- Part 2 A G class swaps ends with the Inter Capital Daylight Express, helped by the 73 class yard shunter and many other great captures in clouding cleaning procedures of the XPT and some surprises.
As part of the normal workings that crews had to perform was the run around which was changing Ends of the train at the terminal with the help of the yard shunter.
The train would come into the station let the passengers out, then the loco would be uncoupled and the yard shunter would pull the train forward. The loco would then run into the middle road and the train pushed back into position by the shunter. The lead loco would then move forward and reattach to the other end of the train. This video and the next in this two part series, show this procedure.
Don't miss part 1

A bit of history 😊
Sure is. Thanks Trevor. 👍
Opening scene with the two parcel vans triggered some memories of "Blue Spot" and "Track Fast" parcels. The old days when everyone went for a beer at the Journalists Club or Graphic Arts Club on pay night. Great cab tour of the XPT, they looked best in the original colour scheme back then. Great work Barrie.
I might compile a video dedicated to those cars and service, I'm not sure how much I have on them but it's worth looking at. Always a surprise when one rattled past.
I clicked off the video and came back straight away because I forgot to leave a like! Great footage of run around operations that Sydney will never regularly see again. This video shows many trains and liveries that we’ll never see again, so it’s excellent that they have been captured on camera so that the past of our railways won’t be forgotten. Excellent video Barrie, can’t wait to see what’s next 😊
Hi Coolsoap8, thanks so much, I really appreciate you going back in to like it, without sounding like a UA-camr, it all helps with the UA-cam gods. My whole channel is all about memories and history, thanks again for watching.
Nice video, thanks for posting.
Hi Jason, thanks a lot. 😃👍
fantastic video, great to see the old mixed consist of the ICD. VR Carriages with V/line & also Candy
I agree, it is good to see the old videos of a time when you could get more diversity. Thanks for watching
Thank you, Barrie. (No.3) This is incredible. I only found out recently of this video clip. A trip down memory lane. Thank you.
Hey no problem, I'm sure there are more floating around. I'll tag you in any new ones. By the way, have you got any idea what you said? It's distorted in the video. I'm glad to share it with you. 👍
@trainspottingwithbarrie When I was typing the comments, I was thinking of asking you the same thing: What was the discussion about?
Hahaha it remains a mystery for the ages, I remember it had been going a while.
Hi Barrie, I found the other part to this video, travelling down on the 73 class with another shunter. Thanks
81's were quite advanced for their time!
They really were, I agree. Thanks for watching
THE RICHMOND ROCKET 🚂 I remember catching it from Parra to Blacktown once or twice😂
Hi Ian. That must be a great memory. Thanks for sharing.
Was it standard practise to run with locos and carriages from both railways?
Hi Greg, yeah there was a share agreement between crews locos and rolling stock. Thanks for watching
3:35 what did he say?
Hi Bandit, that's the big question, I'm not sure, I actually asked him last week and he's not sure either. 😂
Old Sydney was steeped in character and . The rot was about to begin the next year and continues now.
Really gone downhill since 2000
I agree completely, definitely a good time for Sydney.
