  • Sure is nice to see the iconic AN-124 again, it has been some time since I saw it last!
Rare visit of Antonov Airline's AN-124 Ruslan to Montreal. This was a special cargo charter flight for Airbus Canada bringing A220 parts for the Airbus factory located at Mirabel.
Prior to the Ukraine war, Antonov AN-124's were a somewhat common sight here at Montreal-Mirabel however they have sadly become fairly are sight here. I believe this is just the 2nd visit of an A124 since the beginning of the war.
You might notice something new by the nose of the aircraft - a "Be brave like Bucha" sticker was applied in September 2022 to remember the victims of the Bucha massacre that took place.
Antonov Airlines is a Ukrainian cargo charter airline part of the Antonov aviation company. The airline caters in the oversized cargo market operating a fleet of AN-22, AN-28, AN-124 and AN-178. Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, exact details on the airline's fleet condition is unknown as several aircraft have been damaged or destroyed in Kyiv including the AN-225 (the world's largest plane).
There are currently 26 civilian Antonov AN-124 still in operation worldwide, 7 of them are operated by Antonov Airlines. AN-124's first flight took place on December 24th 1982. The A124 is still one of the largest aircraft in the world, and is the largest military transport aircraft in service.
The aircraft was designed for strategic heavy airlift capacity for the Soviet Air Force.
This specific A124 started its life with Antonov airlines in 1992 but had a Soviet Union registration (CCCP-82029) but in 1993 the aircraft was re-registered to Ukraine (UR-82029).
    Enjoy!

See the description. Since it was arriving from Belfast, it was probably carrying Airbus A220 parts. The wings and various other A220 parts are built by Spirit Aerosystems in Belfast (formerly a Bombardier facility until sold to Spirit in 2020). The Belfast plant also makes quite a few parts for Bombardier business jets.

Yes. That’s the AN-225 which was sadly destroyed in Kiev. There was only 1 flying, and it was the largest aircraft in the world.
