  • Mowing some taller weeds and lawn edge with the Power King. This is a great way to give this machine a little run time.

Great vid !!! I remember mowing and plowing with our old PK when I was a kid 40-45 years ago and wishing we had a cool tractor !!! Guess we really don't know how good we have it when we're young !!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane !!!

I really like how that motor sounds, and I have 1 question: What type of motor is it, and can I fit it in any vintage Farmall or John Deere tractor?

Hope you are still running the old girl! Looks pretty good! Dad was a dealer in the 70s and 80s, sold around 100 i suppose. Ive still got and use the 66 model he initially got hooked on plus a 72 and an 81 model, well, along with 3 deere tracctors as well... Each PK i have set up for a specific task, one with a loader, one with a hyd angle blade, one general purpose. The deere are set up the seme, a 1445 for mowing, an F935 for snow blowing and a gt235 also for mowing.
PKs are and awesome line of tractors, tough, easy to work on and fun to play with.

I still have the Power King, unfortunately it sits most of the time.

Looks like about the same airflow and discharge performance as the JD 46" decks. Upgraded to a 48 inch sourced locally, a lot more airflow and throws grass farther, but I can tell it works the machine a little harder!

Hmm...I have a 1982 Power King with the 48" Simplicity Deck. I rebuilt all spindles, all new pulleys, belts blades etc. Overall Id say I was a little unimpressed with it...Doesn't seem to cut all that great and the 16hp engine is maybe a little underpowered for the mower. (I think I'd struggle to mow that tall grass you seem to be cutting)
A neat old machine, but now wish I had bought a Gravely Riding tractor instead.

What is that lever in the center closet to the seat? Looking to buy one of these this week but from what I can see it's missing that lever

What a nice old machine. I'm surprised you don't wear hearing protection like ear muffs.
Also, how many tractors do you own? That'd be a video. Or maybe you could do a video on all of the tractors you've owned over the years and talk a little about each.

It’s a lot of fun to operate when I have the time. Generally I do wear ear plugs. In a lot of the JD 1445, X748, 455, 318 etc videos you will see me with plugs in. For short runs with machines I do not run a lot, I normally do not wear them. This allows me to hear the machine and get a feel for it. Once I’ve operated it enough and know the sounds I’ll put plugs in. But, yes, I should wear some type of hearing protection.
Right now I think somewhere between 12-15.... over the past 8 years, probably close to 60 or so. Once I get the shop and she’s organized my plan was to do a video like that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Are you running wide open throttle to mow? Is it customary to run at something different than wide open throttle on these?

I don’t think I was running it at WOT. It was pretty close to it but not all the way there. This one develops an occasional miss at higher RPM’s that I haven’t been able to solve (in the limited time I’ve spent trying to solve it). I’m sure to get any type of quality cut out of the deck you need to run it as fast as it will go!

@@mmrbeef sometimes it’s just old age of the motor, but other times, something else, I am not an expert.

Where’s the sickle bar mower for the 110? That would be made in the shade in my garage if you were selling it lol.

Sell John Deere junk and buy another Power king even the old ones are better than John Deere.
