Lol. MNR Rail Traffic Controllers do the job of the Train Dispatcher, Console Operator, Stationmaster and Block Operator of the Long Island Railroad. It’s not that crazy for the LIRR when you have all this support.
LIRR doesn't have trains funneling into single artery to get to midtown. Yeah they run a lot of trains but they don't deal with everything that the RTC deals with at MNR. I'm not an RTC however I am an MNR locomotive engineer. Although I could be a little rough with the RTCs, I could never do their job. I'd need alot of antacid medication to attempt too. Like Dan, I too came from amtrak though as an engineer
@@ghostengineerim sure this is an obvious question but as you just explained is it easier to be a locomotive engineer for MNR or a rail traffic controller because I passed test and they wanna give me interview in 3 days. Im hoping they start calling for engineer testing again soon. This year is done ive heard im waiting for the 2024 opening as I applied already
Lmao, they look miserable. Particularly the guy. He’s like “ -_- yeah, we keep trains running, blah blah”. Jokes aside, always amazed me knowing a couple of people sitting in a large room inside GCT are controlling all the tracks up to 76 miles away. Hats off to you folks.
The block operators would only control one block. We shut down the towers back in 2004 and all of those people came to GCT to be train dispatchers. The only block operators we have left are on the drawbridges and are block operators in name only at this point. I believe other RRs still have them working in the traditional sense. I hope that answers your question
How much do these guys earn? I have the same job in Ireland….work the same type of system…(track circuit block) and run a very tight and high occupancy network. We are paid around £46,000 per year. I’ve always loved Canada and would be interested if I was ever to move their if this is a job I could get into.
Over 50% of people in the Bronx and upper Manhattan don't pay their fare, they just get on the back door or pass the farebox with contempt -- they're shoplifting services the rest of us have to pay.
@@Futuristbillpicone Who cares about monthly fare. Pay your way or you're stealing services. They can afford smartphones and expensive sports clothes, they can afford the bus. The people do it because they can with impunity and not get fined. My great grandparents were poor sharecroppers and didn't steal because they didn't feel entitled.
@@Futuristbillpicone they can but have chosen not to pay since the pandemic. At this point they can even apply for half fare cards, get them and still dont want to pay the fare.
MTA should get rid off Group Station Manager MARCUS TELLIS. This guy is good for nothing. Now he make $142,000 dollars last 2021 tax year. Which is totally wast of taxpayers money.
Thankful for what you do every day.
Thank you for your service.
Thanks for what you do
You guys are awesome, this is so cool!
Awesome video, MTA.
If it’s that hard for MNR, just imagine how much crazier it is for LIRR

@John Hoehman now that's a name I recognize on the railroad

Nice!
I would love to do this , Im currently a Bus Operator for NYCT thinking about changing careers

I wanna work for MNR one day
Apply... they are always hiring
What is the difference between a rail traffic controller and a block operator?

I believe it's hourly rate
About 50$can per hour
I should specify that's a CN rate
Another word for tower operator in nycta
How do you become one?
If you can't figure out how to apply for the job you probably wouldn't make it through class.

I know these two people are Metro north railroad rail traffic controllers but why did they have to work in the dark, I don’t get that? 😀🤔😮
It's better for eye fatigue management -- air traffic controllers also do.
@@lohphat Ok. 😀
The lower the lights the happier we are lol We all have desk lamps but only a few people use them
Is there a HR generalist I can contact so I can schedule an i terview for a LIRR customer ambassador job I applied for 5 days ago??? I need a job😢
They should get back to you soon was offered a job had to turn it down for the time being.
I’d guess they control rail traffic
They work hard, too bad they've been underfunded by the government for decades.
Er, well hopefully you don't "make a decision on a whim." Perhaps she meant make a decision in a split second.
Fire all the dispatchers, they don’t let the connecting train wait. They should make them wait especially if the next train is 30 minutes away.
PLEASE DO NOT RAISE THE FARE.. PLEASE.
