Oh, my esteemed medical colleague, the first step in our betrayal of our patients was after WWII whem we doctors sold our souls to the INSURANCE COMPANIES who interposed themselves between us and our patients and the second step was when we sold out to the MANAGED CARE COMPANIES and allowed them to tell us how to manage care and the third step was when we signed up with
the PRE-PAID HEALTH CARE COMPANIES and allowed them
not only to make Billions by rationing care but also make us doctors look like the BAD GUYS in the middle and the fourth and final fatal step was when we allowed the philosophically bankrupt leftists to convince people that they have a RIGHT to health care, never mind no one can have a RIGHT to anything that must be provided by someone else. How did it all happen? Greed, simple greed of doctors, present company excepted, of course.

Thanks for commenting. It's clear there are a lot of contributors to how we got to where we are in the US healthcare system. While we can agree past physicians' relinquishing of their responsibility to lead has been absolutely fundamental to that, I think you've oversimplified it and overestimated the power those past physicians held. The question for us now, though, is do we want to keep adding to the discord and dysfunction, or would we rather endeavor to change things for the better? Here at The Science of Leadership, we are seeking to do the latter.

@ Well, having been one of those “past physicians” you referred to and having been a “lone voice crying in the wilderness” and trying to.organize my fellow “past physicians” to fight against the corporatization of medicine and the commodification of patients for the past 55 years, I can tell you did have that power but GREED did make cowards of them all and what did my hospital do to me but destroy my practice and leave me with nothing but $2300/ month Social “Security”’income. Ain’t complainin’ just explainin’ how I fought the SYSTEM and the SYSTEM won with the only satisfaction I have being I can shuffle off this mortal coil singing: “And now the end is near and so i face the final curtain. . .My friend, I'll say it clear, I’ll state my case, of which I'm certain. . .
I've lived a life that's fullt, I traveled each and every highway. . .And more, much more than this, I did it THE RIGHT WAY.”
      Bis Valhalla, my colleague.

The biggest ripoff... Dentists, then vetanarians, then the GP... who makes sure everyone else gets a bite out of your insurence... bloodtests, x rays, and then the surgeon and the anaethetist... then the hospital, and then the physio therapist and then the pharmacy...... That cabal will put you in the poorhouse.

Agree, it's become an extortionate industry.
