Over here in Australia we had the Yankee model W6 then we built our own. They were called the AW6 petrol and the AWD6 diesel, then after a few years they made the AWD7 diesels. They made a 7 petrol model too but only a few. The 7s had a wider back wheel track, power steering, a different tubular front axle and updated bearings in the ass end of them. The diesel 6s and 7s were diesel only, not started on petrol like the Yankee jobs. They had glow plugs to warm things up a little, and indirect injection. Rated at 54 hp. They all sat on 18.4 x 30, And the 7s had a much wider rim. The next model was called the 554, more or less identical but with a different grill,, different seat set up, live pto, and again upgraded bearings in the gearbox and final drives. Later ones also went on to a rotary injector pump. The next model after the 554 was called the 564, different grill again and bigger 18 inch rims on the front. Same motor and ass end. The same motor was used in all of these model with the only difference being the rotary pump. They were very popular in Aust and the 7s were once called King of the wheat fields. They had a great motor in them, very fuel efficient and could lug and keep on lugging and not give up. We own a Yankee W6, a Aussie petrol Aw 6, a AWD6, a AWD7, a 554 and one that started life as a AWD7 but to keep her going she is a mixture of all models stuck together. I still use ours for ploughing firebreaks, spraying firebreaks, raking and feeding out round bales. Great little tractors.
Good day Steve Owen. I'm from Ont. Canada we used to have Super W-6 gas. Very informative explaination of Aussie tractors. Did any of those tractors have ta on. Up here that was a big seller,it gave you 10 speeds instead of regular 5. Thanks for now
heres a little info on IH diesel engines, When IH wanted to build a Diesel they went to Europe and got help from R diesel company to help them build one, this is why they ran so good they were true Diesels
Watching him lean down on the crank handle instead of pulling up made me think the same thing, there's been many broken arms when tne engine spat back 😣
A Diesel engine with spark plugs! (maybe it had an identity problem) We had one of these on our farm a long time ago. Start up on gasoline, and switch to diesel when it has warmed up.
One of my fellow pupils came to school and fir Morning Talk told the class his dad had just bought a new diesel tractor with spark plugs. The teacher really made a spectacle out if him (which was very wrong) . However it wasnt the only thing that was wrong. The teacher didnt know about WD-9s
I loved those old girls. They did the work and lasted forever.
