This rhythm from the Ghostbusters theme will break your brain

- How did the Ghostbusters theme song become a number 1 hit? Maybe it has something to do with that wailing funk siren on the bridge - and the cool 4-over-3 polyrhythm it plays against the beat. In this video we break down that rhythm and why it's so effective.

This video is such good quality. This has to blow up!
Thanks!!
I COMPLETELY agree!!
i love polyrhythms
Brilliant. Thank you. Grade 7/8 love it.
such a well-made vid with unusually clear & comfortably-paced explanations. bravo!! & thank you!!
Bro Just watched J.W's interval lecture which my friend referred me to. It was awesome and just watch Hook 2 days ago and got exited to know his theme was built on Tritone which I had no idea when to use when I was only reading Walter Piston's book. Thanks and keep it up because you are 2 legit 2 quit!
A remix of the Ghostbusters theme by Neil Cicierega simply titled "Bustin" extends this polyrhythm, which I think is also cool.
First time viewer to you channel. Very well done video on a micro-micro-topic -- but of great interest to me! I've always wondered about the syncopation of this catchy little section in the tune, but never took the time to figure it out. Thank you for doing the figuring for me. I'm going to check out more of your videos.
Sometimes you can learn the most from a song by going deep on the tiniest little moment or section. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and hope you find other stuff you like as well!
This is totally an example that's easier by feel! I can do bass on one foot, snare on a hand, and sing the synth line. Would never have thought of it as a polyrhythm!
Another fun example: If you tap out three against two, you get Carol of the Bells.
I agree!!
Thank you for the analysis. What is the underscore that is used during the intro and @7:38? Thank you for the help.
Something custom we made
Very well-produced video, though I can't say it "broke my brain"! Might be because I'm a musician but I have absolutely no problem tapping multiple rhythms like this at any tempo.
Haha, yep, you're right - our apologies, it IS certainly a little clickbait-y. But we're trying to get views and for some reason this sort of title still works. Also, that's great! A lot of people trouble with 4-against-3, so good for you!
4:3 is used more than you'd think in pop music.
Got any other good examples to share? Would love to see 'em!
