an inspiration to me!
Stop flexing your drawing skills on us
This a joke
Your voice is so relaxing?!! I love listening to you talk and explain your videos as well as your overall style is just INCREDIBLE! Keep going!
'An autumn leaf crown on an angry squid'
Wow. What an image....
And all the shading...damn. The light source is everywhere...
