@@zfunk123 believe it or not,.. I was actually out delivering food during the hurricane. My wife didn’t approve but there wasn’t any competition out so I had a good payday.
On top of what you said, today’s kids don’t go outside in the morning to see how far they can get on their bicycles before the street lights come on, so they never really develope a sense of adventure. They just live vicariously through their phones, and that’s all they want to do.
Carbs weren't as bad as people make them out to be these days, just give everything a clean once a year and don't let the bike sit unused. Im not a huge fan of multi carbs though I prefer them on thumpers. Today's more casual rider does get some benefit from EFI as the bike can sit unused for longer periods but people who ride a lot can get along just fine with a carb.
Rain LOL Not here in Vegas. Waited all summer and still waiting to ride anytime throughout the day. 101° today. I get fine dust in my airbox but never any water. Both bikes look stunning as usual.

I never made a connection between the rituals of inconvenience regarding vehicles, and I'm not convinced on that, but man, it's so true about records. Going to the record store, getting home putting it on the turntable, dropping the needle and hearing those little pops and crackles on the lead-in groove. And it was too inconvenient to just listen to one track or to skip around on an album. When I put an album on I listened to the whole thing. And liner notes. It was such a real experience. But WRT vehicles, I think it's technology for sure, but the inconvenience is in the cost. When I was a kid you could get a $200 car that would get you places and until I was about 19 or so you didn't even have to have insurance. And when stuff broke, you could fix it or get your dad or your uncle or your mom's 23 year old boyfriend Ray to help you fix it. You buy a cheap car today you pay $5k and a month later the manifold gasket is leaking and mixes coolant and oil. The transmission blows up and you may as well junk it. So given that people have less need to even go anywhere because they are doing social stuff online and they can take Uber if they do need to be somewhere, it's not worth it for many.
I’m finished with cars for that very reason, I cannot believe the expense that cars have become. My wife on the other hand is convinced that life can’t be lived without a car that is new enough that it requires a car payment.
I've had similar conversations with my mates, my two sons both in their 20's are not bothered about cars or bikes, both have cars but have no interest in maintaining or doing anything with them, normally bring them to me if anything goes wrong. On the bike front, what about a Yamaha SR250, old school, decent looking bike. Great video. Thanks 👍
My idea of remote camping on my 650 Interceptor is the TV remote at the local Motel 6 or Super 8.... For solo camping in the boonies... I have my 2011 RE Bullet 500 with a Cozy sidecar.... besides loading the bike... I can pack the sidecar with EVERYTING ... pack it all flat... sleeping bag.. ect ect ... pack in order of camp set up... at the top... ground cloth... then tent.... queen sized air mattress,,,,, 2 pillows,,, sheets.... etc etc... 😎
A vehicle at 16 represented adulthood and freedom and unchaperoned dating. It expanded your job opportunities and number of hours you could work. Then at 18 you could just grab your diploma and hit the road and live a life of adventure. That was the dream, anyway. Gen Zers don't dream of such things.
I agree. Remember when you had to pump the accelerator a couple of times before you started the car? Or let it high idle for a bit before you goosed the gas pedal to disengage the choke? YOU were an essential part of getting the car to run. Its no wonder all these young kids are enfatuated with electric vehicles and self driving cars. New cars and fuel injected motorcycles remove the person from mastery over the machine. Even electic lawn mowers are removing that control over the machine from the person. When a person gives up control to the machine you will get nihilism. What use is man then?
The new generation not into riding . My thoughts is its depends on demographic as west and some of asia like japan and korea they are not into bikes as the number of tounger people are less and other point is they see bikes as a source of transport. But in india and other younger demographic country bikes are mode of transport but also an aspiration. For example your gt 650 is a dream of many younger people india and southeast asia like indonesia, Philippines. In india Royal Enfield have cult like following 😂 specially classic 350 and now gt 650. There is rise of 400cc bikes in india just 2 years ago there were fews options but now its tight competition of competent 400cc bikes, triumph, Aprilia and even harley davidson came up with there 400 cc bikes. It is awesome to choose from so many options. Take care man ❤.
Ritual of inconvenience? Dunno about that, but my kids are afraid of everything. No surprise, with the 24 hour bad news only headlines. Also, youth can't read analog dials, only digital readouts. I thought this was a joke until I saw it in action - it's true....

My KLR and DR are both carbureted. I like it that way

My kids are split (2 daughters), one is adventurous and outdoorsy and the other hasn't seen a blade of grass in years.
The younger generation is risk averse. They spent most of their life on video games and don’t actually risk anything.

When I was at Janus they had a truck bed type sidecar in the lobby,... they wouldn't sell it to me. That thing would be great for camping trips.
