I am so impressed by your control system. I didn’t know they made water column switches. What a good idea. I had to laugh when you called that pole a telephone pole. I will never forget my first day on the job at an electric utility company I called a power pole a telephone pole got made fun of big time. I worked there 36 years and never made that mistake again. It’s your pole call it what you like it just brought old memories.
Briefly worked in a corrugated paper box factory. I made the mistake of calling it cardboard one day. The forklift driver yelled at me "It's corrugated paper, cardboard is a cereal box!!!".
Haha The cows would pull the spark plug wires off of the tractor when we were trying to feed them. Just be glad they aren't goats, they would be standing on top of the pump. Keep up the good work Zach !!!
Cows are also rough on center pivot irrigation systems. If there is a loose motor lead the cows will find it and tear it out of the motor. Guys around here either have a spot to park the pivot where they can fence it off or they use panels like you did and fence off the fragile components.
Love those tee shirts with the comical sayings. I can see a cow chewing up the red hose as well, probably in a upcoming video. Keep em rolling Zack... good stuff
Cattle favorite food is trailer light cable and plug. If not available spark plug wires on gas tractors good too. Looks like you got a yummy red hose treat there. My best weapon is a cheap solar electric fencer.
I used an Insert type capacitance Liquid Level Transmitter on tanks when I worked as an I&E electrician years ago. They worked well and never gave me any problems. You could also simply use a couple of float switch to turn the pump on or off. I don’t think that that orange level switch will give you good service in that type of environment. If you tied a capacitance level probe back to a small plc it could automate the system and give you more reliability and communication with your scada system.
We have a lot of lighting and generally any type of in tank switch is a bad idea as the lighting will arc from the switch or sensor to the saltwater and ignite the gas in the tank. Even with a plc powered stuff the lighting will arc through everything.
... you gotta add pro-fess-ional video-operator to your re-su-may !! ... This is quite the set up, Zach ... thanks for putting this one on your channel !! Keep on pump'n that Texas Crude !!
Good video. I have heard that salt water injection well failure can damage ground water wells used by homes. On our property in Oklahoma, we have a decades old operating injection well. There are differences betseen it and the one you show. The main difference is that a low dike has been built around the tank in case of tank failure. There was also a pond built nearby in case of a massive salt water leak. Luckily, the pond has never been used and is home to wildlife at present. There are two groundwater wells on the property that supplied homes in the past. As these have not been used in quite a few years, they would need to be tested before being used again. As to the T-posts, you could never drive these in the limestone filled soil around my house!
@@TheZachLife Thanks, I have photos of the oil wells on the property but not the injection well. From what I know from growing up in a old Oklahoma oil field and from my dad working more than 40 years as a workover rig foreman, your videos are very good.
I hate to tell you this after buying that expensive water column switch. But we had trouble with tank sludge and those hydrostatic switches wouldn’t trip. We switched to simple cheap float switches and have had 90% less issues.
Fortunately the 1st Sargent saw the steer run up out of the ditch and smash the right side mirror on the truck. They also would hook the clothes and pull them off the clothes line. Best thing was stepping in a fresh pie in your flip flops on the way to the head. Camp Garcia, Vieques PR circa 1973.
why are all the vids so short? (thats a compliment) i can understand the de-complexifying edits. but even those vids could be longer. :) Also, Thanks :)
800 bucks for something you could do with 50-100 dollars worth of a pressure gauge and an arduino, granted it would be a development project so might cost more than 800 bucks initially
Never been too crazy about those Murphy switches, seems like the needle/pins always get a bit corroded. Had better luck with Major head switches provided one flushes them out fairly regular. But....in the oilpatch nothing is trouble free.
Cattle are probably seeking something to scratch their itchy sides on..doesn't look like there is a tree for hundreds of yards. Those sewage pumps fail from corrosion, a real problem with the brine you are pumping

I heard in the news there were several earthquakes in southwest Texas that were similar to what had happened in Oklahoma. Was that in your area? I think the news said some injection wells were being shutdown because of it
So here is the thing. Brine is a byproduct of the oil process, and potentially, if you don't inject the water back into the well you could collapse the well, but if you don't take the water and let it evaporate you could loose the lithium in the brine... So what do you do????😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Just curious why that type of pressure switch is used in the oil industry vs an ultrasonic tank level gauge that is programmable and can give real time tank level using 4-20 mA discrete signal to your SCADA system along with on/off pump control. The type of level switch you are using looks very robust and simply mechanical for sure. Are you still using the light bulb method for tank level? We used to use light bulbs that were activated via the old phone lines to indicated elevated water tower levels. Simple and worked.
Scada will replace the light bulb. We actual tried the sonar sensors. long story short they didn't work because of the gas and vapors in the tanks. It would give false full readings.
Cows will walk through anything to save from having to go around.
False. There is a lot of things they won’t walkthrough. They even a gateless gate called cattle guards they won’t walk through
@@zakksragemost of the time. Believe it or don’t I’ve seen them tiptoe through cattle guards too.
@@zakksragewell most of the time anyway.
So will people 😂
Lol

Hahaha. Ill start calling them wifi polls lol

Must be some tame cattle lol
I had no idea cows were such jerks. Now I don't feel so bad for eating them.
If you're gonna do anything its worth doing all the way. Agreed
Hell yeah, another Zack life video
My dad always said cows only do two things wreck everything or lay down and die for no reason.
Zack cow are like toddlers , they get into everything 🤣 😂.
Try putting up a electric fence wire . It should keep them back some .😊
If you leave the handles on ball valves cows like to open them in the middle of the night so vacuum trucks have work the next day
Lolol yep.
Relays that maintain switch state without power are known as latching relays.
Yes.

It would be neet to have a product like a standard well switch for super low pressures. I feel like that could do what you want if they existed.
Love those tee shirts with the comical sayings. I can see a cow chewing up the red hose as well, probably in a upcoming video. Keep em rolling Zack... good stuff
I have seen ranchers connect 4 gates together in a square or rectangular around their pump jacks and tanks to keep the crows out!!!😊
Your T-shirt connection is making me envious !!! their all pretty cool ,,,,,,,,
I'm worried! I'm starting to understand what you're talking about. Thanks Zach!
Thank you Zach, please longer videos about injection well trouble shooting..
Love the commentary about wind mills to make them profitable 😂😂
That catch barrel and sump for the environmentalists is pretty slick. Good idea
But what are the cows going to do to that tasty red hose...?😂
Cattle favorite food is trailer light cable and plug. If not available spark plug wires on gas tractors good too. Looks like you got a yummy red hose treat there. My best weapon is a cheap solar electric fencer.
Like the shirt😂
Love the shirt Zach! 😂
Cows insist on causing problems
Hi Zach, finally caught one of your videos, Thanks, when's the next one?
fascinating stuff zach, thumbs up from uk 👍
Good afternoon Zach!
Yes! I love "Oil Field 101," and also "Barrels to Dollars!" Here in Cali I see the pumpjacks pumpin', and have always wondered.
Ive to to finish the barrels to dollars
I think the cows are looking for something to rub up against cause they’re itchy , and your injection well has got some obvious edges .
Thank you I enjoy your videos I enjoy your problem solving thinking and engineering

The cows are gonna destroy all of that trying to get to that bucket of nice drinking water you made for them. xD
If it is like the "drinking water" that comes from oil wells in Oklahoma, the cows will die!
... you gotta add pro-fess-ional video-operator to your re-su-may !! ... This is quite the set up, Zach ... thanks for putting this one on your channel !! Keep on pump'n that Texas Crude !!
Lol Thanks.
I’ve had cattle get tangled in a pump jack it was not pretty we call that well the buzzerd well now lol
Love this series
Don't blame the beef.
When you pulled that hog panel across the cab of your truck I knew all pumpers were cut of the same cloth.
Lol
looking forward to the Scada
That cattle might want to lick the salt.
Also put up a scratching post covered with fly repellent, see if they switch attention to that.
I can also gauge the time line by what your shirt says

I wonder if others see the irony of a oil man mentioning hot freakin HOT it is. Just thinking.
No one with 10% of a brain will.

How did you repair the casing leak? Have you ever seen JB weld pumped and displaced with methanol?
Ive not. I ran a liner in it.
Turd pump😂😂😂😂😂

When will now be then, soon ! 😊
They aren’t walking there to just walk they are using that stuff as a scratching post. Make some faux cattle guards an put around the tank
Nice!
Thanks, I enjoyed that video 😁
They're just trying to find some shade, note the shadow from the tank
Howdy Zach
Never been too crazy about those Murphy switches, seems like the needle/pins always get a bit corroded. Had better luck with Major head switches provided one flushes them out fairly regular. But....in the oilpatch nothing is trouble free.
Major is no more, but I agree Ive got mostly head switched and they are my favorite.
Nobody accused cows of being smart! Lol

How come you didn't cattle panel completely around the pump and motor also?
What if a calf gets into the pump pulley when it's on?
That microphone looks like a bark collar around your neck.
20:52 yeah, cover your drip bucket with plywood. lol!
Lol
Zach do you plan on doing a video on your SCADA system? id like to know more so i can implement on my production. thanks

We felt one of them. It was just noticeable.
How much psi is needed to inject the water in that well.
Its mostly gravity.
Love the shirt
When are we going to see the SCADA??
Should have several videos next week.
Awesome brother! Highly appreciated.
Is it possible that some brine is dripping somewhere that those cows are after?
At 13:14, the pump sounds like the African Queen. Can you build a torpedo? ha ha

Are the cows going to eat the red hose?
They seem to leave it alone.
Full of Ink for the T-Shirt printing press....!!!!
Hey bud, try taping that pvc primer and cement together. Makes life a little easier. That square D control panel is slicker than dog snot.

thought about a cheap switch using a float?
It's generally a bad idea to put a switch inside a tank. Lighting or a switch failure can ignite the gas.
Did I hear an A.v.E reference (CONTACT)!!!
cows dont just chew on grass.
try cat 2530 pump. great.
Lol. Giant rats
Hi Zach. Where are you located? We have a small project we'd like to visit with you about. Just need a little advice.

howd u get so smart bro?
Video too short
You lost me at keep my mind straight. Too many lone stars.
Lol. That’s not a telephone pole, it’s a “power” pole.
Its a Wifi poll.
How much is the cattle boss give you for grazing rights ? Maybe in should include damages , send them the invoice.
