- Wearing shorts is one of the best ways to stay cool and casual when it's hot outside. Shorts are perfect for weekend shenanigans, dog walks, the beach, the pool, barbecues, picnics, romantic walks in the park…you get the point.
Shorts are inherently casual, but that doesn't mean they have to look adolescent and sloppy. So why do most men look so bad wearing shorts? Well, they're just not wearing them correctly.
Their shorts don't fit properly, and they're not wearing the right styles. This video teaches you how to avoid these mistakes so you look amazing wearing shorts, just like the laid back, stylish gent you really are!

**looks at shorts I own with shame**
😂
I look at my worn out cargo shorts with camoflage pattern with pride
i have cargo shorts of shame 😢
@@ramongabata1972 throw them out
re-watched this video after a year and my style has changed drastically. When I first watched this video I was 5'11 - 280 pounds. I wore around a 9" inch inseam with a 42-inch waist. I'm now around 195 pounds and gravitate towards 5.5-6" inseam with a 34-inch waist. Chubbies is a brand I love, they make southern-frat style shorts that are short but with smaller/muscular thighs they look great!
How did you lose so much weight?
Excellent work man! I’m 6’0”, and at my max I was pushing 330 lbs wearing 46-48 Levi’s, I’m now 175-180 lbs, and wear 32s with ease. I have to agree with the whole style thing, I can’t stand anything past regular fit, back then I was all about relaxed fit, now I lean towards slim all the time. Shorts I can’t do anything past a 8” inseam, 10” at most, but then I cuff them to at least an 8”. It sure is a great feeling, congrats!
Alfred Hernandez congrats! Could you give me some tips to lose weight?
Woah! That's is some serious weight loss
This is awesome!! Totally agree with the fit tips. Shorter shorts are something I'm starting to enjoy more and never thought that I would.
uniqlo and H&M shorts for me
uniqlo always kills it!
I like their kando shorts but damn it's pricey. Kinda have a problem with polo shirts with regards to its length, costs more to go have a fix from a tailor.
I've been meaning to watch this one and finally did, great content. I totally agree, baggy and long shorts look sloppy and make an already short, to mid height person look even shorter and more bulky. I'm at 5'8" and like wearing Ralph Lauren 6" length shorts
For years been buying Shorts from Old Navy all I find is 10 inch shorts. Recently just started going to J Crew Factory I'm like 5'6" started wearing 7 inch shorts and they did went up to my knees I was impressed.
I agree with you. in the summer, shorts are a must.
Absolutely right about everything you said, great advice.
I’ve been very happy with the Target Goodfellow & Co shorts. They are $19 and have a good trim fit with a nice amount of stretch to remain comfortable. They are available in 7”, 9” and 10.5” in a wide range of colors and materials like chino, cotton linen and my favorite chambray. The quality feels decent, although they may shrink some in the wash.
I am 5’9” and have pretty short meaty legs, so I prefer the 7” or 9” with one cuff. I feel like visually it elongates my leg slightly to keep me from looking bottom heavy and dumpy.
Love the content! Keep up the great work!
Just bought a few pairs of these on sale for $15 each, bought a few 7-9 inch ones and I'm really happy with the fit.
That whole collection is so good!
I bought the same shorts at Target too. Nice quality and fit. I went for the 7" leg. I'm 5'7 and longer shorts go below my knees.
Alex Fingerhut I go to target to buy shorts too since I’m 6 ft I buy the 10.5 they sit right at my knee they look great and are really comfortable
I will be buying all my shorts at Target since I'm 5'4" and NEED the 6-7" ones to keep from looking like I'm wearing cargo shorts. And when I wear cargo shorts they look like dumpy capris, like he said. 😂
Perfect styling advice! Tasteful and modern.
I agree with you on how to wear shorts and what not to wear
Wonderful advice, and perspectives! These days it is difficult to find any real shorts for men. The style got high jacked by the ghetto version of something that is in my perspective more like old style English "Nickers" for children. It is almost all you can find these days. I personally like them shorter, even like the traditional tennis shorts. Women get to have variation in length, so what ridiculous designer all of a sudden decided men have to be stuck with one version hanging below their knees. It is crazy!
Good to hear from someone else that likes real short pants for men.
Thanks for addressing the short lengths! I think that's my trouble I'm facing here. I'm 6'1" and I actually wear 7 inch shorts from American Eagle/Hollister (NO name brands shown) as I like that they're somewhat slim fit. But I can't help but feel that my 7 inch shorts are TOO short depending on what tees/shirts I wear (M Tall), so now I'm thinking of getting 9 inch ones for my long legs. I actually got two pairs of 9 inch slim jean shorts from Express, which also happen to be my favorite shorts I truly feel comfortable in. I like to show legs, but I also don't want to look unflattering.
Thankfully in Europe most people wear proper shorts
Finally, thank you Brock been waiting on this for so long.
Really good video, you nailed this topic on the head. In particular it was really good you mentioned the flaring that happens with some shorts. Looks horrible. Thanks!
Love your videos, this one was great as always Brock! As a 5'2''' guy its incredibly hard to find clothes that fit and these videos help give me a guideline and look presentable.
P.S. I gotta agree with you on the length of shorts, anything longer looks odd
I’m really happy that you taught me to wear shorts
i do love wearing slim shorts just because I do like the style of it!
I found really nice fit and quality shorts in vans for 25 bucks, really recommend them. Nice video!
All excellent, sound advices. Thumbs up
I must share this with some of my friends that don’t know how to wear proper shorts 👌🏽👌🏽
Great stuff Brock, timely too!
Thank goodness for this upload. For years I've been putting them on my head!
Great video Brock! I’ve started wearing chino shorts with a cuff, love the look & vibe they bring.
Very nice!
Awesome info thank you so much!
Definitely wanted a video dedicated to this. I have a couple of BR shorts that I like, but they recently changed their lengths and I'm not a huge fan anyone. Will give those topman shorts a look!
I think you’ll like them 👍🏻
U always giving good advice thanks :)
Agree! Good advice on wearing shorts.
Thanks a lot for this video
I learned a lot😁
Haha, What you said about cargo shorts was very funny, great video as always, cheers
thanks for the tips bro
You're absolutely right especially when one has nothing to be ashamed of to show his legs.. Moreover the wide safari things tend to react and flip upon movement and perhaps requiring adjustment upon sitting.. Haha
Nice tips👏 thanks for that👌
I just started wearing short shorts for the summers. Not only do I feel more comfortable and confident in them, but I also feel and look more taller and fitter because I’m quite a short guy; 5’ 8” to be exact.
There’s nothing wrong with wearing patterned or ripped shorts. As long as your top contrasts it, you’re fine.
Example: plain Black fit V neck shirt with a ripped (destressed) denim shorts or visa versa with patterned and so forth.
Never thought so much about shorts. I wear Army print cargo shorts that are past the knee and wide. Maybe it's time for an upgrade.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Mabuhay!❤🇵🇭
Hey new subriber here ..yeah i agree about you told in this video..am a fashion in the Philippines with dry weather 🌞🌞so i always wear shorts coz it's comfortable and very stylish special in plain color..😊😊😊
I love your tips
Great tips! I agree with everything said here, but the hard part is finding shorts that fit these criteria. Almost everywhere I go, the shorts are either too long and baggy, or extremely tight and feminine.
friendly76 shorts ARE feminine
Mick9 😂😂😂 such a sad worldview
come to Asia every where shorts so skinny haha
go to tailor man . sometime fit on the hip but too long . lenght is good but the hip too small .
some time you are lucky and find one brand fit you
100% agree to ur ideas
Solid colors are always a safe bet for sure. By the way, you look great!
Great advice with no pretense 😎
I totally agree
Thanks for your movies
Help me so much !
Thanks !
Nice man......well.explained....
modestman always got our backs 👌🏻. Was actually gonna go shop for some shorts, this made it easier
👊🏼
This was helpful!
great vid brock! i think you nailed it on the head here, the big problem is that although a lot of ppl have hopped on the short-shorts train, the taper is still very crucial to getting a slim silhouette. do you have any brand recommendations?
Thank u Sir for your advice
Nice channel. Good info. Thanks. Became a subscriber by now.
Salmon Pink/Coral Slim Chino Shorts are pretty much a men's wardrobe staple these days here in England, I love them. And they're usually a pair from Next, if any Brits are interested
This was Good video!
thanks for this unique idea in men fashion statement.. 😉
awesome video Brock it was awesome meeting you at Menfluential your lighting is A1
You too, sir! Hope to see you again sometime 👍🏻
What are your thoughts on Flat Front, Classic Fit or Atwood shorts? Having a hard time finding Chino shorts in my stores in my area
Good perspectives here. I see so many shorts that have huge leg openings and are way too long. I found Mossimo and Merona (brands) shorts to be a great fit for me. Used to be sold at Target.
I’m so agree man...😊😊😊
Gap chino shorts are my favorite 9inch
I agree that chino shorts or flat front shorts look better with polo shirts or for a more professional look, however cargo shorts have their place in the world too. I've received compliments on my stone island cargo shorts
I like Reef brand. I have skinny legs too and they fit nicely...great length too. They are also light weight, don’t wrinkle, and breathe well. Spendy but worth it. Oh, and they come with a drawstring in case you want to go in the water (I don’t live near a beach so I remove the drawstring).
I do agree with the most of your points except cargo shorts! ... It's very popular and practical moreover some brands make it looks so cool
love the lonely island homage yesss
Great tips!!!
elastic shorts are my favorite my question what is the best shorts for collage 😎😎😊😊
Great ideas! 👍👍
I have dark knees and likes to wear shorts that shows my knees and I don't care what other people say.
My hear is hairy as hell 😂
@@kerbyvalenzuela4210 lol mine to but shaving makes it look more weird kind of women legs
Dark knees wth lol.
Would you recommend a short man ( 5.5) to wear a pair or timberland? Thanks
What do you think of ZARA brand? Are they worth it?
You just got a new subscriber.
I agree with the cargo though i used one of those but rarely put something on the pockets heehhe
Hi! I enjoyed your tips, and they're mostly what I've heard over recent years. I must admit to liking cargo shorts as well. I never use the pockets (I always have a bag with all of my necessary take-alongs), but I find good fitting cargos very sexy. And shorter shorts tend to make a guy look a little more juvenile, in my opinion - but I wouldn't wear shots below the knee!
If you have thick legs and you get cold easily, you can get away with wearing cargo shorts. I have skinny legs and I sweat very easily, so I’d look stupid wearing them and I’d feel so hot that I might as well wear cargo pants.
Love your hairstyle bruv
I have been looking for several years for shorts that end above my knees. Mine are all just blow the knee. Is it my size? I am big. I wear 42 -44 waist at 6' tall.
Good objective presentation, thanks.
I think full guide on how to order a suit online would be nice idea for a video.
What about gym clothes? According to you which one should be used and not used
I like short shorts. Like what was commonplace in the 70s and early 80s.
@Love made in Japan To right!
Spot on! I have slim legs so the only way i can wear shorts is the way ypu describe them.
EXCELLENT VIDEO BROCK!
what about shorts for taller skinnier guys like m? My legs aren't really my issue, I think they look fine, but I hate wearing t shirts and polos or anything that shows off my arms. Would a rolled up dress shirt and loafers be fine?
Yes that would be fine.
Nice.. thank you
i agree i have grey blue and tan can i wear polo shirt
I'm 173 cm tall, would ASOS chino shorts be right for me?
I agree with most everything you said but some plaid patterns are nice - if they're not too busy. I hate cargo shorts and that's what many stores carry. Found some good shorts at Target this year. 7" leg. I'm 5'7 so a shorter leg looks better.
I've found my sweet spot to be 8.5", unfortunately, there aren't many shorts (cargos specifically) at this inseam length.
I like chubbies, they make 5.5" and 7" and are fairly reasonably priced. You can get cheaper shorts at JCPenney, they sell 7" or 8" shorts for less. Both fit similarly on me, I'm 6'1" or so with medium sized legs.
What a great video! I agree with the shorts assessments. Cargo shorts need to be burnt and done away with
Thank u ...
Great vidoe
Good stuff...vid works well as a refresher! One of best shorts are Bonobos and JCrew shorts. Always my go-to in terms of great value, options and colors options for my shorts shopping. Bonobos has alot of color options too! And the quality of Bonobos is just superb!
Great!!!
This explains why I was so visually offended by a man the other day. His shorts were the equivalent of a tea length dress on a woman, paired with sneakers and socks, and a shirt that covered his butt. It looked as though he was missing a few feet in height!
All of this is to say, I appreciate your technical breakdowns and explaining why proportions are important.
Yikes you’re that easily offended by someone wearing clothing that they like?
Please make a video about which shoes and socks to wear with shorts!
Will do!
Vans or boat shoes with no show socks.
I wear sneakers and socks that match the color of the shorts. Looks ok to me.
No long socks with shorts. It's not a great look and not sure why guys do it. always short socks to the ankle with shorts.
Joe you push the socks down a few inches.
Ya know when I walk around going about my business Im not judging other people and what they should or shouldnt be wearing. But thats just me.
You said you researched what short length should be. What does that entail exactly?
Hi Brock. Thanks for a very helpful video. I'm 5'6". What inseem length would be about one inch above the knee in my case? I don't think I'd be too comfort going shorter.
Probably 7, 8 or 9, depending on your proportions.
At 5'6", 5.5" inseam shorts are my favorite! Especially chubbies and bearbottoms.
Same
those sounds like cootie cutters
I’m only 5’2 so would 6 inch shorts be the best if i want them 1-2 inches above my knee caps?
Amazing video, and I completely. I quite like the dockers "perfect short" on Amazon for anywhere from $17 to $25, it comes with a smartphone pocket on the side that's quite convenient. I have 3 pairs, in grey, navy and khaki that have served me well for some time. They finish above the knee but I double cuff mine for a better look and feel. You can check it out guys.
I really enjoyed the video! Shorts are tuff to get the size right, but once you get a good pair your set for summer! I do hold on to my cargos since I am a dad with kids.. I need those extra pockets to hold tickets, phones, and whatever dad things I need to carry. Again, great video!
