I quit my 06:00-20:00 this year, and I looooove how different each job is in landscaping.
Just got an EIN and our LLC fully registered! I’m ready to rock this 😎 My wife actually lands the leads and we go out and bid the work. It’s so much freaking fun! “New Leaf Landscapes” roaring in Davis County, Utah!!!
Your videos are very inspiring and loving, brother. Thanks a lot man!

My situation is different but also very much the same...Ive been in biz for 26 years and I downsized back in 2010 and have not advertised since 2006. Matter of fact my last advertisement was the Yellow Pages. Every season I worry if the work I have will sustain the entire season and then boom I then go and worry about all the work I have and if I have the time to get it all done. EVERY season I worry about the same thing and EVERY season works out the same way - I always have enough work and Ive been doing this long enough the work will the there. STOP WORRYING

So it really comes down to " Don't load the cart, the mule might go blind"...but...what works for me is...gangbusters from march to mid December. 7 days a week..till near burnout...but mid
Dec thru mid March.Relax, do things around the house i had to put off all year...spend time with my kids and wife and grandkids. We go to florida for three weeks, rent a 7 bedroom house with pool and hot tub..eat out a lot, 5/6 rounds of golf...Keith, its about knowing what you need to do to run your business, and knowing what you need to do for your sanity...But i could not have lived my life my way with out this wonderful landscaping business..You guys out there...pick your battles, fight them and then find a way to R&R..very important..sorry if i rambled a little off topic Keith!

Something I’ve learned to truly value over a decade employed by other people, company culture goes a long way. I’ve walked off from some employers hour 1. And I’ve definitely stayed at a company because of the “culture”
Now as a business owner, company culture is near top of my list. Make sure my guys feel valued(not just with $$) make sure my guys are equipped properly for the job, company dinners, attending local trade shows/seminars and options to get certifications(for the right people) and encourage them to grow/learn as much as they can.
Thank god I have resources like Keith and others in this space so I was able to make a few less mistakes. I screw up every day, but always try to learn from it.

    Yo Keith,
Just gotta say, to be able to run 2 Businesses, record everything, edit everything, then post. Is some Superman s*** for the time frame that you have A-day. But to do it well, sir......that is on the whole another level. Oh and wife still interested. You're a great influence in a lot of people's lives. I'm not one to fallow others as I am more of well, ..a teacher/ leader. I don't take shit from anyone. ( And my record shows it. ) when I meet someone, in a way You can tell i demand respect because of the respect I give. ( off topic lol ) but I've always helped everyone I could. I appreciate everything you do for this community. Keep it up. 💯

Kieth, Great advice...It's scary how true everything you said is and how much it correlates to other lines of work...It's so difficult to not play into the fear of failure, dwell on mistakes, and struggle not to forget the best part of entrepreneurship:; You make your own hours, and you are your own boss...I always reflect on the only thing I really retained from industrial psychology 101: Money doesn't motivate, Job satisfaction does...At least in construction and landscaping, you get to see real tangible results...It's so true...During the recent pandemic, what I whitnessed was: While other folks were either out of work, or teleworking if they were lucky; the guys in the lawn care, and service industries didn't miss a beat, and a lot improved their position by getting out there and getting after it! We're all our own worst critics...you have a great fan base, and are rocking it....It's great to see successful folks being honest and open! ~Jon@SBYD!

Started out 2 months ago - wanted to share how I realized that I'll never run out of clients. Walk around your neighborhood and look for lawns that are cut too short (below 3 inches) and are starting to yellow. Also look for white tips on grass with torn edges. Knock on their doors and recommend they raise their mower at least one setting + sharpen mower blade. They appreciate the free advice. Got a bunch of tree work/pruning topiary with this method.

You have to go with the flow, the climate that's changed, the economy in your area, the wants and needs of your customers at a certain given time. Especially 3 or 4 days after it rains. Your chasing the "stock market" as long as you get a piece of it.. because that's what you do. Don't get greedy and enjoy the little things in-between.

Real words there at the end. Attracting good employees while maintaining a profit margin that allows for continued growth is a difficult tight rope to walk, and most people often credit "luck" to finding those key employees that empowered the owner to trust and delegate responsibility to their employees while they focused on the top macro parts of the business.

Can I be honest for second I absolutely love clicking on your videos the encouragement and bare truth content is amazing and generally lifts my spirits until you 180 turn it into all about how master marketing this and sell blah blah that well maybe I’m fortunate but I started my lawn care this year and have grown immediately with one simple step I do my best and it’s recognized word of mouth took me from zero to 26 repeat business in less than 2 months ; I don’t think you put yourself in the clients position enough nobody likes being sold on anything the trick is to make them feel they sold you. Hard to explain but I keep my grass cut low so I can spot snakes aka salesman from a mile away love the bare bones truth but a good service sells itself people desire the best it’s natural

Dude I died at the Impersonation Of Joe's Lawn care at the end. This is why I shoot for the most money I can make. I started 3 years ago and thought $60 buck and hour would do it but fuck it man, charge as much as you possibly can. Keith will prolly give me a little heart for my comment but you guys best be listening to what I'm saying. Charge as much as you can. Always shoot for >$100 an hour because honestly, $100 an hour isn't even worth it. I barely make the middle class and still can't upgrade my life and out pace the bills. I'm talking a hundred bucks an hour for maintenance and clean up btw. Keith thanks for the Impersonation lol

Omg man, thanks. I needed this. We got bought our second work vechicle for my partner. Right away he was worried about not having the money for it. I know that we will be fine because I'm the one controlling all the marketing and getting the leads. The work will always come. It's more about keeping the positive mindset and remembering that we create our own reality just as our thoughts change the molecular level in water and snowflakes. We are 90% water and "as above so below" "the micro is a mirror to the macro" Everything will be fine!!

I’ve had jobs all season so far, I’m booked now until mid July. I am worried the “faucet” will shut off in July and I won’t be busy until September or something. I just have to trust the process!

Zachary D The only way the faucet turns off is if you turn it off. Keep your word to your customers and you’ll always be busy.

maybe one of your best videos the analogy the waterfall being turned off and on at full blast given the season is so genius. Come one come all work at his top of the line company and then the reality is weedwacking all day in the boiling heat. People would rather work under the table and collect unemployment for a shadetree company that recycles its employees each year.
